Title: Hi, New player! Have some questions :)
Post by: Bap7 on June 11, 2009, 01:58:55 PM
Hi, I just got the Redemption starter deck and am curious about a few things.

1. you can't do a battle challenge unless the Hero your challenging with is in your territory right?

2. Why would you set aside a card in set-aside area?

3. Is there anything that beats SoG?

4. If you Capture a character does it HAVE to go to your Land of Redemption?

5. What are the best booster packs to start adding to my deck?

If I think of more I'll post  ;)
BTW my starter decks are E and F.

Godbless,
Bap7

Welcome to the boards!

1. You can battle challenge with a character from your territory or your hand.
2. Set-asides normally do something to improve the character.  Increase his numbers, add a special ability, etc.
3. No.
4. Captured characters would go to your Land of Bondage, not Land of Redemption.  There are some cards that make them go other places, but under normal circumstances, it goes to your Land of Bondage.
5. That depends on what you're trying to do with your deck.  What color(s) do you want to play?

3.  Yes, Altar of Ahaz "prevents" SoG

A couple additions to what has already been said... First of all; WELCOME TO THE REDEMPTION BOARDS!!! As for you questions. There are a few things that can slow down Son of God and even discard Son of God, so it is by no means a card you can always play without problem. There are even Lost Souls that cannot be targeted by SoG. Also, when you set aside a character, the abilities gained in set aside cannot be negated which is the major advantage to setting cards aside. The idea is to set things aside when you have plenty of other characters to fill in for them while they are gone. Keep the questions coming as they arise...

Thank you for posting so quickly!   ;D
I just remembered some others I have :)

1. Does your hero have to be in your territory to start a rescue attempt?

2. what does the alter of ahaz do?

3. Are the angels good cards to build a deck around?

Thx.

1. Territory or hand.

2. It prevents Lost souls from being rescued by Dominants (aka Son of God and New Jerusalem)

3. They can be, the bigger thing is to pick them and then work ahrd to make your deck with them good.

1.again like the battle challenge it can be done from your territory or your hand
2. Altar of Ahaz protects all lost souls form being rescued by a dominant

Angels are a very good start, and a lot of people start redemption by building angel decks.  My first deck was an angel/ gray deck.  Some of the cards necessary for a good angel offense like Michael, Captain and The Strong angel can be more expensive, but not too costly.  Infact, compared to other CCG, Redemption is pretty cheap.

So start with angels and as you play, you will likely move into other brigades as well.

Then Why do you put hero's and demons in your territory? ???
Title: Re: Hi, New player! Have some questions :)

Because you can only have 8 cards in your hand at the end of your turn.  And characters that enter battle from hand and survive return to territory.

Ohhhhhh ok ;D I get it :) Thanks!
Do you know anybody on the boards who sell single cards?
Also, do you have to say which LS your going after?
And once someone lays a Dominant do get a chance to stop it ???

There are several people on the boards who sell singles - check the Market.  You can also buy singles from www.threelionsgaming.com (http://www.threelionsgaming.com).

Also, do you have to say which LS your going after?

There is an advanced rule called Rescuer's Choice where you do that, but under normal play (Type 1), it isn't used.

Quote
And once someone lays a Dominant do get a chance to stop it

Once a dominant has been played, it takes effect and can't be negated.  Unless the dominant ends the game, you could respond to it with something else (heal a discarded character, play Harvest Time to pull out another LS, etc.), but you can't stop it.

Thanks to everyone for your input :D I have found it very helpful.
One other thing I would like to know is, What do you think are must cards in most decks ???
Also, When your immune to the brigade your opponent is using in battle does that mean I just won?
Title: Re: Hi, New player! Have some questions :)
Post by: uthminister [BR] on June 11, 2009, 10:03:09 PM
There are lots of differing opinions on must cards, but I would say that the must dominants are as follows

1. Son of God
2. New Jerusalem
3. Angel of the Lord
4. Christian Martyr
5. Destruction of Nehushtan
6. Falling Away
7. Guardian of Your Souls

As for immunity, it simply means that your opponent has unlimited initiative to play cards, they just cannot target the character that is immune. Therefore they can play all the cards they want that target your territory, draw/discard pile, characters in your territory or battle that are not immune, etc... They cannot however beat the card that is immune unless they can interrupt that immunity and do something to get rid of it.

