(Skip to the final paragraph if you are not interested in my life (which is okay, because I probably wouldn't be :P).) Well, for those of you who aren't aware of my educational situation, here it is in a nutshell: When I was 3...Well, let's just skip to this year: I barely survived the first trimester of 10th grade in public school, and I was feeling depressed and was slipping in my grades and my social life was even worse than being alone, so I came back home to be homeschooled, where I thought I would be happier. However, I had already started two different AP classes (BC Calculus and US History), and my dad still wanted me to prepare to take those AP tests, as well as another one which my school did not offer (Biology). So, I spent December to March reading textbooks, and pretty much this whole last month doing practice AP tests and studying up on my weak(er) spots. You'd think a guy would be ready, huh? Well, I'm not. My concentration levels are lower than ever, and every time I take a practice test, I feel even less confident about myself than before. I seriously doubt I will meet my dad's expectations on the tests, and if I fail to do so, my chances of being able to go to nationals will be severely hurt.
So basically, I would really like God's guidance here. I have AP tests on the upcoming Wednesday, Friday, and Monday, and this is like the biggest moment of my life so far, and my gut tells me I'm going to fall on my face and disappoint my whole family. Please pray for me.

I'll be praying, and I'm sure you'll do fine. Although, you might want to study up on test taking strategies instead of the material before your tests, it helps a lot more than one may think.
I get to take some AP tests this week too. Woot.
-
I'll be praying,I hope you do good on your test(s).

Well, I just took the BC Calc test...pretty sure I totally failed, but I'll have to see. I'm expecting a 2, but it's possible I get up to a 4. Considering the number of questions I simply didn't answer, though, I'm pretty sure a 5 is out of the question.
If I get a 4 on this, then I guess that's a good thing, but honestly, I would be much more relieved to find out I got a 1 (is there even a 0?), because then I won't feel obliged to be a genius. Is this a bad thing? Am I seriously mentally ill? Either way, I will continue to pray that God does whatever he does to make me into the person he wants me to be...

Humans prefer to take the easy route, its normal. To achieve higher goals means more expectations and more stress/pressure to reach said expectations.

FWIW, the curve on the BC test is usually fairly generous. I think the year before I took it, getting 30-40% of the possible points would get you a 3, which is really all you need unless you plan to go to Harvard or MIT. Now you just have to agonize for 2 and a half months before finding out. :)
Also, there is no 0 on the AP Tests. I think there are situations where there is an NG (No Grade) but you'll at least get a 1 if you took it. And no, you're not mentally ill for thinking you'd be relieved at getting a one. It would probably be fairly illuminating for you, as the door to a major/career that uses a lot of calculus (or at least where knowing calculus is necessary, like Physics or engineering) would be closed. If I had gotten a 1 on the BC test, I probably would have gone into Law or Business instead of engineering.

Thanks for the optimism guys. My sister has said something similar, so I hope you are right. :)

Good luck on your other tests! I'll be :prayer:

Which one? I took nine of them in high school, so there's a decent chance I've taken the one that you're going to take, and I would be happy to offer any advice you would like.
The ones I took are:
US History
World History
Calculus AB
Statistics
US Government and Politics
Calculus BC
Psychology
English Literature
Macroeconomics
I wish I had taken AP Bio in High School so I wouldn't have had to waste my time taking it in college, but it was regarded as one of the most difficult classes at the school, and I already had a pretty full load with my other AP classes.

AP English Language and Composition. Sorry, haha I'd love some advice. ;D
-
must be nice...my high school only had AP gov for senior year. Now I hear they offer AP English, Government, and Calculus AB...can it really be I've been out of high school almost 10 years....?

Yeah. You're old.

From what I've heard, the Language and Composition test is the easier of the two English exams. But I don't have any experience taking that exam specifically, and the Lit test was the hardest one I took. Basically, all I can suggest is, when you're writing your essays, just keep writing whatever comes into your head (as long as it's about the topic). You can make corrections later, but content is usually more important than form (though form is definitely very important) so you need to make sure you address the whole question. Anyway, good luck!

Yeah. You're old.
Some of us old guys still took lots of AP classes and tests in HS. I've been out for 16 years and I took AP classes in Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, and Computer Science. I took AP tests in all of those + US History.

Of course, when we took the AP Calculus in the old days, we got to use wooden blocks to make Reimann Sums and an abacus for quick calculations.

an abacus for quick calculations.
That seems like it would get pretty noisy in the testing room...

You should have heard the AP Psychology testing room (back with the DSM III, when more things were considered "abnormal" than today). The tests were more "hands on" back then, so the testing room was more like "What about Bob?" than "Stand and Deliver." ;)

Can anyone offer advice on the AP World History tests? I am only a sophmore and got a completely jacked up online class, because the proctor in the classroom was incompetent and did not help us learn at all. And the online teacher for the first semester just let us turn in assignments without actually grading them, and then this semester the new teacher has stepped up to a waaaaaay harder level and I have been really struggling. Even though I haven't taken an online class before, I am sure it wasn't supposed to be like this. I haven't learned anything in the class, but luckily I know a lot about history anyways. My test is next Thurs. so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

I took the test without taking an AP World History (or any World History course for that matter) and got a 5. I had taken an Ancient History course that year (covered up to Rome/Early Dark Ages). I'd advise focusing on post 1500s history though. The test (especially the essays) are sorely biased towards modern history. I'd also advise you make sure to have a strong grasp on European History, especially Colonialism. I hope that helps a little. If you have more questions, feel free to PM me.

i'll take the TI-89 thank you very much, i think i have used second 7 more than anythign else. (for those who are not engineers it allows you to do integration)
-
Well, I'm going to go take my APUSH test in a minute. Wish me luck...
-
Well, I finished my US History test. I think I did pretty well on that one! I was surprised how smooth the writing portion went...
-
Of course it did. Look how much you post here ;)

Lawlz, an i spiel gud 2. ;D

:-*

I did my US History one today too. I think I did really well on it, I only ended up leaving two or three blank. Barely guessed.
-
Probably the only real problem I had was with names. I dont remember who wrote what and who said this (or i remember but cant tag a name).
-
Obviously Duelin' Dude wrote all of them.
-
Have you gotten your AP results back yet? ;).
I'm really disappointed in my history one. I got a 4, but I really think the work was of a high enough quality to get a 5.
-
I don't take AP tests, my teacher say I am to special for them. But that okay, I like taking the special tests anyways! :)
-
I haven't gotten my AP scores back yet, no. I'm anticipating 3's mainly...
-
Well I got my AP scores back and I got a three, so I passed, thanks for the help from you guys!
-
I'll pray for you.
-
I forgot to report that I got my scores back about a week ago. They were very bad.
-
Then I'll continue to pray for you to gain supernatural knowledge like Solomons!!!
-
Thats okay honey :-*, you can retake the tests next year. I don't care if I'm taking the AP History one until I'm 40, I WILL get a 5 on it.
