I'm convinced I should play Redemption. Now what?

Redemption looks like a great game! It’s good to see a community around it that not only thinks it’s one of the best of its kind but is also full of people of all ages that are genuinely helpful and caring.

So, I’m convinced that I want to get into playing Redemption. But now what steps do I take to do that and get the most out of it?

Get some starter decks and begin playing IRL as well. Just having the cards to show people will peak interest and likely get people to buy in as well.

A couple years ago was when I first heard about the game, I got the 4th edition starter decks. I forget how I even heard about the game.. But then I was able to buy a nice copy of the 3rd edition starter decks, which I think are my favorite starter decks of the old ones. And I got a separate lot of cards, too, and I'm lucky enough to have more copies of all the old starter decks in there :)

I do wish I knew about the game way back when those old starter decks were coming out. I'm old enough to have missed the boat, but maybe there will be some youngsters in my life that I can share it with.

Once you are ready to start building a collection, buy CoW packs first.  They've got the newest/greatest cards right now - definitely a value play as well, based on prices of the individual cards.  Plus you get a bunch of older cards that might land you some solid cards from past expansions.

TEC packs are also a great buy, because you get 3 FooF and 3 RoA cards with each TEC pack.

Keep an eye out on the Trading board as well.  From time to time, players want to sell their collections.  These get you the best "bang for your buck" in terms of buying cards.  But you can never predict when players will want to sell.  And some collections are valuable enough to warrant high prices.  Still, if you can pick one up, this is the best way to jump-start a collection.  You'll spend so much less in the long run if you can grab one of these.

You can also post what you are looking for on the Trading boards and ask for offers to sell you cards.  FooF/RoA cards flooded the market with the TEC expansion, so you can probably pick up complete sets of these on the cheap.  And these cards are recent enough that many can be used in competitive decks.  I know that I personally have a massive pile of FooF/RoA cards that I need to sort or sell.  Just make a thread saying "I want X, Y, and Z.  Please PM me your offers to sell me any/all of these" or something like that.

I would avoid buying packs of anything Priests or older for now.  Most of the cards are not playable, and you'll be better served buying individual cards from Three Lions Gaming from those expansions.

And I agree with kariusvega - download Lackey and start playing online!

I have no idea. About the play group, that is :) I'm in Michigan. Just poke the center of your right palm to find me!

I would also recommend for people not to use abbreviations for names =]

If I just got started I would have NO idea what you are talking about.

Example CoW stands for Cloud of Witnesses.  ;)
Meanwhile in Iowa...
