Prizes for the April ROOT!

I used random.org to choose the games for the drawings.

The drawing from all games played turned up a game played in week 3 by Prof Underwood.  Congratulations Mark!

The drawing from all games played by participants who didn't make the top 10 turned up a game played in week 1 by crustpope.  Congratulations Matt!

The prize for most improved was a tough decision because there were multiple good candidates.  We took into consideration sportsmanship, strength of schedule and player input (if you PM'd Jonathan) in addition to who moved up the rankings most.  This month the award goes to Prof Underwood.  Congratulations Mark!

All winners can expect a PM from me asking for your full name, address and your pack of choice.  Cactus will mail your prize shortly.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the April ROOT!

Gabe

6.  NWJonathan        2 pts
7.  Prof Underwood    1 pt
7.  Isildur                 1 pt
7.  Ring Wraith          1 pt
7.  BunnyReaper        1 pt
7.  NeverSmDKTwice  1 pt*
Here's a question about rankings.  On the one hand it is stated that rankings don't carry over from the previous month.  Therefore, all five of the people tied at 7th place are completely equal right now.  Therefore, if any of us beat NWJonathan, then we would get 1 bonus point for beating someone 1 spot above us.

However, if the rankings from last month actually do carry over (sort of), then NeverSmDKTwice would get 3 bonus points for beating someone 5 spots above them.

So, I'm curious.  Which is it?

I was running on the idea that everything is wiped.  Last month is only kept around for comparing on who improved the most.  Or people can see where they were and where they are now.  If NWJonathan gets beat by any of the five then it is 1 bonus point because essentially you are all tied.  Separation tends to happen between week 2 and 3.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to do this (which is what I do):  ask if they are in the ROOT...and ask what is their online board name.  That helps some.  Sorry Matt, I understand your frustration because you would have been tied for 1st this week.  Look on the bright side, you still get bonus points for beating Gabe this week.  :)

We need a hamachi network for ONLY RTS players.
We actually already have a hamachi network for ROOT players only.  It currently has open spots, so feel free to join :)

The Hamachi network is only for people that are actively playing in the current tournament.  Since we're in the second week of the May tournament, if you plan to play, please join!  :)

ROOT tournaments run for one full month.  They start around the first of the month (the first Monday) and end around the last day of the month (the last Sunday).  Because there's an odd number of days in a month it will sometimes overlap another month by a couple days.

Fyi you accidentally gave yourself two wins against me in the rankings page, and as much as I would have liked to play you again we only played once last night.

No, sorry for the confusion.  The numbers help me keep track of how many games people have played in a week's time.  So the "2" stands for my second game of the week and I won it.   Once somebody has a "3" beside them then they are done with challenges for the week.  Let me know if you have any other questions about the layout....several on here can answer them too.

ah ok, that makes sense - can you play the same person more than once in a week?

No, you can't.  I like to encourage people to play different ones, so you must find 3 different opponents.  In can be tough at times when people start maxing out on games but it prevents someone from beating up on the same person over and over.

Andy, glad to have you back! ;D

The rule is still the same, you cannot challenge someone for next week until next week starts. ;)

The mysterious CalebJ challenged me to an OTS.  He drew a soul each turn and I didn't so I won. :P

Our second game for fun was quite the stand off!  ;D

NeverSmDKTwice (Herman) challenged me to an OTS today.  He only drew one defender though and the game was over pretty quick.
Crustpope challenged me to an OTS.  I always get the most amazing draws against him.  I'm not sure how that works.  He also only drew one EC out of 9 in 20+ cards.  All in all it was kind of an odd game that ended in a win for me.

3 of your most recent 5 games appear to have been decided based mainly on the draw.  Maybe you should rethink how much you find my "triple reset" to be bunk?

Just kidding, I know from experience that you would win even if you had a bad draw :)

Games in real life are decided just as much "on the draw." Every time you cut or shuffle your deck before a game, you are significantly altering the course of things. It's no different on RTS.

Also, Gabe has the humility to not praise himself for his wins, and will attribute the game to randomness rather than his skill.

The same thing could be said of some of my games at Iowa States last weekend.  I had both T1 and T2 games where my opponent could not draw what they needed.  I'll spare you the boring examples.  :)

Those games were all real life.  Ironically I use Prof's "triple reset" in real life by pile shuffling my deck at least three times with some riffle shuffles in between.

Thanks for noticing just the same Prof.  ;)

Hey Gabe... did you see my challenge?  :)

I did.  Since you made it on Sunday I'm not obligated to accept it.

After our last game I have no desire to play you online unless we're paired up in the final week and have to play.  Considering you told me that you weren't going to play me online anymore I'm surprised that you decided to make a challenge. :dunno:

I'll gladly accept.  Especially since we haven't gotten to play yet this month in ROOT.  :)
