Title: January ROOT
Post by: Prof Underwood on December 21, 2011, 11:33:50 AM
If you are interested in joining the Jan ROOT, please post on this thread.  This tournament will also be going for 5 6 weeks (starting Jan 3rd).

"Dominant Cap" experiment is out:
This month, we will NOT be using the proposed Dominant-cap rule.  But I would like everyone to share their experiences with that last month here (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/redemption-online-official-tournament/feedback-on-dom-cap-(used-in-novdec-root)/) regarding how this rule has affected your games.

"No 1st turn RA's or Doms" is in:
This month we will be experimenting with a limitation on each player's 1st turn of the game that they may NOT make a rescue attempt (or battle challenge) or play any dominants.  Please post your feedback on how this rule proposal affected your games here. (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/redemption-online-official-tournament/feedback-on-1st-turn-limits-(used-in-jan-root)/)

Can someone clarify the way RNRS points work for this? I recognize that there aren't prizes, however, do we get points based on our placement for each month, or is it determined by the Round Robin tournament during the summer?

It was still randomized. Theoretically, they would have ended up together regardless.

megamanlan, I've added you to the list, however, you won't get points for the bye since you joined late. If someone else would like to join this week, then you will play them.
Title: Re: January ROOT
Post by: soul seeker on January 04, 2012, 01:25:47 PM
I guess I'll join for kicks and giggles and to eliminate a bye.  I was being wishy/washy about it since half my month is free and the other half is school work.  I suppose one game a week isn't going to kill me when it will overlap classes.  Plus, it will help me work on not being so competitive.....to have fun and not care about winning in a competitive environment.

I'm having computer troubles getting rts to connect, so I'm going to ask that my opponent get ghost points for this week since I missed our first designated time to play anyway, and its my computer that is having the trouble.

It's possible he won 7-2 then. If he had 4 LSs rescued and the three liner tapped then he could SOG/NJ the 3 liner (worth two) and another, rescuing 3 LSs at once. but i don't think it matters I'm pretty sure in ROOT we use the rule that you can only rescue 5 LSs in a game anyway.

Yeah, it was 7-2 T1. I had the Shuffler, Site Doubler, Anti Angel, Thorns, 3-Line, and Pigs. I count 5 Single LSs and 1 Double. It was a fun match and I really enjoyed it.

In T1 the max you can rescue now is 5, and the game ends. In the olden days you could score over 5 such as you guys did, but they made a rule that it auto stops at 5.

In sadder news,
Red=3
me=0

At one point, it was possible to win with 10 souls total. In a 5 player multiplayer game, you have four souls rescued and you tap five different 2-Liners, one from each of your opponents and then yourself. You play SoG/NJ and all of your opponents play NJ to get the other half of each 2-Liner, while you use SoG to hit your own 2-Liner and one last soul. Unfortunately, due to two separate rule changes, this is no longer possible, but it was a fun concept while it lasted.

You would have to have literally everyone cooperating for this to happen.

I was counting this as simply a no game played since no one contacted me requesting ghost points.  Did NWJ actually try to set up a game with you and then it didn't happen?  I just want to make sure before giving him points and giving you the ghost.

If neither participant cared, it's not important. We tend to be a bit more lax about it than tournaments held in real life.

Yeah, cause in tournaments held in real life, long games affect more people than just the players.

Strictly speaking, long games still affect more than just the players on a very rigid line of fairness, however, it's not that big of a deal.

OK, that's a bummer, because now I have to go back and redo the final rankings.  The good news is that I think it'll bump you up to #5 for the month (which I think is a new high for you).  The bad news is that it'll drop a bunch of people down 1 spot (but since they're out of the top 3 they probably won't mind).

It's fairly non-consequential, and if Hobbit comes on and defends himself saying no such thing happened, then we can discuss it. In the meantime, it doesn't change RNRS points or prizes, and anyone can forge a PM. Personally, I would accept nothing but screencaps when dealing with "proof" of a ghosting.
