Title: November/December ROOT
Post by: Prof Underwood on October 25, 2011, 01:32:05 AM
If you are interested in joining the Nov/Dec ROOT, please post on this thread.  This tournament will also be going for 5 weeks (starting Nov 7th, and skipping the week of Thanksgiving).

Only rescuing opponent's LSs is out:
This month, we will NOT be using the proposed rule of only allowing players to rescue their opponent's LSs, but I would like everyone to share their experiences with that last month here (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/redemption-online-official-tournament/feedback-on-opp-lss-only-(used-in-oct-root)/)

"Dominant Cap" experiment is in:
We  WILL be experimenting with another experimental rule.  For a deck to legal this month, there can ONLY be as many dominants in the deck as there are LSs (Hopper doesn't count).  At the end of games, please reset the game and allow your opponent to look at your deck to check the number of dominants.  Please share your feedback here (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/redemption-online-official-tournament/feedback-on-dom-cap-(used-in-novdec-root)/) regarding how this rule has affected your games.

Week 5 (Final week) matchups:
Kirk vs. Pol
Alex_O vs. Drrek
Chronic vs. NWJ
Prof U vs. cg25

Nope, standard rules other than limiting dominants in decks to be equal to the number of LSs in the deck (not counting Hopper).

Also, I'll be playing again (hopefully doing better than last month) :)

I know there probably isn't any other way to do it, but I don't like the idea of revealing my deck to every opponent in the middle of a tournament.

Title: Re: November/December ROOT

Prof Underwood said that you have to show your opponent your deck after you finish your game to prove that you have the proper number of dominants for the cap.

I understand that.  However, you only have to show your deck to the player who just finished playing you.  They will know your deck by that point anyway.

And I maintain the normal expectation of ROOT for players to NOT reveal their opponent's decks when they post scores or talk with other players.  I have deleted information like that from posts before, and I will again, so hopefully no one will make me :)

Since nobody seems to have mentioned it, does NWJ basically get a bye the first round since lp670 is still MIA? Or did he ninja return and I haven't noticed? >_<

Oops.  I forgot that he went AWOL after posting that he wanted to play this month.  Yeah, I guess that does mean NWJ gets a bye (unless we have someone else join this week, who would become his opponent).

Drrek won 5-3 in the most ridiculous game I have ever played in the history of ever.  I don't know how many turns we had no deck and a couple cards in hand between us.  Nasty combos and counter-combos that just...I have no more words.

On a side note...why did I have to start the tournament against the ONE person who knows what I like to play?  Again?!

Not that it made any difference but not fun...

You should have done what I did and tech against T2 ;)
I'm hoping that wink at the end means that you didn't really do that.  Teching specifically against a player in this tournament is bad form.  You aren't supposed to be able to choose a deck in a tournament after knowing who your opponent is going to be.  Therefore, I want to discourage players from doing that in ROOT as well.
Title: Re: November/December ROOT
Post by: Minister Polarius on November 16, 2011, 11:54:52 AM
I think the T2 should have been as much of a tip-off of joviality as the wink. I actually used a deck that should perform very poorly against a 105 on paper.
Title: Re: November/December ROOT
Post by: Chronic Apathy on November 16, 2011, 11:55:40 AM
You shouldn't be talking about your opponent's deck.
Title: Re: November/December ROOT
Post by: Minister Polarius on November 16, 2011, 11:59:03 AM
If Slug has a problem with it I'm sure he'll say so, but I am pretty sure I know him well enough to know that he knows everyone knows he uses 100+ decks. If you care to go through the backlogs of tournament results, I think you'll find I never talk about anyone's deck during a tournament except in cases like these. Maybe just this particular case.

This tournament will also be going for 5 weeks (starting Nov 7th, and skipping the week of Thanksgiving).

Just to clarify, this being the week of Thanksgiving, do we have until 12/4/11 to complete this week?  Doesn't look like my opponent and myself will be able to match up time-wise until after the holiday, and this is what I had anticipated based on the first post.  Just looking to confirm so neither of us ghost.

Thanks for bringing that up.  Yes you do have basically 2 weeks to get in this week's game.  That is part of why this is the Nov/Dec ROOT, and will hopefully give everyone the chance to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday without worrying about ghosting.

Just another thing to be thankful for :)

Is this a serious accusation?  Are Redoubter and Drrek the same person?  I noticed that they were asked in the chat box about it and avoided the question, or even implied that they might be.

If so, then it would be very poor form for them to be competing in ROOT as 2 separate people.  I would appreciate a response from them on this.

Nah, no accusation, just a joke (hence the haha).  :P

The easiest way to tell me and my brother apart is by our sense of humor  ;D  Slugfencer knew I might log on my brother's computer since I was at my parents' all weekend, so when he logged on he asked if I was there essentially.  Which I couldn't let go without SOME sort of joke.

They are brothers, both in ROOT,  I will let them argue who is the better player. Drrek is Blake (Type 1 player), Redoubter is Dayne (Type 2 player)

Unfortunately I think Blake has me at T1 right now (2p at least), but at least I still have more experience at T2  8)

I really don't take offense to the questioning, I think it's logical to ask.  If anyone still has a question or problem, just have an admin check my IP logs :)  Otherwise my dismal performances at T1 in ROOT should vouch for me... :(

Thanks for all the responses there guys.  I'll consider the issue resolved at this point, and will be updating the rankings and matchups here in a bit :)

New Rankings & Matchups for Week 4 are posted.

I apologize to Megamanlan, who just joined us for getting the bye.  Rest assured, you'll get a game next week (or this week if someone else joins too).

Just to clarify, this would only be a "for fun" game and wouldn't affect any rankings in ROOT :)

Alright I don't know what we're supposed to do here, but here's what happened.

I played Red for our match, and I won 5-3, but after we finished, we reset to check our decks, and it turned out Red had accidentally put in more Dominants than lost souls.  I don't mind at all if the match is just recorded as a 5-3 win for me, since the extra dom did not not effect the game at all, and I won, however I am unsure of how this is supposed to be ruled.

Obviously since Underwood is the supreme chancellor of ROOT, his word is final on this, but I would argue that Red would be disqualified with a 5-0 loss.

Lost 5-3 in a REALLY close game.  Thought I was done from the beginning, but killing everything has a way of balancing things out...oh well, good game.

Confirmed and having all but one hero who just happened to be buried in the deck REALLY hurts...

I'd be glad to have you just join for the last couple weeks of this tourney, but joining with the intention of quitting right afterward seems to go against the spirit of the tourney.  Let me know if you want in, and I'd be glad to have you play Mega.

I didn't really come up with a plan of what to do in cases like this as I assumed that everyone would be sure that their decks were legal.  In this particular case, I would be inclined to just count the game with the current score since you're agreeable and say that it didn't affect anything.

The only caveat is that if anyone else does this before the end of the month, and it makes a difference in their game, then I'll probably have to call both games 5-0 to be consistent.  Therefore everyone please be sure to NOT have too many dominants in your decks :)

Underwood is the supreme chancellor of ROOT
That has a nice ring to it.

I don't remember, but I'm going to try to find out over PM (I'd rather keep whatever it is off this thread).

Yeah the ROOT networks been full for a while, there's a backup network too, but I don't remember the information for that one.  You two can always use the I'm LFG network if you can't meet up in the ROOT ones also.

If you can give Underwood proof that you tried to contact him, then yes, you'll get the points for it. Underwood, can we get the final rankings soon? My understand is that it should be Kirk, then me, then Drrek, but I'm not entirely sure about that.
