Title: November 2018 redemption cards????? from Nationals video
Post by: redemption collector 777 on August 03, 2018, 01:14:29 PM
One of the videos from this years nationals matches had a piece of paper that says "November 2018" and had pictures of 2 different cards and a box art.

I was not able to read the paper because the video quality made it very fuzzy and not able to read it.

Does anyone know what this is about??

Are we getting a whole new card set in November???

I would really like to know.

Anyone know what this is about??

Yep. It’s called Prophecies of Christ. It will be a two-part expansion, this one in November (129 cards) and the other part in May (approx. 93 cards). It will add a new symbol/ability that’s the Star of David (Star symbol). It will allow you to do certain things in your opening hand only.

  I just hope Redemption doesn't become a 2 set a year game.  I can't afford that lol.

2 sets a year might be a good thing for the game though.   Seems like Redemption is starting to catch up with the other CCGs out there in certain areas which I think is a good thing.

It's one set being released in two parts. This helps by keeping the game active in the fall when there hasn't been anything major going on. It also gives players more time to learn and adapt to the new cards before the State, Regional and National tournaments.

Expect the poster use at Nationals to appear on Land of Redemption soon.

Great idea! I hope this becomes the norm going forward.

Regarding the new set, we couldn't have a Star of David symbol without an ultimate, 4-brigade King David that's not a set up character but the ultimate battle-winning Hero, right??  ;)

Why not include other scenarios such as it was the last card in your hand when played, no other cards in hand, only card in hand, or the card was just drawn. It being structured to be activated only during the only hand is very limited.

I think more players would have more fun and uses if the conditions were more wide rather than narrow. Triggering just one game if it ever happened to be in your opening hand doesn't seem viable.

If there's no way to manipulate star cards and their only use is to hope you randomly draw them in your opener I'm not a fan. I don't see how the game benefits from a mechanic that, based purely on luck, puts one player ahead of the other right off the bat. I'm hoping to see other cards that have ways of activating star abilities during the game (a Fort that lets them activate when drawn on any turn, a Hero that activates star abilities of all enhancements played on him, etc).

First, there's already a handful of cards that, based purely on luck, place one player ahead of the other from the start of the game.  See IaC, AUTO, Samuel, Mayhem, etc.

Second, the playtesters are very aware of the power of getting Lawless, Darkness, and/or Prosperity with your opening draw.  You can expect Star abilities to be weaker than these - as in, any Star ability that is a consistent + 1 to your hand size will be considered too powerful.

Third, I agree with the idea of making a few cards that can activate Star abilities.  But I don't see this as necessary.

Think of it this way:  The 129 new cards will still be 129 new cards.  Some of them will happen to do something if they are in your starting hand.  That "something" that they do won't be terribly strong, but hopefully can add depth to the game and strategy to deckbuilding.

Those are all cards you can build your deck around getting turn 1. The reason I brought up concern for star cards is not because I think they will be too strong (I haven't seen them so I can't have an opinion on that yet) but because there is literally nothing you can do as a deck builder to influence how effective they are. You just have them in your deck and hope you draw them.

I think it is more likely that you will have these cards in decks for reasons other than the star ability, but that if you happen to draw them opening hand, something cool happens.  I am guessing their normal ability will still be very useful though.

I think the intent is to keep balance in the game, which is good.  I think events are more fun when you experience a variety of decks...not just Throne, Throne, Throne, Throne, wait...Flood Survivors?, Throne.  ;)

I actually like the new Moses and am looking forward to using him where he doesn’t negate everything.
