Title: Rd 2 Teal (2. Ahimaaz Versus 3. Phinehas, Son of Eleazar)
Post by: jbeers285 on March 16, 2014, 02:12:00 PM
2. Ahimaaz
4/2 Teal (Tabernacle High Priest, House of Eleazar)
Protect this hero from capture. You may look at an opponent's hand or face down cards on a site. You may then withdraw hero from the battle unharmed.

Versus

3. Phinehas , Son of Eleazar
Teal 12/8 (WC) (Tabernacle High Priest, House of Eleazar)
Protect this Hero from capture and conversion. Protect heroes in your territory and set a-side from discard abilities.

Both protected from capture, but Ahimaaz is great for the look at hand and better initiative.  That does it for me.

This is tough, but I'm going Phineas for two reasons: He protects heroes on territory from discard, and the advantages listed for Ahimaaz by Redoubter are covered by U&T and Zeal's (CBN) interrupt.

Phinehas is better and it's not even close

The protection from discard is only in territory, which isn't as helpful, and the other things you talk about require more cards to pull off with Phineas (and only once in the case of Zeal), which is why Ahimaaz by himself is just that much more powerful to me.

My opinion is that Phinehas doesn't need initiative when he has CBN Zeal. :P

Which is just once (T1), sadly, and there is a distinct lack of interrupt beyond that in Teal, which is what is influencing my position.

I'd take an extra card and an admittedly one-use CBN interrupt battlewinner over one less card used and numbers. Especially since U&T doesn't even waste your artifact slot.

The problem with initiative in Teal is that there isn't a whole lot Ahimaaz can do with it.  Trumpet Blast is negatable unless Ram's Horn is active; you're better off using Jordan Interrupted/Eli's Sound Advice on Joshua to lead into TB.  Jehoida's Strength is also good, but is also negatable, and isn't that great if all your heroes are Teal.
