Which is the better EC?
Abimelech [RoA2]
Astrologers [Thesaurus]

How is Abimelech not winning this?

Because Astrologers is used in more decks by more people, and they have more experience with them. They can also recur Invoking Terror (among other nastiness) to force a territory discard.
Abimelech, on the whole, is a better character, but not everyone uses his themes. He also makes an amazing hero ;)

Ahimelech is on the whole the better character and he doesn't have a theme. He can use plot, either Gib Trick, and can discard ECs if you block with him and then use something like UW or CM or MC. He should be killing Astrologers.

I have to agree with Redoubter.
I think maybe Astrologers is winning because we are voting for the better EC and Abimelech is the better hero. Even when he never gets converted, Abimelech is one of my best heros.

Well, he actually is a better EC, too. As pointed out, he can use a lot of great enhancements, works with a couple of themes, and can also get rid of pesky artifacts.
I've used him to blow up a site, Gib Trick (he gets initiative a lot), and then blow up KotW. No more site lock, no more EC, opens up the way for my offense. Even if you don't throw Gideon in to activate his first ability, he gets initiative, has a lot of enhancement support, and can discard evil cards for you.
Problem is more people throw in Astrologers in their decks, and they find Invoking Terror too much fun not to vote for them. Not that I can fault them.

The only problem with Abim is getting Gideon dead.
-
I frequently discard Gideon from hand so I can use Abim to knock out their Chariots, etc.
The flexibility of discarding their Broken Cisterns, Gates, Tower of Thebez, Curse, Character, etc. is great. Its like half an A-bomb that is easier to get out.

That's not even the good part of his ability.

I actually like blowing up the artifact or site more, but yes, being able to discard any evil card just because you played Gib Trick (either one) or a bunch of other cards makes him a whole lot of awesome.

Whenever I play with Abby, I always get him long before my Gideon is gone and my opponent only attacks with weak people! Astro, though, is so great, I can't believe it! He goes with Assyrians,Magicians, and Babylonians! Astro-Boy all the way!

Discard Gideon from hand. Prof Oak searches the discard pile so you can get him if you need him.
-
I mean, I get either Gideon or Abimalech, but I almost never get Abby while I still have Giddy in my hand or I never get Abby while Giddy is in my discard.

The problem is that only really works if your opponent is playing a defense. If they're playing a standalone or any small defense and not laying down characters, the best you're going to do is manage to discard something like RBD or a card placed in your territory. Astrologers' recursion of Invoking Terror meanwhile, is brutal, especially in T2, when you can get it off multiple times.
