Title: Looking to start this up in our church
Post by: Adevine on April 18, 2017, 06:47:29 AM
I am the Pastor at our small rural church.  We have about 20+ kids right now that love coming and they enjoy pokemon.  So I thought I would see about getting a redemption program running at the church for them to play once a month or so and we can just have fun and discuss life.  A lot of these kids come from VERY broken homes so our church is kinda all the family they have.  So I was wondering what would be a good way to get something like this started?  I know I will need several starter packs.  But for additional cards I am thinking of trying to find just a bulk box or something to purchase to help get them started and then give them a free "new" pack of cloud, Early church, or Revelation each month... has anyone done this before because any ideas are welcome.

I am just now getting back into the game myself, so it will be just a while but I am really praying this would be an opportunity for us to minister to these kids.

Thanks!

There are a few articles on Land of Redemption from play group leaders that will hopefully give you some good insight.

Whereabouts are you? I thought I remembered seeing East Central region on your profile but now it says North Central. Connecting with an established playgroup can also be very helpful (i.e. you can visit the other playgroup and get ideas on how to run a game night or a tournament).

Well, I am honestly not sure what area I am in...LOL  It is kinda in between...mainly the Northwestern KY near Evansville, IN area.  So if that is a different region please let me know.  I would love to be able to join up with some fellow redemption people.

Andy,

So the guy that just replied (kariusvega) is JD and he is in (or around Nashville).  Jonesy or Brian Jones is in Jackson KY, and works at a private school that has several players.  I'm still in Knoxville, and uthminister
is Travis Brown and he is in Franklin OH.  So you are surrounded by several players and groups, just not sure of any that are less than a couple of hours drive away!

Obviously Nashville is closest being 2 hours from our home, while the others are about 4 hours.  Anyone know if there are any in the Indiana area?

Just wanted to update this.  I talked with several of the older kids and youth tonight at church about Redemption and they loved the idea of getting together and playing the game.  Plus they all love Pokemon so they should pick up on this game real easy.  One of them even liked the idea of this game being based off the Bible over his pokemon cards.  So far I have 6 total kids/youth (two of which are mine) who are VERY interested in the game.  Once I get a handle on the game over the next few weeks I will definitely be pursuing this playgroup because I believe it will be wonderful ministry for me and the church to be involved with the kids in.   ;D
