Title: NEEDED: Old Field of Play and Diagram of a Turn cards
Post by: Watchman on May 01, 2017, 08:55:54 AM
Hey guys,

I'd like to get my hands on as many of these cards from the G/H starter decks as I can so it makes it  easier for new players to remember how the field of play is set up and the different things one can do on his turn. I know they're a bit outdated as they don't have territory class but TC can easily be remembered. A lot of newer players I've come across really like the card as it's helped them greatly.

If you guys have any of these cards lying around, and you'd like to donate them to the cause of helping new players please reply on this thread. After about a week I'll send those who reply my mailing address via private message.

Thanks in advance!

Derek

Hey man I'm going to just make a print able version that fits on a 8 1/2 x 11 for everybody. I'll post it today. Would have been great for teaching at the home school convention

By the way, there are diagrams and turn outlines in this 4th edition rule book available on Land of Redemption

http://landofredemption.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/rules_4th_edition_final.pdf (http://landofredemption.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/rules_4th_edition_final.pdf) This was the best rule resource we could provide there, but I know which one you are talking about and it is really helpful. Maybe just print copies of it?

That's even better.  Thanks, JD.  If it's something you can edit maybe we can add in territory-class as well, and anything else that might be missing, such as specify the player can remove a character from a fortress (not just add them to a fortress) and healing enhs played during prep phase.

Thanks sir!

Hey so here is a little mock up of what technical information could be on the sheet

If we're happy with what this has on it, I can prettify it :)

Hey this looks great, JD! Definitely more detailed than the original card.

Could we fit in the Discard phase that an artifact can be placed faced down? Also, see if you can add in prep and discard phase that healing enhs can be played. Also, I like how on the original Field of Play illustration how Set-Aside and LoR is showing to be Out of Play. Anyway we can fit that back in? Maybe shrink the card anatomy picture down some to accommodate.

Small typo: at the top change to "Both players draw 8 cards".

Thanks for doing this!

Derek

You might want to consider adding all the new stuff with the reserve.

Good point but since this is geared to new players this is just an intro into the game's basic mechanics. The Reserve is more advanced and can be explained to someone by an experienced player or they can read about it in the REG if they want to delve deeper into the game. The Reserve is really more for tournament than casual play anyways.

Yeah but anybody who plays this and likes it is not going to just be a casual player for a long 😀

Correct but by then they are going to most likely read up on the REG to learn more of the intricacies of game play, and/or have met an experienced player who can explain the Reserve to the player. This card is for entry-level players who need to remember the basic anatomies of play, turns, and territory set up.

not a huge deal, but it is missing the evil dominant icon.

Let me know how this looks from a technical side guys! If you're happy with it also let me know what format would be best. Currently it is an image format, but perhaps an editable document could serve you better ?

The changes up top look good. Instead of the sidebar you added on the left for Out of Play I think it would look best with the picture from the card of the Out of Play area on the right. With the evil dominant symbol missing do you think it would be better to remove the symbol bar at the bottom altogether?

Do you have a copy of the original one? I don't have one, but I am trying to find it

I'm planning to make it pretty by removing the gray border(way more ink efficient) and adding higher resolution icons along with the evil dom icon

I already know this will serve as a great resource to newer players!! When I first came back to the game it was a big help to have that phase list

I'd have to scan it and email it to you but in the mean time I have a photo of one I took. PM me your email address and I'll get the pic to you.

It's uploaded here!

This really helped me a ton having an outline of a turn in front of me when I first came back to the game!

Thanks!  This was perfect for our games last night.  My daughter who is 10 loved it.  Now my 8 yr old son said, "ah man, I hate reading." lol  And he also said that because it had Peter on it he didn't like it... ::)  I play with that deck, so he hates it when I draw Peter.  In all seriousness, thanks again this is great!  Looking forward to getting some color copies printed and laminated for the playgroup.

I just wanted to recognize JD and send him a special thank you, on behalf of the Redemption community, for creating this document! He was a pleasure to work with and is very efficient and passionate in what he does. New players will have him to thank instead of them struggling to remember the basics of the game!

Unfortunately he has already been disqualified for that award due to his use of the "Mayhem delenda est" T2 deck...  :police:
