Title: Tournament results from this past weekend?
Post by: The Guardian on June 29, 2009, 02:20:38 AM
For those who went to major tournaments (States and Regionals) this past weekend, can you post some of the winners?

Thanks!

I know these categories from Southwest Regionals:

Type 2, 2 Player
1. Kurt Hake
2. Scott Kramer
3. Andrew Kramer
4. Ron Kramer

Type 2, Multiplayer
1. Scott Kramer (w00t!)
2. Andrew Kramer
3. Ron Kramer
4. Kurt Hake

Booster Draft
1. Scott Kramer (w00t!)
2. (apologies, I forgot)
3. Brandon West/Michael Wolfe (apologies also to Brandan Abbott, he should've been part of this tie)

Thanks to Bryon for another excellent tournament.  I'll try to do one of those tournament reports for the categories I played sometime today.

Scott's win in two events was a pretty big deal.  Booster Draft had 22 players, if I remember correctly.
I'll post results later.

Better than not having a tournament tho!

Hopefully you're able to get the group to grow!  :)

I think the NW group will be dwindling next year. I'll be in San Diego going to school, Scott/TJ stamp are quitting. This leaves Josh Randolph's playgroup, which is good sized but I don't know how active they'll be next year.

TJ may still play at times but Scott has been kind of wanting to slow down a little bit for a while.  Scott can better answer why but the gist of it is I am the last active host in the northwest and given the possibility that my wife and my job situation may change the hosting and playgroup would take a big hit.

Same tournament as Scott:

Type I Two-Player:
1. Brandon West
2. Ben (crap... I forgot his name) :( He's an absolutely amazing player, and almost won his fourth tournament in a row. :o
3. Michael Lueng (did I spell that right?)

Type I Multi-Player:
1. Same Ben :P
2. I seem to have forgotten his name
3. My brother who hadn't played for forever!!!! lolololol He got so lucky... /Michael Wolfe?/Don't remember

And guess who Scott forgot who placed second in booster... why, no other than Ben once again!

Thanks to Bryon for another great tournament.

Anyone notice who won type 2 2player at GA state? Does anyone care to respond to the reasoning behind this? More to come...

I think it's 'Leung'.  But I'm not 100% sure.

Hey, props on the win.  I was too busy throwing Andrew's flop of a deck together to hear who won.  And didn't realize Ben had such a good day, either, as I didn't realize he had second in either category.  What's extra crazy is that he wasn't around for the release of the tins, and he's still pulling off strong showings while hardly knowing what he's facing.  Warriors BtN ftw...

No, not that Ben.  :P The other Ben who wins all the tournaments. LOL the Ben you're talking about didn't even player booster...  ;D

[Y]ikes, now I have no idea of who we're talking out.

[edit] Andrew (my brother) knew who he was.  Yeah, from the glimpses I've had of his games, he's got skills.

Bryon, could you please post the last name of the Ben that normally wins Type I 2 player? The Asian one.  :)

Benjamin Diep, the guy who in his eighth grade year, his first year playing Redemption, used a Genesis deck to show up veterans all year.  He's a very smart kid and a very smart player.

Great guess!  Yes, they are very much related to him.  I guess he is a great grand uncle?

I think the NW group will be dwindling next year. I'll be in San Diego going to school, Scott/TJ stamp are quitting. This leaves Josh Randolph's playgroup, which is good sized but I don't know how active they'll be next year.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, yes it's for the most part true.  Basically, I am hanging up my host hat until 1/1/10.  At that point I'll re-evaluate the future.  I may host a tournament or two, but if I do, it will be at Josh's church, and that's only if he doesn't move.  If Josh moves we can safely say that Redemption NW will ride into the sunset.  If 777Godspeed ever moves to Medford, we may see the NW rise again.

Reasons are many, but the main one is that I need to use my hobby money for more fishing.  The Bassmaster is itching to get out in his new boat more often, and that takes money.  To be honest, my wife is very happy I'm quitting.  Though I did tell her not to expect me at home watching chick flicks since I'd be out on my boat.  She said as long as I was doing some activity fit for a man my age.   :D   (Pfft, I'll never grow up!)

But at least I get to go out in style by attending Nats on the West Coast!

That is, as long as players buy stuff from my soon-to-be sale thread.  Keep an eye out!

If the problem is money, then I hope that you'll stay in touch by still hanging out here on the boards, and maybe even playing ROOT, since both of those are free :)

Eric won because he spanked me.
More in depth, Eric won his first round against Chris, I think, then played me and I got slapped around and hung up dry, then he had to leave so he got a bye. I got second cuz I won first game, blocked out second game, then came back strong third game.
Yay byes... :-\

Basically, I am hanging up my host hat until 1/1/10.

That's okay, but please do not stop non-tourney playing even occasionally and teaching the game each time there is a chance --- just like sharing the Holy Book with each soul that it can touch.  I myself have hosted just a couple this year but have relentlessly tried to teach the game like sowing seeds.  One day, I KNOW it'd bear fruit.  Remember, the game rules because its ultimate achievement is fellowship.

See you soon, brother, for the first time!
