Title: 2-Line in Banks of the Nile
Post by: BubbleBoy on November 08, 2008, 11:25:02 AM
If a hero rescues only half the 2-Line from BotN, does it become Pharaoh's Court or would you have to rescue the second half as well?

Lost Souls requires two rescues to be Redeemed.  In order to have two rescues, you have to have one rescue first.  It's the same logic that shows that a rescue with Son of God only counts for one of two, and that Falling Away doesn't count on a once-rescued Lost Souls because it is still Lost and not Redeemed.

So rescuing the first half of Lost Souls should count as a rescue of a Lost Soul that was in that Site, and trigger the flip of Banks.

what about the 3-liner lost soul? it specifically says it must be rescued twice to count, which leads me to believe that anything before that actual second rescue would not apply.

when you 'rescue' 1/2 the lost souls card, your score doesnt jump up by one, because your rescue will not be counted until you rescue the other half. at that time, your score jumps up from 0 to 2...not 0 to 1 to 2.

Yeah, I was kind of looking at that wording when I thought of this.

Right, because your score is determined by the number of Redeemed Souls in your Land of Redemption.  You have to make two rescues before you can count it as Redeemed.  But you can't make two rescues if you can't make one rescue first.  Normally, 1 rescue = 1 Redeemed Soul.  For that card, 2 rescues = 2 Redeemed Souls

Special Ability: This card enters play as Banks of the Nile. If a Hero rescues a Lost Soul from this Site, it becomes Pharaoh's Court.
Now that I look at it, this makes me think that the action of the lost soul coming out of the site is what is necessary for the...transformation.

Regardless of whether or not the lost soul counts towards your score, you still rescued it. Banks of the Nile should switch in this case.

Altar of Ahaz has been ruled to stay alive if half of Lost Souls is rescued, at least partially because it says "from", like this site does.

You're correct that there was an official ruling (by Bryon and Schaef) about rescuing half of a Lost Souls and Altar of Ahaz. (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=4772.0)

The ruling supports the conversion of BotN/PC on a "half" rescued Lost Souls for the same reason the Altar would be discarded on a "half" rescued Lost Souls.

Well, at least I had it completely wrong.

That doesn't happen very often.  We should probably mark this day on the calendar.  ;)
