Okay, I'd first like to thank those board members that have sponsored some of the current RTS tournaments and gameplay. This proposed league is not intended to step on anyone's toes. Rather, it is to provide those avid RTS players another outlet for their voracious game playing, with a bit of a twist, but in the end awards prizes!
It is October 1 so no time like the present to start. This is a league that will run with two halves. Since this is new, we'll see how the first half of the season goes to determine if we want to go a second half. The first half will run from 10/1/2008 to 1/6/2009 (15 weeks). If we do a second half, it will be from 1/14/2009 to 4/28/2009. Playoffs will possibly follow afterward.
So I guess the first question is, "What is Type NW?" It is both a deck-building and category version we started here in the NW. Here are the details:
Type NW deck-building
- Deck size is always 70 cards
- No dominants are allowed
- Type 1 deck-building rules apply for everything else
Type NW gameplay
- Games are allotted one hour; when one hour is reached, complete the current full turn
- Name-on-name bonus and Experience credit are both used
For league play, we will keep track of wins, losses and ties along with number of lost souls that are saved by both opponents.
- Wins = 4 points
- Ties = 2 points
- Losses = 1 point
- Total redeemed lost souls will be accumulated for all players during the season
- A player may play another player twice in a week maximum to count towards league results
- There is no limit to the number of different players you play as long as they are signed up for the league
- Please PM or email all game results to me
As you can see by the point system, players are encouraged to actually play. A player with 5 losses will rank higher than a player with a win if those are the only games played. Since games are a full hour, there's a good chance there will be some 1-0 game scores and maybe some like 10-7. Who knows? :o
Prizes will be determined at a later date. I will let everyone know what they are.

I'm in Scott. It is sad that we can't play Type NW partners ;) maybe once the new simulator comes out it will be set up for multi-player. :prayer:

My plan is Redemptin cash, but I'd better clear it with Rob first. At my first local everyone cashed in their Redemption cash for tins and boosters that I had in stock. I'm guessing that's how it will be the whole year so I'll have extra Redemption cash.

I'm in, itll take me a quick offense switch and a quick dom removal on my decks. Yay for loving 70 decks. My only issue with this format, any newer players joining will have serious issues due to it not being to 5 but till time (assuming they play SUPER slow). Penalizing them (Who are at fault) and who they are playing (who have NO control over it)

When playing, I assume pausing is acceptable if someone needs to break from the game? since it is a timed deal...

Due to the dynamics of playing on RTS, pauses can be set on timers. As for disconnects/dropped connections/etc., it's never happened to me so I'll handle them one-by-one. If two players are involved in a "dropped" game, PM me the details.

I've been informing anyone I can though, asking anyone if they even have a Type NW deck... So believe me, I'm probably your biggest supporter thus far. ;)

777Godspeed and I had a fun initial NW game. I won 3-2 but only because I only drew 3 lost souls the whole time. His Women as Snares captured almost all of my demon defense. Because I am the founder, president, CEO, and King of the "demons can't be redeemed" foundation, I didn't have any more access to lost souls after the hour time limit was up. :D
Good game. We couldn't get the rematch in last night but maybe today.

RR and I had the start of a good game going but I wasn't paying attention to the time. So we didn't get an official game in. He would have won. I made some boneheaded moves early on. But it was refreshing not having doms right after getting whooped again by Gabe in T1. :rollin:

STAMP and I played another game and after an hour it was a 5-5 tie. We were quite evenly matched in offense and defense. We both agreed that Type NW will cause alot of outside the box thinking. Eliminating the use of DoMs and all decks being 70 cards changes some of the meta-game, at least for me. The current difficulty I am having is to not think T1 and to think of other nefarious combos, LS usage (Aunt B is not needed), territory management, Forts and Arts usage and management. Beings that there seems to be more time for territory set-up and stuff and all decks are the same size, some of the seemingly impossible combos look to be a little more plausible. These are just my thoughts and I would encourage everyone to give Type NW a try for kicks and giggles.

I agree it was a good game and we both learned some more about NW strategy. My defense needs to be revamped. If not for the fact that I did not draw a lot of lost souls, Mike would probably have won. I made a tactical error early on during a block. Even though I wasn't so worried about losing that lost soul, the block impacted how I could play defense the rest of the way. I love type NW! I love the in game strategy and momentum changes.
I hope others decide to join the league and start playing some games!

You would think by now that RR's opponents would always put in Miriam and Journey to Egypt. :D
I also won a game against 777Godspeed in which he really didn't get to use his defense. We finished 11-6 and no opportunities for me to create any LS since he decked out. We both learned of some more cards that are useful in Type NW.

The score says alot though. Even with the minimal amount of defense drawn, we did not have a runaway scoringfestorama. It was a close game and a well fought game.

I realize this is what many online players have gotten used to with Jacob's Ladder and SS's Substitute Online Tournament, but I want to avoid coming up with any special rules for this in this league.
If someone refuses a challenge, I would suggest just challenge another player.

I lost 2-1 to Jonathan. I think I'm going to switch offenses since my main strategy hasn't worked yet... the games I won were just because I have a couple of battle winners to compliment the combo I try to do.

Caleb and I played a bruiser game. He WoS my defense, but 2 turns later had to play DoU, so I got them back.....whew. It was a tough game, as NW is changing the regular thought pattern of T1 style play. Deck building can be approached differently and some of the archetypes are seemingly more viable. The paradigm is apparently shifting. You gotta think outside the box in NW.....*maniacal laughter is heard echoing deep from the underground deckbuilding lair*

Lol this wasn't my normal deck though. This was heroless, it was an epic game. >.> He sniped with a deck d/c card (irony) saul/paul built on the rock burning incense and jordan inturupted. Improv conversions ftw. The true spirit of heroless, using any ec (even king elah) to win a game. Let alone 2 king elahs (I got his with queen T.)

grueling doesn't do it justice though. it was a brutally grueling slugfest. 2 powerhouse decks that were evenly matched quite nicely. I was a bit disappointed as my offense didn't really come together like it normally does, but not due to draw, it just didn't develop if you get what I mean.
Great game though.

It was a game that picked off my defense, did a little deck discarding and held me to 1 successful RA. By the time RR started RAing my defense was depleted. Good game, fun game and some ninja sneakiness to boot.

Ok, here goes the double post.
RR and I played another bruising, brawling NW game. Back and Forth, Forth and Back we went. What was the final outcome? A whooping 0-0 tie. Yes. I held RR to a scoreless game. He says it was the first non-win game for the deck, so I am honored to be the non-win winner. o_O :scratch: Anyway, it was a great game. I was able to get rid of his access site and lock him out while he captured and removed my offense and discarded my defense.

Type NW appears to be a growing niche in the game so I am officially announcing that a second half will start Wednesday, January 14th. I will finalize plans for playoffs and prizes and post at the top of the thread in the next few days. In the meantime, get those NW decks ready for the second half. I anticipate a growth in the number of games played!