What does DoN do?
When is the battle resolved when your immune to your opponents character(s) ???

You can also buy singles from www.threelionsgaming.com (http://www.threelionsgaming.com).
I went to their site and found card lists and some other stuff but can't find where to buy the cards at?

Go to the Store, and then click the proper tab on the very top of the page (Single Cards, Starter Decks, etc.). Those tabs are pretty hidden and hard to find; they're not placed in a good spot on the page. Once you find those, you're golden.

DoN: Discard one active Artifact in play. Artifact's ability is negated.

When is the battle resolved when your immune to your opponents character(s)

If you're defeating your opponent, when they decide not to play another enhancement.  If it's a stalemate, when 3 passes in a row happen.

Ok got some more questions ;D
What does in play mean?
Can AotL be played at any time?
Title: Re: Hi, New player! Have some questions :)
Post by: crustpope on June 14, 2009, 10:42:30 PM
1. In play is anything in the field of battle or in your territory.  These areas are not in Play: Land of Redemption, the D/C pile, Draw pile,  Set-Aside area, anything removed from the game, and anything that is facedown in territory or battle (ex: artifacts in the artifact pile, Facedown heroes in territory, Face down Evil Characters on sites, etc).  Everything else is in play

2. Yes....but it cannot always target the Evil character you want.  If evil characters in territory are protected by an evil fortress such as Pharoh's throne room, Playing AoTL on an egyptian in territory would be a waste of AOTL.  Also, AOTL cannot interrupt an enhancement.  If an evil character plays an enhancement, you have to wait until that enhancement is played.  That is why, when an evil character is presented in battle, the person who would have initiative usually says something like "Do you recognize my initiative?"  At that point, you may play Dom's including AOTL on an EC.  However, if you pass, and their little 2/3 Messenger of Satan plays confusion on your deck to d/c your SoG, you cannot negate that ability simply by playing AOTL.  You can play the dominant, after confusion completes its SA, and you will win the battle (provided they dont Martyr your hero) but you will still be one SOG short. ( that is why I always play with at least three in my deck ;) )

Yes, provided another card ability isn't in the process of completing.  For example, if I rescue with a Hero that causes you to discard a card from your hand you must discard the card first before you can play your dominant.  As soon as you've discarded you're free to play your dominant.

I hope you are kidding?  My understanding is that you can not play but 1 card of anything that has a special ability?  Is this not right?

Hahaha... I was going to comment on that earlier.  No you cannot have multiple cards with special abilities in a T1 deck.  T2 has different rules for deck building and you can have as many as 5 of the same card (but not Son of God).

Crustpope- seeing as this is a new player thread, it'd probably be best to save the sarcastic, but funny comments for another thread.

Good point.

Type 1 Deck building rules:
- 50 card minumum
- only one copy of any dominant (grim reaper or Lamb icon)
- only one copy of any LS, Hero, EC, or Site with a special ability (words on the picture)
- only one copy of any artifact or fortress
- up to 3 copies of any hero or EC without a Special ability (without words on the picture)
- 1 LS for every 7 cards above 56 (7 LS for the first 50-56 cards)

Type 2 Deck building rules:
- 100 card minimum
- only one copy of any dominant (grim reaper or Lamb icon)
- up to 5 copies of any Hero, EC, or Site with or without a special ability (words on the picture)
- up to 3 one copies of any artifact or fortress
- one copy of a LS with a Special Ability for every 50 cards (a 100-149 card deck can have only 2 copies of any soul with a SA.  a 150-199 card deck can have up to 3 copies of any soul with a SA)
- 1 LS for every 7 cards above 105 (14 LS for the first 100-105 cards)

And most importantly.... The number of good and evil cards MUST be exactly the same.

