Title: Seven Years of Plenty
Post by: Sunglasses on May 11, 2018, 10:55:55 AM
For Seven Years of Plenty, if played in battle, does the character still get the 7 strength benefit even if SYoP says it's placed in territory (meaning it leaves the field of battle)?

Also, does SYoP mean I draw during each player's upkeep phase, or just mine?

Seven Years of Plenty: Search deck for a Genesis or Exodus Fortress. Place this card in your territory for 7 turns: Each upkeep, if you control a Genesis character, you may draw 1.

No, it would have to remain in battle for the 7 strength to count (for example, if the place ability was negated, the enhancement would return to the field of battle and the numbers would count).

It's just your upkeep when you draw.

Would the elders consider changing the "Play as" to: "On your upkeep, if you control a Genesis..." and similar instances of "each upkeep" because syntactically it means "anytime there is an upkeep."

Im not sure what happened there with this double post...

(Forgive me if you understood my original point, im making sure): What my clarification request was about is that grammatical syntax of the card is saying that each time there is an upkeep and this card is in your territory draw a card, but if you are saying that it is supposed to draw the card ONLY on the player who control's the card, then why not make the syntax equal that: "on your upkeep . . . "? This second syntax doenst leave anything up to interpretation.

Thank you guys. That's what I thought; I just wanted to make sure.

So essentially I could play Book of Jashar on SYoP and retain initiative, all while drawing two cards on each of my upkeep phases (assuming nothing is negated afterward)?

Book of Jashar functionally cannot copy SYoP - the copy only lasts until it leaves it battle, so when it places itself it ceases to be SYoP.

I remember reading that in the REG now... thanks for the reminder!
