Which is the better Redemption hero?
-
Is this really even close?
-
It scared me this morning when they were tied. I predicted Thad to win.
-
But this isn't "by themselves." We wouldn't have MMoJ winning either.
-
Thaddeus really isn't that good...
-
Thadds only problem is that outside of a disciples deck he is useless. John has many different decks that he would be useful in and the preventing ability has really hurt me when I don't have much defense.

agreed. james banded to john, tgt, soo much for john. Thad only has disciples

Actually I think it is good to look at them "by themselves" as well and take that into account. In which case John totally wins this.
Like the people above me said, John is just awesome in a lot more kinds of decks. Thad is a 1-trick pony.
-
he is more of a Horse then a Pony lol

Agreed. Or maybe an Elephant. He's slow at first, but once he gets going, not much is going to stop him.
-
That's some trick. The irony of all this is that John helps Thad out.
-
This is an interesting matchup. We have one Hero who is clearly better in T1 decks (John) and one who is clearly better in T2 decks (Thad). So I'm guessing most of the votes are going by which category you play mostly. Of course, Thad is ahead by 10...and I know there are more T1 players out there.

This is an example of efficient marketing. Strong players have stated that Thaddeus is very good, giving Thaddeus the illusion of power. Many players have asserted that Thaddeus is broken. Many players use disciples. Therefore, many people assume that Thaddeus is better (and he's not in my opinion, even know I have called Thaddeus broken before).
-
I'm playing primarily T2, so Thad is better. I do use John in T1 more, but I still think Thad is, overall, the better hero.
-
But Thad without his entourage is just Thad, John is always awesome...
-
But Thad with his entourage is WAY more awesome than John. And especially in a T2 deck, it is not hard for the entire entourage to pop up.
-
I voted for John beings I don't want Thad to win it all.
-
The other thing is that John has stood the test of time. Sure Thad is the flavor of the month, but after some counters come out in the next set or two he won't be nearly as powerful. John has been uber forever, and I predict that he will be for a lot longer than Thad.
-
Maybe next year John will win the same match up. Thad is strong this year.
-
I think the very fact that they're printing counters to Thad shows his awesomeness.

I really liked the Disciples article on James the Less last June. I enjoyed reading on the reasoning for making his card the way it is. I'd REALLY like to read up on the reasoning for all the Disciples, Thad especially. From reading the Bible, you really don't hear much about him or some of the other disciples. (For example, why does Simon the Zealot discard Rome? Why is Philip immune to Greeks?) But I'm super curious on WHY Thad got his ability.
I don't know where to post this question, so I thought I'd try it here... Maybe some playtesters have some insight they'd share?
-
I believe in the "New Card Ideas" thread they explain it well. He was absolutely awful, and they decided to expand his ability last moment, and they didn't get a chance to playtest it.

Read up on Zealots for Simon the Zealot.

I read that, but I still don't know why they chose his ability to be the Biblical/historical representation of who he was. Is there something on Thad in the Bible that I haven't read?

Thaddeus is the same person as Jude, and he is the patron saint of lost causes. He could have had a much cooler SA based on this fact, considering everything having to do with St. Jude is awesome (listen to (*fin) by Anberlin if you don't believe me).
-
Since there is not a whole lot known with certainty about Thad other than the fact that he was a disciple, it was decided to make Thad work well together with James the Less. Since James the less uses an X or less, we thought we'd put one on Thad, too. James had an X-or-less Paper (negate) ability, and Thad got the X-or-less Rock (protect) ability.
Many scholars do believe that Thad was the same person as Jude, but that is not known with certainty. I like that "lost causes" idea for Jude, though. I'm making a note of that right now. :)
-
A good example of a lost cause: Trying to beat Thad.

So, in redemption gameplay terms, are these the same person?

Simon was a Zealot (opposition to Rome's occupation). Originally he discarded a Roman, but he was changed to discarding Rome instead.
