Title: Question about Battle Challenges
Post by: The1991Matt on August 13, 2015, 06:32:35 PM
If you aren't playing with the optional advanced rule regarding Experience credit, is there really ay benefit to issuing a Battle Challenge? Anyone I play against simply declines them every time. What's the point then?

Well, in Type 1, there are several characters who can actually create a rescue attempt for you (http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Barnabas_(TEC)).  Otherwise, you may hope they block so that you can play a card that creates a soul.

Otherwise, they can be very useful to draw or to choose a blocker so that you can defeat evil characters and remove your opponent's resources before an actual rescue attempt.

Ah, so potentially you might begin a battle challenge and if somehow a Lost Soul is made available during a battle challenge it changes into a rescue attempt? (Providing you are playing as a good character)? if so, why would people not always decline battle challenges with so much risk? Would they gamble it in the hopes of using their own enhancements and such to their advantage? It still seems like most people will continue to decline the challenge.

There's not much strategic advantage to accepting a battle challenge. There are certain Heroes you definitely don't want to activate over and over, like Gabriel (Wa).

Well For example : if a player has any hero abilities that search deck for a certain card or an ability that draws cards , then I think it would be useful to go for a battle challenge with that hero especially if your opponent will not accept it. Therefore you get to activate the ability without the risk of losing your hero :)

Yes. You usually have much more to gain than lose when you attack, unless they have some sort of disruptive defense, (Great Image, Abomination, Deck discard, etc) then I would not hesitate to battle challenge, especially for drawing.

Basically any hero that causes you to lose cards is a hero that I would block in a battle challenge (Simeon {blue}, Gabriel, Warrior's spear hero, etc). Also, if I have King o' Tyrus I will usually block any battle challenge. ;)