I am pretty sure this si correct but feel free to make any additions or changes to this list.

Thanks for all the advice and tips :)
Over the last few days I have been hardcore Redemtion playing ;D I bought the 10th anniversery gift set and a TON of booster packs 8) (I found them on sale) :P I also got one of my friends involved ;D We have stopped playing begginer play and have started playing Advanced play 8) We just have a few questions that we're not sure about :-\

1. When you stick a hero into a site to gain access to another site, can you take that hero out when your done?

2. Can you Battle Challenge with an Evil Character?

3. Can you NOT accept a Battle Challenge?

4. On a card called "Destruction of Babylon" it says "Discard a single color Lost Soul Site, and all evil cards guarding it. Lost Soul(s) remain in play." What I'm wondering is how do you protect a lost soulin a site? ??? Does it mean blocking Evil Characters or can you really put a Evil Character to guard it???
Title: Re: Hi, New player! Have some questions :)
Post by: RedemptionAggie on June 18, 2009, 02:23:23 PM
1. You don't stick a hero in a site to gain access, you just use it to gain access.
2. No.
3. Yes.
4. There are some cards that place Evil Characters on sites.  That's what it's talking about.

Just one addition to number 3.  If you declare a battle challenge with your hero his special ability activates no matter what.  Your opponent THEN has the option of accepting or declining the challenge.

How do you know what the main characteristics are of a brigade?
What do you think of a crimson splashed with orange defense would work?
Which goes better together for an offense, gold and red, gold and green or green and red???

How do you know what the main characteristics are of a brigade?
There's not really 'official' characteristics, though some do tend towards certain play types:
Hand discard: Blue, Gray
Deck discard: Evil Gold, Pale Green
Mass drawing: Green, Purple, Silver, Gray
Mass discard: Purple, Black
Banding: Red, Silver
By the Numbers: Silver, Evil Gold, maybe Crimson or Black
Capture: Gray, Pale Green, Crimson
Poison: Pale Green, Orange
Demons: Orange, maybe Crimson or Pale Green
Ignore: White, Purple

Quote

If you play demon heavy, sure.  Seven Sons, Fallen Angel, Possessing Demon, etc, are good for a demon defense.

Depends on what you want to do.  Bryon has a great resource on his site that lists the combos between brigades (http://redemptionca.com/Tips/brigadecombos.htm) (until Kings, anyways).  That's a good place to start.

Yeah, I know it does, but I don't see it used for capture all that often.  Discard, maybe (though not "mass" discard), but haven't seen the capture.  Eh, maybe I just haven't played the right people.  (Fixed).

Priests packs and certain Rock of Ages and Faith of our Fathers tins. :)

No normal characters, no. Sites are for taking access away from your opponent. A lost soul in a site can only be rescued by a hero of the same brigade as the site.
Title: Re: Hi, New player! Have some questions :)
Post by: uthminister [BR] on June 21, 2009, 12:45:21 AM
Actually that is not true about sites. You can use empty sites for access. Let's say that you have a lost soul in a teal site and I have blue heroes. I can put a blue hero in battle with my empty teal site to gain access to your lost soul in the teal site. You can only use empty sites in this way, so if you have put a lost soul on the teal site in your territory already then it is stuck on there until someone rescues that lost soul from the site. Make sense?

WillInmiami used to have one. I live up in davenport and YourMathTeacher lives in clermont(sp?).

As for Doms
Guardian of your souls = Apostles
Glory of the Lord = Kings
Harvest time = Warriors (good luck since those are retired)

The newest brigades are Teal (Good, Priests) and Orange (Evil, Demons).  I personally like Blue (Genesis) or Green (Prophets) on offense, and Gray (Romans, Syrians) on defense.

A covenant is a card that has the icon box half filled with the Artifact Icon and half filled with a good brigade color and a set of enhancement numbers.  COvenants can be used either as artifacts or as enhancements  depending upon whether you activate them on the artifact pile or whether you play them in battle.
