Can you DoN a Curse in play that is being used as an artifact?

Yes. Covenants and Curses active as Artifacts are treated as exactly that: Artifacts. They can thus be targeted/affected by abilities that specify Artifacts, and also by cards that specify Covenants/Curses (whichever they are). Covenants/Curses played as Enhancements, on the other hand, can instead be targeted as Covenants/Curses or Enhancements.

no because they are at face value, and at face value they are curses/covenants.

Yes if its owner is Discarding it to fulfill a cost. No of its opponent is targeting something in hand. In other words, you could Discard GiC from hand to meet Zimri's or Uzzah's requirement, but an opponent could not steal it with Taking Egypt's Wealth.
