Hi Everyone,
I created this topic to brainstorm ideas of how to make engaging demo nights at your local game store. At this moment Roy and I are working hard to demo Redemption at our local stores in San Antonio.
Idea #1 - New players typically will only buy the starter decks. We hope to gather engaged players willing to invest into a new game, but what can we do in the mean time to fuel the chase and further engage a player's desire to seek out new cards? So what if you offered small card packs to the winner of games when they buy a starter deck.
I want to preface this idea by saying I want to avoid throwing our new players into the meta "deep end" by emphasizing any level of usefulness of new cards vs old cards. Obviously we wouldn't award a limited Buckler to a new player
Something like Sword of the Spirit (Kings) can really speak to new players just because of its big numbers and multi color.
You could offer to the winner:
Armor of God Pack - When two new players play each other award an Armor of God piece or pack off pieces to the winner of a match or best out of 3. (Kings AoGs)
or
Beef up that Starter Pack - Offer a small 2-5 card pack that specifically beefs up the starter decks.
This kind of system appeals to the deck construction part of the game. I like the Armor of God pack idea because it points toward a simple type of theming. Eventually when a new players joins the ranks of those working in the meta those old cards will lose their usefulness, but I think attaching feelings of a learning a new game and winning your first game to these cards will create strong feelings toward the game. I still LOVE SA (War) simply because of all the times RedemptionAggie whipped me with it back in 2004-2005 on RTS. I remember being in awe of that card when I was 16 years old. Anyway, you could also let the new player know that there are stronger AoG piece combos out there in the new packs...the chase begins.
What do ya'll think?
