Title: Interesting Fact
Post by: Minister Polarius on May 19, 2009, 12:36:54 AM
Despite the fact that Purple is the Brigade of Royalty, there were no actual Kings in Purple until Warriors, and even then only King Saul. Then there were no Kings in Apostles, and only Melchizedek in Patriarchs. Only in the most recent sets and in Kings (even then surprisingly few) has there been much in the way of Purple Kings.

Purple did have [Queen] Esther and [Prince] Jonathan in the early expansions, though when David was printed in Warriors, he was either green or red.  However, I think King David (the promo) was released around the time of Patriarchs, though his crony, King Solomon, was back to gold.

The Women expansion had Bathsheba, King's Daughter, Pharaoh's Daughter, and Queen of Sheba.

That said, this is not really surprising, many themes were spread out across brigades until about Kings when they started to coalesce more.  The Apostles are still far too spread out to be a themed offense worthy of their historical import.

That is an excellent point about the apostles.  I expected them all to be be purple, not because they were kings, but because of the authority that Christ gave to them.  It is sad that there are no "Apostles" decks out there that can compete, and sadder still that some of the Apostles have no special abilities whatsoever, in my opinion.

That's not just an opinion.  There's no text at all on many of them.
