Question 1:
I attack having the fewest Souls and play Ambush the City. During my new RA, I play Grapes of Wrath. Ambush says "Once new RA is completed, the original battle resumes as a battle challenge." So which happens: A. I get to attack with a third Hero, and then once that battle is finished, the first one comes back, B. The first battle comes back as a RA, or C. The first battle comes back as a Battle Challenge, and after that is finished I get to make an RA?
Question 2:
If I play Grapes during a side-battle, is there a "current rescuer?"
Question 3:
If I play Grapes against a Hero that is Protected from Shuffle, what happens? Does the current battle still finish, and if so, does the rescuer get to make another RA afterward?
-
1. I believe what would happen, is in your 2nd rescue attempt due to Ambush the City, everything would be shuffled and you make a new 2nd RA (or 3rd RA). Then after that resolves you go to your now b/c and resolve that.
2. Yes there is.
3. You wouldn't wanna do that! :P Everything but the hero would be shuffled and it would seem the hero would automatically rescue a LS. The question is could he rescue with a new hero and band it in with the shuffle protected hero and/or could you block again? That is a difficult question and a good. I am interested to see what others say.

1: I would say that you begin a new Grapes battle before Ambush, since Grapes inserted its ability before Ambush the City's condition triggers. I think this would be consistent with the order of Michael+Angel's Sword vs. an EC with Horses.
2: No. The main battle is "suspended" so no rescuing is happening when it is played. (The "suspended" wording comes from the rulebook, I think sk found it in a different discussion).
3: I don't think there are any heroes that are currently protected from shuffle, and now that you brought this up, I doubt there ever will be. If there were however, I would think the rescuer would have the choice of withdrawing the current hero(es) and starting a new battle (if he had the fewest redeemed) or keeping the current hero(es) in battle and being unopposed.

I believe the current battle would finish with the Hero getting a LS (unless the defender played a dominant/used an art, etc). If the current rescuer still does not have the most Lost Souls, Grapes says he may begin a new "battle," not rescue attempt, therefore if he has already rescued a LS this turn, the "battle" would be a battle challenge.

What is the result of playing Grapes then in your opinion in this situation?

You play Ambush the City, set aside that battle. You make a new rescue attempt. Someone plays Grapes, and the current rescuer has the fewest souls, so the ability to start a new battle is inserted before AtC triggers. You make a new RA, and that resolves. Then the AtC finishes its BC.
I am certainly not 100% on this, but given the fact that 2kH can insert its ability on a CBN Angel's Sword, I'd say that Grapes can insert its ability here.

One out of three working the way I want it isn't bad. This is so my new favorite card.

Out of curiosity, did you have a combo where a hero can't be shuffled by a good dominant? That would be intriguing. Since I assume that's the one you were hoping to work.

Oh ok, well thats the same thing I said just worded in such a way that I wasn't sure. :)

I have a question (and please inform me if this has already been asked as I only grazed over this thread): What if I RA with fewer lost souls than my opponent and use AtC, then win the replacement RA, and then play Grapes of Wrath during the old battle which had become a BC? Do I get to make a third battle, and if so, would it be a RA?
-
You can only make one rescue attempt per turn. That is in the Rulebook. Your battle phase only includes one rescue attempt. You cannot go backwards in the order of your turn.

Grapes specifies that the current rescuer can start a new battle. You are not a rescuer during a battle challenge.

That's not true. You can make multiple rescue attempts during your turn using cards like Grapes, The Long Day, and Ambush the City. It's just that none of these allow you to have completed a successful rescue attempt before the new RA starts, so you can't have more than one successful rescue attempt in a turn.

That was what I was trying to say.

Hey,
I agree with ProfessorAlstad's answers and explanations for the first two questions.
On the third, I believe ProfessorAlstad is right in that it is not currently possible to protect a hero in battle from a shuffle ability on a good card, which makes the question somewhat moot. But if there was a hero that was protected from shuffle, you'd do all the shuffling, the hero would remain in battle; the battle that hero is in would be suspended while the new battle from Grapes of Wrath happens. After the new battle from Grapes of Wrath happens the hero battle would resume. I think the current rules would allow for two redeemed souls to be won by battles in the same turn if this scenario were to happen. I also imagine if a hero ever exists that is protected from shuffle we would tweak the rules so that you couldn't rescue two redeemed souls in one turn through battles.
