Title: May/June ROOT
Post by: Chris on May 19, 2012, 10:31:01 PM
Hey guys, I apologize for not posting this a week ago, but it slipped my mind, and Underwood is away for a while, so I will be running this month's ROOT alone. Please keep this in mind during the month, and send all comments and queries to Professoralstad, instead of to Underwood or Chris.

If you want to participate in the May/June ROOT, post in this thread.

This month we'll be experimenting with the Restricted Dominants rule!

Under this rule, no player may have more than two good dominants and two evil dominants per deck. Note: T2 Decks may have up to three good and three evil dominants.

Final Rankings:

I work at a summer camp from June 5th to August 3rd, and will not have consistent internet except on weekends. Rather than revise the established ROOT schedule or use up my breaks maintaining ROOT, it's easier to just give someone else control of it for this month.

Just checking.

I will allow people to sign up until Wednesday, then I will give people pairings. It's a pretty small tourney so far, so unless more people join, I don't think I'll be able to justify having a six week tournament. Currently I will plan to make it four weeks, but the ultimate decision will be based on how many people join.

For this experimenting, do I have to go UP to 2 good and evil Doms?

Yeah, I'll try again.

Nope. 2 Doms of each type is merely a maximum. You can have 0, 1, or 2 of each type.

Just a note: The Restricted Format allows for THREE of each type of dominant (good and evil) for T2 Decks, so if you plan to play T2 for any of your games, keep that in mind.

I will allow anyone else to sign up through tomorrow morning, and will plan to set the pairings around noon tomorrow (CST). Anyone signing up after that will have to wait until next week to be paired up.

Is the limited Dom rules including the new rule of only rescuing from opponents land of bondage?  Also, Prof A, you mentioned limited weeks, what week (date-wise) will it go through?

The new rule of only rescuing from opponent's land of bondage is now official for all Redemption tournaments, including ROOT. So yes, the Restricted format goes hand in hand with that rule.

With ten people, I am planning to do five weeks, so it would go essentially through the third week of June, if 3-4 or more people are added to the tourney by tomorrow, it may be extended to six weeks (end of June). I will decide that firmly when I post the pairings

My third son was due on July 7th but instead was born yesterday.  (Judah Gideon Pequignot)  I would like to play but I don't know if that will be possible now.  It may be best to drop me from the tourney since my availability will be unreliable now.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Wow, congratulations! Five weeks is pretty early, hopefully he is doing well? I know my nephew who was 6 weeks early had to be in NICU for a week or two, but is now a very healthy 1 year old.

Either way, I will keep you on the tourney this week, just let your opponent know you'll probably be ghosting this week (unless you can find time). And if you end up finding that it just won't work out, I will cut you from the tourney next week.

Congrats again, Judah is an awesome name!

He is doing well.  He is being kept in a special care nursery mostly for precationary reasons.  We will hopefully get to take him home within a week.  He was born at 6 lbs. 3 ounces which is above average for that age and he has been doing better than they'd expect for his age.  The hardest part is just not having him home yet and having to go visit at the hospital a few times a day.

Thanks for that, we really like the name (and the boy) too!

Did you guys actually start playing because, last month Prof and Chris would not just let me give my opponent a 5-0 win.  If you did not play, Isn't it true that it would be a ghost and three ls points not five?

If they didn't allow it then that was a mistake due to other ccgs allowing concessions as well as offical tournaments.
Title: Re: May/June ROOT
Post by: Prof Underwood on June 11, 2012, 09:39:07 PM
Robm is correct.  ROOT does NOT allow concession.  If you deserve a "ghost", then you can't get a free 1VP and avoid the -5LSD just by saying that you conceed.  This is to encourage people to actually play games, which is part of the fundamental purpose of ROOT.

Also, just a head's up, I won't be back fully in time to run the next ROOT.  I may join it late, but in either case, hopefully Prof A will continue his capable leadership of it in my absence :)

Actually, I think the best plan is to go with the 2nd highest vote getter from last month (shorter time limits).  This will also help the last ROOT of the season to help people tune up for Nats with something similar to the time restraints that they will have there.

If Prof A is agreeable to this, then I think going with a time limit of 75 mins would be a good idea.  It still gives a little extra time (since playing on RTS is slower), but is much closer to the 50 min rounds that will be there at Nats than the typical ROOT time limit of 120 mins.  It will also be a chance for those turtle-lovers to either try something different, or see if they can actually pull off their deck idea in time.
