Title: ROOT thoughts on playing with the NJ ban.
Post by: Prof Underwood on April 02, 2013, 08:38:31 AM
So what was everyone's experience like playing with NJ banned.

Personally I learned that if NJ is banned, then the 2-liner/3-liner would need to be banned at the same time.

Other than that, I enjoyed opponents having to actually win 4 LSs in battle.

I agree. It does tend to favor defensive heavy decks (similar to the restricted format), most of which don't use NJ anyway. TBH, I'm not sure if I would support an NJ ban or not, if it were to ever come up.

Whew...when I saw saw "NJ ban" I thought that meant Redemption New Jersey.

Nah, you guys add way too much humor to the game for us to ever ban :)

On your first thought, I've never liked the 2/3 Liners, and think that Redemption would only be better off if they were gone.

On your second thought, I completely agree.  It felt nice knowing that your opponent could get to 3 and it wasn't GG.  Also, it made for more battles, which is always good for the game.

It's hard to support a NJ ban when there is another dominant that begs the banhammer so much more...  That being Mayhem.

Personally, I'd really like to play some Redemption games with no dominants or 2/3 Liners.  Maybe play to 4 redeemed souls, and have good/evil cards equal.

I had no problem with it in T1. I thought it was fun and extended the game a bit. Overall, it seemed to weaken the aggro decks and strengthen the control decks.
I don't think that rule is necessary for T2 since you go to 7 anyways.

I agree that if NJ is banned, that 2/3 liner souls should be too. That was frustrating. I also like having NJ in there to begin with though.

In deck building, I went with any card that would make 2liner better including Hormah, AntiBurial LS, and DoU. I enjoyed the format very much and was glad the games went past the race to 3.
