Title: 2013 Feb/Mar ROOT
Post by: Prof Underwood on February 18, 2013, 09:59:54 PM
This will be the next ROOT tournament for the 2012-2013 Season. If you want to join, post here telling me that, and I will give you a matchup for next week.

Players have suggested many rule modifications in the past.  This month the rule modification is players choice:
"NJ Ban" - No deck is allowed to contain the New Jerusalem dominant card.

Reporting games: All posts/PMs made by 3 am EST Monday night will be counted as official.

Week 5 (Final) Matchups:
Guardian vs. jbeers
maniac vs. slug
Prof A vs. MKC
jmhartz vs. Westok
Prof U vs. Thomas Hunter

Best 2/3 again. With NJ banned.

And I'm in. Double elim won't work great in ROOT. Though it would be a time saver.

In, NJ ban.

Also, why are we still using the ambiguous language of reporting by Monday night/Tuesday morning?

I think my predecessor used that language because he meant overnight on Monday (which would include both).  Considering that there hasn't been anyone reporting games past 3am EST Tues morning (which would still be Mon night out west), it hasn't been an issue, so I haven't changed it.
Title: Re: 2013 Feb/Mar ROOT
Post by: Master KChief on February 19, 2013, 07:54:36 AM
It is an issue when someone reports 'Tuesday morning' and gets robbed of points because 'Monday night' is there as well. Why not just avoid the whole fiasco and make it a concrete set time as before, such as midnight CST or whatever?

I think everyone understands that Mon night/Tue morning means during the nighttime of Mon and around midnight with a bit of flexibility for time zones.  But if you want to assume that people are incapable of "deciphering around the social vernacular", then I can change it to be more objective :)

I stopped right there. Assumptions and lack of clarity doesn't promote an impartial tournament structure.

When does this ROOT start?
Today, I've just been swamped.  I just used Random.org to get the following sequence:
 6
 9
 7
 2
10
 5
 3
 8
11
 4
 1

Games will be assigned based on that.  I'll clean it up later, but you can go with that if you're in a hurry.

Nope, we're glad to have you.  If you can play a game against The Guardian before Mon Midnight, then you can get points for this week.  Otherwise, I'll schedule you an opponent for next week (which is only week 2, so plenty of time for you to come back).

Is it okay to play a T2 match if both players agree? I know this was allowed in the past for ROOT but wasn't sure if that was still the case.

Yep, if both players agree, then it's fine.  This particular month it would still be important for the T2 decks to NOT include NJ though since that is the experiment we are currently testing.

Man, I was crazy busy this week, and it doesn't look like it's going to slow down for another couple weeks. I'm going to have to drop. Enjoy the NJ ban everybody.

Give Westok the points for this round. My fault we couldn't find a time to play.

Woops, you're totally right.  I had received a couple PMs about ghosting (which I usually get right before I'm supposed to tally results) and I got my days confused.

Play on, and I'll reconfigure tomorrow if anything changes between now and then.

I defeated MKC 5-4 in a rather uneventful game. I made the only successful block by playing Grapes, and he played AotL in another rescue, but otherwise we walked in for free LSs every turn.

He also ripped a Plot but thanks to Isaiah, it didn't stop King Hezekiah from rescuing a LS.  8)
