Title: Imposter Designation
Post by: egilkinc on April 18, 2018, 02:12:31 PM
An idea born out of the spoof set thread:

Here's an idea with potential - what imposters were there in the Bible?
- False Prophet
- Sarah (pretended to be Abraham's sister)
- Red Dragon (Rev 12:9)
- Jacob (pretended to be Esau)
- Leah (pretended to be Rachel)
- Woman of Tekoa (2 Sam 14, pretended to be woman in mourning)
- Jeroboam's Wife (1 Kings 14)
- False Apostles (2 Corinthians 11:13)
- Tamar (Genesis 38, pretended to be a harlot)

Maybe it should be limited to Humans who pretend to be someone else - not just those who seek to deceive. Maybe this wouldn't even include those who disguised themselves like King Saul, Joseph, or Jeroboam's Wife or who were mistaken for other people like Jehosaphat (1 Kings 22)

Who else can you think of who was an imposter?

David pretended to be a lunatic when he sought refuge with the Philistines.

There are a couple prophets who pretended to be someone else... from memory I think it's an unnamed prophet related to the Split Altar story and there a story related either Elijah or Elisha and a prophet dressed up as a wounded man along the side of the road.

Peter pretended NOT to be a disciple.
