Title: Online tournament
Post by: New Raven BR on November 03, 2008, 05:54:21 PM
ok i'm going mad from all the tournaments with prizes and i think it's about time i bring Tsa's ladder to the cactus site.
there WILL NOT be prizes and how it'll work is this tournament will be for fun and perfecting skill and those who join will have their names written on peices of paper and randomly picked and the 2 names i pick they'll play

like say 6 people are playing

put in numbers 1-6 like putting in usernames

i pull out a 3 and then a 1 that means 3 will face 1
next i pull out 2 and then 4: 2 faces 4
whch means the final 2 ae 5 and 6 who'll face each other.
now that is for an even number amount of people, for odd numbered, the last person's username remaining will receive a Bye for the next week.
there'll be 12 rounds a season: like spring is march-may summer is june-august, fall september-november and winter is you get the idea(december-febuary)

scoring:

10 points per ls rescued *cept 6 and 7 souls rescued*
the loser receives 5 point bonus for trying *cause i'm generous  ;)*

example
7,6, and 5 ls win: 50
4:40
3:30
2:20
1:10

oh and any player can play by aim or rts or any other instant messagers

if anyone has a tough time understanding the tournament scoring system or challenging system please pm me and ask what your having trouble understanding and i'll pm back

didn't i just say "there WILL NOT be prizes"?
prizes are the reason why i unjoined the tournament cause they'll distract me of what the game's meant to bring: Fun and Fellowship and prizes are gonna lead me away from Fun and Fellowship.
and therefore there will not be prizes and i won't allow prizes in this tournament cause this tournament is suppose to be for fun like soul seeker's was

Quote

This rule is horrible It means I only get 5 extra points if my opp gets 4 ls. Try
5 points for winning.
1 point for losing
1 point per ls won.
So winning nets you 10 points, but losing with 4 gives you 5.

Also...besides you Andy, who would want to join this when we have a perfectly fine ladder WITH prizes? Other people don't have your issue with trying.
So I give this thread my stamp...

Of FAIL. But you will have the chance to spin the wheel later on in the show for no prizes!

Yes it does. It also says to approach those who offended you in private. Please don't spout the bible off at me when you aren't following it. I am telling you the truth Andy, You have tried to host a prizeless tournament  five or six times against a properly thought out, prized and well done tournament and you've had 4-5 members at max. You also tend to forget your tournament and don't update rankings etc. I am speaking from experience of your tournaments. I am speaking to you as a friend to try out the other tournament at least for a while. If you don't like it after 2 weeks (6 games) you can quit but don't be rude to soul seeker, gabe, prof, and the rest by sticking your tounge out at them with a half thought out tournament trying to steal people from their work because YOU don't wanna play for prizes.
Title: Re: Online tournament

lets just donate prizes and he'll yell "I QUIT, THIS IS DUMB"
Title: Re: Online tournament
Post by: New Raven BR on November 03, 2008, 06:49:02 PM
i'm not trying to be rude to anybody.
soul seeker had a prizeless tourney and it went well and you say your a friend but your not.
you just made me feel a WHOLE LOT WORSE rather then better.
it's not gabe's prizes it's just the temptation of the prizes to put my mind away from what's important about the game which is a good reason why for me to unjoin and i REALLY don't appritiate people like you and caleb coming up to me and killing my thread when all i'm trying to do is have fun and get better.

no thanks caleb i don't need your prizes.
this tournament is intended for players to play, improve and have fun

Course I'm not andy, I mean who was there when your gf left you....I was but taking my time to help you, try to cheer you up, etc is totally not being a good friend.

Friends aren't there to make you feel happy all the time. They are there to help you and be truthful with you. Would you want me to LIE to you and say "WHAT A GREAT IDEA!". If you would prefer that I can lie to you.

The point is Andy, whether you mean to or not going "I am quitting to make another tournament" is rude.

Andy regardless you need to be able to deal with prizes being on the line or you will never be able to win nationals. Which you have told me TIME AND TIME AGAIN you want to win.

I am trying not to flame. Andy, you are supposed to be trying to win, you just have to learn to have fun while trying to win. If you never try, you will never progress. Remember how horrible you were when we first met, and now your decks are solid decks because you tried... and failed alot.

RR is being a WONDERFULL friend RIGHT NOW. You feel sucky, right? And think that you are no good? And RR is trying to help you with your decks(although, RR, what's with the color guard ls in that one deck and no single color site? ;)) because he believes, even when you don't, that you can be a great player. That's what a good friend is. Someone who believes in you. And anyways, please read my post in the SOT about playing with 100+ decks and stuff. Are there prizes? yes. Am I trying to win them? not really.

I will end with this quote from batman. "why do we fall, master Bruce? So that we can learn how to pick ourselves up."

Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.  Proverbs 27:6

Like, RR, I've been trying to help you improve lately Andy, but you have to embrace an attitude that's teachable.
Title: Re: Online tournament
Post by: Alex_Olijar on November 03, 2008, 10:38:48 PM
I would like to start this post by saying I do not like Raven as much as most people, and I think alot of negative things about him. I recognize this is an unchristian attitude and I am trying to be more christian in my attitude towards him and similar people in my real life.

