Title: Alternate Border Cards - 2nd Release
Post by: CactusRob on August 12, 2017, 09:45:35 AM
We released a set of alternate border Cloud of Witnesses cards at Nationals 2016 and an alternate border set of Revelation of John cards at Nationals 2017.  Response has been overwhelming.  Yet, a number of people are not able to make it to Nationals to obtain these cards.  After consulting with a number of collectors at Nationals and here on the boards, I have decided to do the following:

For a limited time, I am going to make the alternate border cards of CoW available for sale at the Cactus website from Oct 10th through Oct 31, 2017.

We will accept prepaid pre-orders during this time period and then order cards from our printer in early November.  You should receive your cards around mid to late December.

Cost will be $5.00 per pack or $120.00 per display box. If you buy a display box (24 packs) and you will also receive one (1) The Tabernacle national tournament promo card for each Cloud of Witnesses Alternate Border display box that you purchase.

Depending on response to this offer, we may off a 2nd chance at the Revelation of John alternate border cards in Oct of 2018.

I really like that this gives an opportunity to get AB for people who can't attend Nationals (or couldn't get as much as they wanted at Nats) while still keeping the AB cards special due to the limited window of availability.  8)

I'm really disappointed with the timing of this news release.  It didn't give people who made a serious investment in coming to the national tournament enough time to sell product they bought to recoup some of their spent finances.  People at nats also didn't know this was coming. I personally wouldn't have invested the 240.00 dollars I did buying packs had I known a second run would be offered cutting the value of packs I was buying.

I took 4 unpaid days off work and spent near 300.00 dollars to make the trip, plus 240.00 on AB RoJ packs.  Part of my justification for investing this money to my wife was that I would be able to make a decent profit on the RoJ AB cards to off set some of the cost.

Never have I felt like redemption has been a huge money maker for Cactus and I hope they make money with this release, but it really stinks for those of us who were attempting to recoup some value.

To be fair, unless there is a lot of behind the scenes dealing, I haven't seen much going on this year.  It seems like I'm seeing a lot being offered but not very much being purchased, including the stuff from Nationals.

The singles market has been active--full set market so much.

That's because lots of people had my plan. The market was already flooded and now it's weakened on top of being flooded.

I agree with this assessment!  I know I was one of the people who bought a complete set last year, but decided it was cheaper to buy the full amount of packs and trade for missing cards.  That probably didn't help the market either.  All of that being said, the only way to guarantee a full set is to purchase it.  When I bought my first 3 boxes of RoJ cards I was still missing 7 cards including 2 commons!

Any word on if RoJ AB boxes will be made available this fall?
