Title: The Angel Under the Oak - 2012 Redemption March Madness Hero Champion!
Post by: Bryon on March 29, 2012, 02:32:53 AM
Many players expected him to win from the beginning, so it isn't much of a surprise, but this is the official announcement:

The Angel Under the Oak defeated Joseph as the 2012 Redemption March Madness Champion!

Will he repeat as champion next year or will another hero claim the title?  Will he even win his own brigade next year?  Not much can be assumed without knowledge of the new cards releasing this summer, but when has that ever stopped players from guessing?  Let the speculation begin!

Last year's winner, Susanna, didn't win her brigade this year.  But she lost to a hero who is even older than she is!

Will a meta shift mean that a hero like The Strong Angel or Captain of the Host roars back to the top of silver?  Or will a newcomer take the top spot?  Is silver even getting a new hero this year?  Guess away!  :)

It saddens me that some of the "best" heroes considered are mainly drawing

Yes, it is sad. Speed decks are not fun to play with or against IMO. Hopefully, AUTO will be less successful next year because of the diminished power of speed decks, but I doubt it.

PS, just had a card idea: "When opponent draws or searches for a card by a special ability, except on this card, you may draw 2."

So, you just want a more powerful Gifts of the Magi?  Also that would make Mayhem ridiculous as it would automatically mean you'd draw up to 16 off any mayhem (including your own)

I'm partial to cards being removed from the game when drawn myself...your deck gets smaller but all of your pretty cards go away to the nether...and require a dominant to be discarded to get rid of...yes, I know, I'm being silly...

I told you I just had the idea. I didn't have time to polish it up. But basically yes, a Gifts x2. Maybe not an artifact though. Anyway, WAY off topic.

If people run both that and Gifts, even a d1 will turn into a 16 card hand for both players (if they choose to draw) if they each have a different one up.

Here is the problem I've always seen with speed.

Most counters fail because speed will finish drawing before you draw your counter. What if we play with the concept used in Legion a bit, and create counters that you can use multiple copies in your deck? That way, you have a much higher chance of drawing it early and shutting down their drawing... without abusing drawing yourself.

This is why the practical solution to speed is NOT counter-cards, but rather game rules.  I think the new ones will help some.  I wouldn't mind adding some others, but we'll have to wait for a while to see how much they are needed in the future.

Just throwing an idea out, what if on the initial D8, both players were allowed to select ONE card from their deck, shuffle, then d7?

That could add a HUGE amount of strategy to the first turn of the game. Would you grab a powerful offensive card, or a powerful defensive counter? SoG, or FA?

If you just print more speed cards you'll be able to draw your counters faster.

Not sure if i should + 1 because I laughed for real, or -1 because I don't want more speed.

I'll just +/- 1.

I really liked this idea: http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/new-card-ideas/battlefields/ (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/new-card-ideas/battlefields/)

I think that this could really help by getting out Nazzy or RBD out first turn.

I guess it's a good thing that Oak Angel is a lot more than "mainly drawing" then, isn't it?

If we voted on just drawing, Sam would've won. He should've won anyway.