Now, as for this tournament. While I recognize Andy is just trying to create a place he can learn to play the game better, he is doing this from a selfish perspective. From what I can gather from his attitude, he does not want to play in the tournament if it has prizes because he thinks he does not have a chance to win. Basically, he seems to think that because he is not as good as other people, everyone else shouold cater to his skill level, or create an environment that allows him to succeed.

Meanwhile, the others (RR mainly) just want to have a nice fun game, in the context of a tournament. They do not care about prizes, and in fact, the prizes are only there because of the overwhelming genorosity of an excellent player and person, Gabe. They were not intended for the tournament; someone just went over the top and said, hey, I want to be nice and support redemption and this tournament, and so I'm going to give out prizes. Everyone said, thanks, Gabe, you rock, except Andy. Why? I refer to paragraph 1; he does not think he can win, so he thinks noone should win.

While he should never have this attitude, the blame is not entirely his. Players like Caleb constantly harass him and thrawt his attempts at fun with stuff like you see in this thread. They refuse to be nice to him and just egg on his attempts to do anything. I am among this group, and we are in fact partially to blame.

Moral of the post:

Andy, please stop being ridiculous. You can have fun within the context of a prize structure. See a real redemption tournament.

RR, I appreciate your attempts to help, and your friendship to Andy.

Caleb, myself, etx, we need to stop being so harsh and critical and mean to Andy.

i'm not being selfish.
i feel i should host a tournament so not only i can get better but players like mehman and such can too and i don't think none should win.
the reason i quit the tourney is cause the prizes will blind me to what's really important and make me only care about winning and for the sake of my opponents and myself i quit the tourney and had a very good reason to.

IMO, your never going to learn how to deal with that "win at all costs" attitude if you never try to deal with it. If you think your starting to get too much into it, just take a break for a couple days/weeks, then try again. Running doesn't help.

And, by the way, in the future, you might not want to call out Mehman or anyone as "bad players" which I think is what you did there. You think they appreciate that?

i'm not calling mehman a bad player.
your just putting words in my mouth.
i was thinking about the newer players improving their skills as well as my own cause i think all of us as pretty advanced players should help out players such as mehman.

and about your comment of not liking me i'm gonna try as hard as i can so everyone will more then dislike me (sarcasm) :P

lol I am a bad player I make many mistakes (just ask raven) but I'm willing to learn ANY way I can tourny, fun game, fun tournys and anything that comes with the tourny is only a well a "fun+" sign if you would, but raven really you need to get over it I mean if you keep quitting tournys and making your own over prizes....it's just little dumb...and not to point some thing out that everyone can see YOU know that you would go crazy over winning AND I'm coming out with it I was just the same! But you see your self doing it then you can stop yourself! ANYTHING CAN BE DONE WITH GOD AND SOME WILL POWER!

and this is not a flame or me yelling at you I'm trying to help you! take this as you like but I'm not trying to hurt you

did I say that ever? I don't remeber saying it. I said I did that same thing! but it was the other way around! my bro didn't play because I hated to lose HAHA! you don't want to play because not only you don't have fun and want to win but you don't want everyone to not like you because you beat yourself up over it and get mad!

and I'm very bad...anyone could beat me at this point...(doesn't mean I'm not going to try my best to win)
Title: Re: Online tournament

no, the only reason why i quit the tournament was to avoid becoming blind and not seeing what was important: having fun
and so i was going to host my own online tournament to play in a  tournament and still avoid the blindness

How do you know if you haven't tested it?

Quote

That sounds more like a problem you should try to work on, rather then just avoid. Simply tell yourself that the prizes are NOT the main goal. Make fun and fellowship your main goal, because you yourself have said thats what you want in a game, so MAKE your games be about that. I know just about every other player has this attitude, I know you can adopt it as well if you just TRY.

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT tell yourself you cannot do better. All that does is limit you, and make it so you CAN'T do it.

I don't get why people are so hard on themselves. Give yourself a chance for cryin out loud! How can someone succeed if they constantly tell themselves they suck? They won't, and thats EXACTLY what you are doing. You are limiting yourself.

Title: Re: Online tournament
Post by: TheKarazyvicePresidentRR on November 04, 2008, 12:29:48 PM
how?
How did you become better? You put yourself up against people who you knew had you outgunned and you still tried to beat them. You tested what you could and couldn't do and even though you lost you did (Through very much discussion) continue and try again. If you don't try to deal with prizes then you never will be able to. You have to learn to deal with something to be victorious over it. Running just hurts you and those around you.

You want to win nationals right?  The prizes there are much more than 1 UR card.  You need to learn to have fun regardless of prizes or not. Yes I am sure everyone else in the tournament will be making sure to play their 3 games per week cuz they would like a shot at the prizes but they are playing for fun despite the chance of winning.
Title: Re: Online tournament

Hey Raven, I think you should realize one thing:
"Tournaments" always = Competition whether it involves prizes or not.
You will either enjoy (have fun) in competition or you won't (again, regardless of prizes.)
If you want fun only (no competition), then just keep an eye out on Hamachi and request games with people who you know will play you for fun.
If you still want to host a tournament, fine, but you must know that you are inviting an element of competition with it (at minimum the prize is being #1).  Competition if not kept in check within one's life can make any game not "fun".

If you learned from your loss? Yes. Just know in a tournament you can't do that.
