Round 1 of Nationals I was playing against Minister Polarius and another younger player from TN.
Pol took the first turn and puts down Ends of the Earth (RoJ). Obviously an amazing card for Booster Draft, but I was grinning inside as I had an opening hand Emperor Caius Caligula (TEC) and was thinking I would be able to discard it and limit the advantage it would give Pol.
Much to my dismay, Pol attacks with Swift...the 9/9 angel from Angel Wars that protects his Sites from discard and banish... :doh: WHY AM I BEING FOILED BY AN ANGEL WARS CARD!?!?!?!
I block with Caligula and drop Romans Destroy Jerusalem to defeat Swift. Next turn he attacks me again and uses Ends on himself to pick up Symbols of the Levites. I again block with Caligula to discard Ends, but unfortunately Ends is CBI. Later in the battle, he is able to use Symbols to negate Caligula and once again his Ends is saved...and this time Caligula is defeated... :giveup:
Ironically, in the "end" I actually benefited the most, as the other player had Hero drought and I was able to successfully rescue 5 souls from Pol (since he used Ends on himself most turns), and never had to attack the other player (who had a massive defense). 8)
