Title: Redemption Card Visualizer (beta)
Post by: CactusRob on February 20, 2012, 09:23:56 AM
Mike Wolfe has built a nifty program on his Redemption Live site
http://www.redemptionlive.com (http://www.redemptionlive.com)

It is a great way to see cards with information.  Moreover, the cards can be sorted in a variety of ways.  THANK YOU MIKE!

This is a beta version and there are some conflicts with some web browsers including Chrome.  If after installing the program you get a blank load then refresh once or twice and all usually works fine.  Enjoy.

Wow, this is really neat! Filtering by special abilities, brigades, identifiers, all that stuff - really sweet! The load time is quite a bit, but it's really slick and high-quality. I can see using this for deck building or finding strange cases for ruling questions. :)

For me, it doesn't work on Chrome, but it does on Firefox.

Wow! This replaces the REG for most of my needs. One thing I am anxious for is an "add to deck" button. :)

This is a GREAT addition to the community, and I think people will really get a lot of good use out of this.  The fact that it also gets us 1 step closer to Redemption Live is gravy :)

Can I just say that the shot of every card in the whole system (game, perhaps?) when you first load up the Visualizer is AWESOME!

I think I'll be using that quite a bit to find cards that could use a reprint. :D

Also, the system as a whole is wonderful. Being able to sort by special ability makes it cake to plan ability-based themes for decks.

EDIT: Played around with it more, I LOVE THIS. It's smooth, it's visually appealing (when you choose a sort, the cards that no longer fit fly off-screen and the remaining ones re-order themselves), and it makes my life so much easier. :D

Mike has worked hard on this for quite some time.  I've been playing with it for months when Mike brings his laptop to Redemption tournaments.  Mike is really a gifted computer guy, and I'm thankful he has used that gift for the benefit of the entire Redemption community.

As I mentioned to the beta team, I'm a visual guy so this is my cup of tea.  While the spreadsheets that others in the Redemption community have created have been invaluable at times, I've been using the Visualizer for my online Bible study times on Biblegateway.com.

Yes, it's great for the game, too, LOL!  :)

Just a couple of tips for using the Visualizer:

1. If you don't want to see all of the many variants of some cards, check the "Primary Card" filter checkbox under "Variant Type" along with your other filters. This shows only the one most common variant for each card.

2. Don't forget to use the "Graph View". It can be very helpful especially when you sort by Testament, Brigades, Effects, Strength or Toughness.

3. If you clicked on a specific card to focus in on it, click it again to zoom back out to see all cards matching your current criteria in the Card View Area.

4. You can sort the cards by Card Set Number which is the number within the set used in Thesaurus and Disciples (at the bottom of the card) and in Rock of Ages 2 and Faith of our Fathers 2 to order the cards by tin and by card within each tin. It's often the most normal order to think about the cards when looking at the whole set.

Enjoy!

Did you try restarting your browser? Once you install the Silverlight update, it won't be active til you close out your browser completely and then open it again.

I'm supposed to see images of the cards right?

All I see is a grey screen with blue boxes as i mouse over where the cards should be.

This appears to be a bug in certain of the browsers or a Microsoft control. I've been trying to get some acknowledgement or workaround from them, but haven't gotten an answer yet. In the mean time, the issue you are having seems most prevalent using Google Chrome, less prevalent in IE, and perhaps the least prevalent in Firefox. So, try different browsers, or refresh mutiple times. Once you start seeing the images they should work for your whole session from that point forward.

If you still are having trobules after that, PM me with some of your details (what browser version, what is your machine like, what is your internet connection speed, etc.) and I'll see if I can help you figure out what else to try.

I find it hilarious that not even in it's own programming language (silverlight) is IE the best.

This just happens to be a very specific bug with loading Deep-Zoom images (a cool approach for loading large numbers of images at varying sizes and resolutions over the web in a very efficient manner). The frequency that this bug occurs seems to vary as different browsers take different patch levels. Chrome has generally been the most problematic for me, but after an update the other day to version 17.0.963.78 Chrome has actually been responding more reliably than the others. IE used to respond the best, but recently I've seemed to get slightly less of this particular bug with FireFox.

I just have to add that Silverlight in general has got to be the best language and environment for programming the browser I've seen to date. It's too bad that it's not allowed on iOS devices or it would probably be the best choice for any but the simplest of browser apps.

I completely disagree.  Several reasons:
1.) It's not cross platform.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I like Linux, and I can't use Silverlight apps.  This also applies to your lament about iOS
2.) It's designed by Microsoft
No, this isn't some general "I hate M$" complaint.  Languages designed by large companies are not designed with the interests of the average hacker* in mind.  They're made for big companies with hundreds to thousands of programmers, not small projects like Live.
3.) It's not open source
I am biased here, but on the whole, I have had better experiences with programs that were open source (Chrome, Linux, Android) than those that weren't (IE, Windows, iOS/Windows Phone)

Hmm, I can see the cards now. Not sure what was wrong... Used chrome both times.

I like It, but some cards are missing identifiers, example: lots wife does not come up as Canaanite.
Fixing little bugs like these will make this program almost perfect!

God Bless!

I had occasional issues with Chrome while testing. Chome has weak support for MS/Apple/Adobe plug-ins, and frequent updates break things. Try Firefox if you can, it works better.

Could we make this into a downloadable version? Or maybe an excel sheet.

Thanks,

I only had one problem with it. Sorting through evil brown isrealite kings came up.with a few different things. Bit as a whole, this thing is great.

Mike,

Thanks for creating this great tool for referencing cards. I am enjoying using it!

Any chance you could allow for card special abilities and Play As to be selected so players can copy and paste onto the forums for ruling questions? As far as I know, the Visualizer is the only source of Play As (since the Web REG is gone).

Thank you.

Kirk

Mike, is it better to report minor bugs on this thread or to use the "report an issue" option on the site itself?

When you sort by Versions and select Warriors, the picture of the RoA version of Fortify Site is shown instead of the Warriors version.

The REG is now a searchable PDF  (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/downloads/REG_PDF_v1%200%200.pdf)

That PDF does not contain the info for every single card like the old one did.

Does anyone else find it ironic how much the general populous used to complain about the card entries in the REG and now we all miss them?

Complaints due to the veracity of the entries, not the fact they were there.

This. I never complained about HAVING them, I'd just point out any incorrect information when I saw it.

As a card designer I used the card entries more than probably anyone else, so this

doesn't apply to me.

It's probably better to post here. Since noone ever sends issues to the email address I stopped looking there and might not see an issue for months.

Sounds good Mike...this program is so unbelievably cool!

I noticed the other day that Philip the Evangelist does not have the Evangelist identifier...currently Sower is the only one who pops up when "Evangelist" is selected.  :)

Salome (the Hero) is listed under royalty, possibly because there was a debate about her being the same as Salome the evil princess daughter of Herodias. However, that was ruled to not be the case.
