Explanation and April Fools
« on: April 01, 2009, 08:43:13 AM »

With much excitement and a little hesitancy my wife and I are moving forward to a new season of life.  We sold our house yesterday.  In 30 days we will be packing up what we can take with us and moving to Tajikistan to share the gospel among an unreached people group that lives there.

I plan to keep a couple Redemption decks but realistically I can't take most of these cards with me.  I need to part with them quickly so they're priced to sell.  I'm also giving 100 free commons for every purchase of $10 or more.  Just include a note with the brigade(s) you'd like.  Shipping is $1 per order.  I can accept paypal, checks or cash.

Yes, this was an April fools joke.  I expect that someday we will be called elsewhere, but that hasn't happened yet.  It might be across the state, across the country or across the world.  All I know is that we need to be ready to go and hold on to the things of this world loosely.  Both of those things can be tough.

Last year I took a class called Perspectives on the World Christian Movement.  This year my wife is taking it.  Talk about an amazing eye opening experience.  There's so many awesome stories about how God has been moving throughout the ages and the class ties it all together.  If the class is offered in your area it's worth the time and money.

Thanks to all who PM'd me and offered your support and prayers.  It's great being part of this community of Redemption players.  I cherish what we have and will miss it whenever God calls me away.

Oh, and thanks for being good sports!  I promise not to be so ornery next year... maybe. ::)

I'll take:

1   Destruction of Nehushtan   $4.00 (save the other two for other people :))
1   Unholy Writ                     $1.00
1   King of Tyrus (Wa)            $4.00
1   The Destroyer                  $1.00
1   Fire, Smoke, and Sulfur      $1.00
                                         $11.00

*edit (I would rather spend the extra five bucks to get the boosters in the tins (and the actual tin itself (I use them for my playgroup deck holders)).  Sorry)

Actually, this is THE market to buy houses (since they are so cheep right now).  So it isn't surprising that they sold their house quickly (and who knows when they put there house on the market to begin with).

except, I've been trying to sale for well over a year AND banks are making it very hard for most to get loans AND people are losing jobs AND people are afraid to invest into a house with a collapsing economy AND the list goes on...Trust me, I have had MANY conversations with my real estate agent.  I know more about the housing market than I want to.

Perhaps even to a small boarding school in the hills of Eastern KY where God completely transforms the lives of teenagers who really need transforming.

Gabe,

Thanks for keeping us on our toes. The explanation is thought provoking and it is good to keep us ever aware that we can be called on to make the move across the state, country or world. I like the lyrics from the song Crawl to China by Tourniquet. The first line says "Is God asking you to crawl to China  Or just to cross the street?  It can be that simple.

I told you guys the quick selling of his house gave it away.

I disagree with you on that point.  I've seen two families I know sell their house in three weeks or less this year when God called them off to a mission field.  One was my parents, the other a family from church.  I know that's not the norm in our economy.  I also saw friends wait a year or more for their house to sell.  I saw God use all these situations for his glory.  He's bigger than our economy.  When he's ready to move your house will sell my friend.  :)

I must admit from time to time my faith has been rattled some by the slow sale of our house.

But then, God sends an encouragement in different forms to let me and my family know He still cares.

It has been a frustrating process, because my personality type likes to see the "end of the tunnel" or to "know the big picture."

I'm sure that some of the priest's faith was rattled when they got to the edge of the Jordan River and nothing happened.  They had been walking to it for a while and it was the "last possible moment" and nothing happened.  But they just started wading out into it anyway.  It wasn't until they were already in the river that it parted and the Israelites were able to walk through to Jericho.

God's timing is not our timing.  I know that you already know that, but I thought you might want to be reminded anyway :)

I understand what it is like to have a house not sell for a long time.  Let me encourage you by sharing a similar experience and how the Lord brought us through it.  I pray you might take comfort in what the Lord will do for you and your family after hearing what He did for mine.

The Lord moved my family from Virginia to Florida a couple years back due to God calling my dad to a new church (He is a pastor).  We put our house on the market in early February 2007 and this was in the midst of the rapid collapse of housing market.  My dad had to move to start his new position in March in Florida and left my mom and my siblings (minus my older sister at college) in Virgina.  In a small town of 5,000 people in Florida, there were not homes available for sale that had more than 2 bedrooms and it would be so hard to live in a house with only 2 bedrooms, so we had to decide to build a home there.  My dad needed a place to live in the meantime, so he rented a house there.  My family moved down during the second week in June to the rental home as the builders began construction of our new home.  However, our house back in Virgina just would not sell and we had to slowly lower the price by a fourth of the initial listing price.  It was a very trying time for my family, as my dad had to make payments on 3 homes starting in July 2007, the one for sale in Virginia, the rental home in Florida, and the new home being built.

We already were hard pressed to make ends meet in Virgina when we had a single house payment to worry about, so it was definitely a time of great reliance upon the Lord during the 6 months of 3 house notes.  We sought after the Lord in the sale of our home, but it was not the Lord's timing.  God was good and provided enough money each month to cover three house notes, and it was incredible to see God's provision!  I started college in August and was not there during most of this trying period, but it was incredible to hear of God's amazing greatness in meeting our needs during such a hard time.  As I was in prayer at school over this situation, it was so encouraging to get phone calls from my parents about how money, food, and other gifts were anonymously mailed to us and people who hardly knew who my parents were approached them to help make ends meet.  We moved into our new home just before Christmas in 2007 and the house in Virgina finally sold in the the early spring of 2008.

The housing situation did not go the way we expected it to, and it was very hard on my family, but God showed us that His ways are higher and that He was using such a time to teach us to fully rely on Him more.  We had to trust God to literally provide for our daily needs, because if it weren't for him, my family literally would not have had money to put food on the table.

I hope you don't mind reading the long post, but I wanted to brag on our God and His greatness and give Him the glory He deserves.  I pray that this is an encouragement to you to continue to seek after the Lord wholeheartedly, and He will be faithful to meet your needs, and that includes selling your home.

Praying for you and your family, God bless,
Kirk

Thank you Kirk and others for sharing with and encouraging me.  I'm just carrying one house...I can't even imagine 3.  It is great to hear how God moves and cares about His children.  Again, thank you for encouraging me.  At Christmas time, I couldn't imagine how I was going to keep the house until March and now it's April and God continues to provide.  Again, thank you guys for your encouragement and prayers!
