Achan/Joshua

When Judge's Seat was first revealed I made the suggestion that you might be able to get Joshua down to 1/9 if you were able to use Achan's SA twice.  I thought I'd get an official ruling on this.

Achan
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Pale Green • Ability: 5 / 6 • Class: None • Special Ability: Joshua's strength (*/) is reduced by 5 while Achan remains in play. • Identifiers: OT Male Human, Fought Earthly Battle • Verse: Joshua 7:18
Final ANB errata: Return player to game.

I would say no because while in play means its ongoing. it wouldn't reactivate.

What if both you and your opponent had an Achan in play with their ability active?
If you are reading this signature, thank a physicist.

Good luck with that, outside of draft - where you won't see a Joshua.  :D
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

why wouldn't it reactivate? Each time Achan entered battle, his ability should activate and thus decreas Joshua by 5 more points.

The reasoning behind this is the wording. For example Death and Hades specifies to decrease the opponent's hand to 7 (or 9), but Achan simply says decrease by 5, much like that of a poison, disease, or other decrease ability cards like Job's Three Friends (whose ability activates every battle, if I'm not mistaken.)

I was going to say you're wrong but on further thought, I think you could be right.  Job's Three Friends does have similar wording; instead the "in play" condition is put on their hero.  I do think these cards would have to be ruled the same way.  Job's Three Friends definitely can activate multiple times but the question is - can it target the same hero multiple times?

The difference is the wording. While achan remains in play means the ability continues outside of battle for the ec. While the hero remains in play seems to not be an ongoing ability on job's three friends parts but on the heroes part. Like (as you said) a poison depends on the hero being in play, not the enhancement.
