Title: Thinktank: Nats 2018 Online Olympics?
Post by: MrMiYoda on June 14, 2018, 01:53:28 AM
Please read below the text of the newsletter sent to message boards members today. Let us see how we can make it bear fruit for those who cannot make it to Nats 2018. We specially dedicate this thread to Reth, Mark U., and all Redemption brethren around the world!

Perhaps inspire Cactus to give out this promo to each online Champion for the events?

Thinktank, all!

Blessings All!

We are now under 50 days before Nats 2018!

We encourage one and all to keep teaching the game relentlessly to new players. One new learner per week per message boards member and beyond is enough to bless Redemption and Nats 2018 with lots of 'players', be they able to attend or not.

NOW For those who will not be able to make it to attend Nats 2018, we wish to excite ya'll as well!

If some of you can organize simultaneous unofficial tournaments during all three gaming days (02-04 August) using the online portals (Lackey and Tabletop Simulator), we will make sure to provide prizes to the top three winners for each category played (we will ask for prize donations from retailers, hosts, etc, and Cactus itself). We can call it the Nats 2018 Online Olympics! Only one organized tournament per online playable category available can be played.

Here are the two gaming portals to use:
http://www.cactusforums.com/rtsonline-play/ (http://www.cactusforums.com/rtsonline-play/)

Threads must be set up just like we did ROOT to list category players, updates, and category results. Use the forum http://www.cactusforums.com/redemption-unofficial-tournaments/ (http://www.cactusforums.com/redemption-unofficial-tournaments/) to post your ideas, category plans, game results, etc.

We also ask the tech savvy to make sure that the online events are seen on live streaming using available technology such as the one below:
https://www.younow.com/TXredemption (https://www.younow.com/TXredemption)

Registered Nats players (attendees) are exempt from participating in the online olympics!

Let Nats 2018 be truly unforgettable three blessed exciting gaming days for all players attending Nats as well as those who will not able to travel!

God is good!

In Him,
ReyZen

Is there internet connectivity at the Nats location?  Would the judges at Nationals be willing to also adjudicate online issues or would tournament organizers also need to find judges?

Not to ruin the post or anything, but Mark moved to Arkansas. ;)

Matt, there is wireless Internet access at Nats.

I think we prefer the Online organizers to provide dedicated judging as we might all be busy gaming or judging while the online games are on. However, I am sure we can all pitch in answering queries that may require consensus.

I am excited to see how technology will be extensively used in August to have an amazing experience of 3 days of simultaneous onsite and online gaming with lots of live streaming both ways. I can already imagine Redemption's evolution into space age gaming portals in a few more years....hologramic proportions?

@JD...the day you are dreaming of where lots of app-based card gaming abound, is coming sooner than we can all imagine!

I  would be one of the first to join the Tournament since I want to come to Nats but can't.
Online would be could but I am convinced I should go be part of a youth camp here in Germany.
It will goes from 07-31 till 08-10 so I won't be able to join :/
Maybe we could still have a bigger international online tournament with some cool prizes later on in the year?
Blessings :)

Until the actual gameplay table is created in Tabletop Simulator with functionality for logging player actions I'd recommend using Lackey for an online tournament that involves prizes. (and hopefully, there will be a sale for TTS coming soon where the price could get down to $6.50, there was a sale like this a month or two ago)

I would be willing to play since I can't go to Nats either! I would be able to play a category after 5pm each day.....most likely around 6:30 or 7pm.

As mentioned in the OP, there must be volunteer organizers from the non-Nats prospective participants. I'm not sure if this possible project will materialize as no organizers have stepped up yet. We will see if someone or a couple will still make it happen. All Nats absentees will truly be missed. God bless all!

Maybe I can try to organize this and see if we can get some participants. I read the original post but I'm a little confused. Would we have multiple categories each day like Nats or one category per day? I would think one since people have to work.

How would booster work?  I would be interested in T1 2-player as long as I could play outside of work (anytime after 6:30pm EST to whenever).
