Quick question: is Tabernacle in play? It's not in Lackey yet, but to my understanding it is legal for tournament play.

Since both your and Adevine's opponents were not able to play, I could switch the match-up so you guys get a game this week. I know its late in the week and it may not work out, but wanted to give you the option. Since there aren't any prizes for RooT currently, the whole purpose is to get games in for practice and deck testing so getting a free win kinda defeats that purpose.  :P

Sounds good--the only difference it will make is who you play in round 2.
Title: Re: RooT 2017 Session 1 -- Round 1 Pairings & Game reports
Post by: The Guardian on August 17, 2017, 02:43:21 PM
Assuming Josiah and Ben get their game in tonight, that would be all the match-ups complete. I had mentioned to megamanlan and Adevine about playing a match against each other since both their opponents were not able to play, but I think we could just move to round 2 (and they might end up playing each other anyway).

Also, dermo4christ will be joining and Reth will need to take a couple weeks off due to a vacation. With the situation involving JD, that will put us at an odd number for Round 2, but I can certainly do a game (or if anyone else thinks they may not be available for Round 2, I'll put them as the bye).

Well done getting the games in everyone!  8)

I'm glad you got RooT up and running again. It's the best way for me to learn about the game and stay connected to the community  because I don't have a play group anymore.

I just got home from the baseball game, and I do confirm this.  It was a great game and a lot of fun.

On a side note, I suggest players get Twitch Call while playing Lackey....in addition to speeding the game up, I thought it added something special to be able to talk to your opponent.  I thought that it added the fellowship aspect to an online game which I enjoy most about Redemption.

He initially thought he would need to, but I chatted with him after that and my impression was that he wanted to continue (and he ended up playing his round 2 game after that).

If he does end up withdrawing then I'll figure something else out.

Since Lackey has been down for this afternoon and evening, and there's still a lot of games left, I will extend the deadline for round 3 until this Wednesday at 10 pm CST. We will then start round 4 on Thursday.

Since there's no prizes, the idea is just to get some games in with people you may not normally play against, so just trying to promote that.  8)

Pretty disappointing that only 2 games out of 8 were played...kinda bummed that I spend time organizing so that people can get games in only to see such low participation.

Before I go any further, let me say that I'm not pointing fingers or calling anyone out. I'm also not asking anyone to bow out because the whole point is to find a way for people to gain experience, learn new strategies (and how to play against them) and play against people from other areas/playgroups. Hopefully it's just an aberration that perhaps had something to do with school and other fall activities beginning this time of year, and consequently this was just a bad week schedule-wise for a lot of players.

However, if people think this might continue then it might behoove us to consider changing up the RooT format. Are people finding they have no time at all for online play or is it just a struggle to get two specific schedules to line up? If we changed RooT to an "open play" style, would that be of interest? Are people only truly interested in playing if there is prize support?

I'll put together the week 4 pairings and we'll see how that goes, but would appreciate some feedback.

An open play style might be a good idea. If people can post when there online or when they are usually online that would be best.

Sorry! I know for me it is just hard getting the schedules to mesh.  I work 40+ a week at a "normal" job, plus pastor full time, plus working on my Masters degree, plus a family of 6 :) So for me I suppose its a bit of overload on my part. Probably should not have signed up until I knew for sure I could devote to it.  I apologize, but thanks for all your hard work though on getting things together!!

I'm going to ghost Megamanlan this week and drop out. School is getting too busy. And FWIW, prizes would not have kept me in. My guess is everyone was excited to play redemption after nationals and wanted too... life kicks in and you check your priority list, in which redemption is pretty low. Like going to a buffet and taking everything that looks good but only finishing half of it. I don't know if an open format is going to be any different than how people are finding pick up games online already.

I won't be home from working until pretty late tomorrow so if anyone wants to try and get their game in tomorrow night, I won't be updating until Friday morning or afternoon.  8)

In Adevine's defense I also couldn't play our game this week :(

I had a orchestral audition and started another teaching gig, and I just couldn't find the time to contact him. I should be good to play Round 4 this week!
