However, since it was so close to my upper limit already and there was still a couple days left of the auction, I assumed it would jump up far past where I was willing to go, and therefore didn't even try. My loss.

True. But I did bid on both of those, so at least I helped the seller end up making a bit more money. And in the 2nd case, I got to be a part of something related to my childhood hero. It was worth it just to bid :)
