Title: How do you rank the FoM Ultra-rares?
Post by: The Guardian on May 31, 2018, 04:58:29 PM
Just curious what people's thoughts are on the desirability of the new URs.

Is there one you would rather have more than the other two? Would you trade them straight up? If you could pick which one you would pull from a box, which one would it be?

For me I have them ranked like this:

1. Wages of Sin
2. Fall of Man
3. Babel

That is mostly based on experience playtesting and a little on game theorizing. I think Fall of Man and Babel are close enough that I would probably trade 1 for 1 (i.e. I had 2 copies of FoM and didn't have Babel), but I think Wages is going to prove the most valuable. That being said, Babel could be a game-changer in MP...I'm very intrigued to see how many people start using it.  8)

Ironically, I've opened 2 boxes and gotten FoM and Babel...and two copies of the Patriarchs Wages of Sin...such a tease... ::)

Immediately after all three were announced, my brother and I made a wager. He thought Wages was the best of the URs. I, enamored with Babel at the time, thought differently. Whoever's pick is worth more on TLG by the time NC regionals rolls around owes the other a FoM pack. I am no longer hopeful of my chances.

For what it’s worth I have (Your Turn Games pricing) Babel and The Fall of Man currently valued the same at $40 but Wages of Sin a little bit higher at $50. I feel Wages is more versatile in regards to being a battle-winning card

I'm pretty certain Wages is the best of the three by a wide margin while the other two will have to be determined by playtesting. IMO Babel will always end up being somewhat good and see play in something while FoM has a higher power ceiling if someone finds a way to make it perform but it easily could end up seeing little to no competitive play at all.

I agree Wages is very good at face. These UR will develop throughout each meta.

FoM really fits into certain kinds of decks that aren't as straight forward. If we had counters which began in play it would be even more practical to play control decks. It is a curse so super squishy and can be stolen by Abes Desc.

Babel is the softest and as a site and city potentially benefits your opponent as much as you.. so that's my current rank generally speaking

Wages
FoM
Babel

This may be ot but Rubble & Dust is much more valuable, also adds value to Wages. Equip rule changing hurts warrior class more and makes Wages and R&D more volatile. Generally speaking speed gives you power because you get doms. Acute dom control still seems insufficient vs speed.. arrest was great 2015 because it was difficult to negate once setup. So far that was the coolest control deck I've seen ;)

How you like your chances now?  ;)
