Title: Child with Cancer
Post by: Alex_Olijar on December 30, 2010, 01:26:18 AM
Please play for Trey Mitlo, the 3 year son of a mentor of mine, Jay. He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in the hip (a more common version of cancer in children) on Christmas Eve after a month of problems with his hip. Jay is close to my heart in more ways to one. He was influencial in helping me become more vocal about sin and having a more confessional outlook on my life. He has served as a leader of Young Life and is currently a pastor at a church close to my home. He has a true gift for relationship ministry and is an excellent teacher. It hurts me to know what he must be going through now. He was also the subject of a short essay about a leader I wrote that helped me win a full-tuition scholarship for college.

Trey's treatment is on an approximately 13 month cycle. He recieved surgery earlier today and has 6 treatments of chemo, another surgery, and various other procedures ahead of him assuming all goes as planned.

A facebook group has started called "Pray for Trey Tuesdays (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_187906554560082#!/event.php?eid=186648151348014)". The idea is to try and get as many people praying for Trey at the specific time of 9pm on Tuesdays. Please feel free to join us.

Also, I ask, if you are praying, would you please repond here and let me know your location. Showing the man he is, Jay has asked that he knows where prayers are from in order that he can chart them on a map for his two older children (the oldest is 7 IIRC) in order to teach them some geography and, more important, a spiritual object lesson.

Thanks so much for your time. I hope to keep you updated as much as I can.

Thanks for the prayers. Trey is receiving a blood transfusion today and at last word, doing as well as expected. He has been a good spirits for a 3 year old, giggling and high fiving nurses.

Prayers from Hicksville, NY.

Alex, my one-yr-old nephew is currently on remission since Christmas eve from leukemia.

God is good and has plans for these kids.  I also was called for a white blood cell emergency donation New Year's day yesterday for a 3-yr-old girl at Columbia Presbyterian hospital in Manhattan -- they say she may live a few days more, but I pray she be blessed with more years to come.

If God so decides to make 'angels' of these kids, I also wholeheartedly accept it, though I would rather He make them living saints to save the world as adults.

Godbless.

Thanks for the support. Trey is at home now. Please pray that his weakened immune system won't succumb to any sickness. A common cold could be deadly at his age with a weakened immune system from his first work of chemo.

Thanks LN.

Trey should be at home for a couple weeks until the next section of Chemo. Here is a posting from Jay's Facebook page today:

Further revelations on life: Apparently life wasn't easy for us before any before any of this happened. Being in ministry and raising three kids is one thing. Now, add these present issues and it makes for long tiring days. We are so blessed to be working so well together, thank you for praying for Rachel and me. Lastly, please pray for Bella. Is she simply 5? Is she struggling to get back into the schedule of school after Christmas break? Is she feeling neglected? Is she worried about Trey? Either way, she is whining and complaining about EVERYTHING. Please pray that we would have wisdom and discernment as we parent through these new days. THANKS SO MUCH!!!

That must be so hard. Still praying every day. When one of my uncles had cancer his daughter acted up and complained about everything as well, and she was 5 alsol. I know how that is as we had to babysit them for a couple months, it's really hard on siblings and kids. Praying that the family can stand strong together as they face this trial together. :prayer:

Sorry to hear the news, man. That must be very difficult to handle with most likely some stress but you just got to believe that God will turn all bad things for good.
BTW: Are these people Christians and do they trust that God is helping in the situation?

Trey has been doing ok recently. Here are some specific things you could pray for:

1) Trey seems to be having some night terrors. Please pray that this subsides; it is very snowy in PA recently, and it would be hard on the family to have to drive to the hospital at night during a storm.

2) Improved Counts for Trey's Blood cells. Chemo will naturally kill some blood cells, so please pray that Trey's body replaces them properly and keeps his counts high and keeps making new cells.

EDIT: Just read a new message from Jay. The reality is starting to set in for him and his wife Rachel, as Trey's hair has started to fall out from the chemo. Let us ache and pray for them in this difficult time.
