Title: abilities in battle
Post by: sepjazzwarrior on May 23, 2017, 08:14:44 AM
say my opponent uses confusion.  I then play a card that says negate all abilities in battle.  is confusion's ability still in battle even though the card isn't?

no, because it is no longer in battle by the time you play it.

so if you CM a hero in battle, doesn't its ability stay in battle?  or is it different because confusions ability causes it to leave battle?

The card that's trying to negate all abilities in battle, the cards with the abilities you're trying to target must still be in battle in order for the negating card to work. Since Confusion has banished itself and is no longer in battle it is no longer a valid target. However, if a card like Gam's Speech or even Sign of the Rainbow (negate and discard the last evil enh played this battle) is played that would undo Confusion.

so are you saying if a card is no longer in battle, it's ability is no longer in battle?  if you if you CM a hero or AotL a EC, does their ability leave battle?

Negative. If you CM Captain of the Host then his ability is residual and remains in effect throughout the battle until his ability is negated. What I'm saying is if you play a card like Begging for Grain which says "negate all enhs currently IN PLAY" (emphasis added) then it does not undo Confusion because Confusion is no longer IN PLAY to be targeted for the negate.

If you give a specific example of which card(s) you are referring to that negates cards it might be better way to understand what I'm saying.

no I understand what you are saying.  what I'm asking is does confusions ability remain in battle even though the card does not.  I was using playing CM on a hero to show how other abilities stay in battle even though the card does not.  like if you were to band in the warriors captain after confusion has been played, would he negate it (he negates all abilities except banding)

No, he negates only the ones in play.

so why does confusions ability leave play?  when other cards leave play because of a special ability, but their ability is not negated, their ability stays in play, so shouldn't confusions?

Because of the difference between an ongoing and an instant ability. An ongoing ability usually lasts until the end of the phase even if the card that caused it is removed from play. An instant ability happens instantly and then if the card leaves play the ability isn't doing anything anymore since it already happened so it "leaves" with the card.
