Title: Texas Tournaments
Post by: goldencomet on July 28, 2010, 12:04:09 PM
hey everyone in Texas I'm gonna be hosting a tourney after nats, and I was just wondering what the best date for everyone was.
also I would like to know in advance how many people are going to be coming because I need to rent a part of my church and there are population constrictions but the bigger the room the bigger the price. Please post below if you are coming and what date(s) are best for you. Thanks!

The Life Church is available for free.  I would be glad to help out.  I am going to be starting up tournaments this 2010-11 year.  My mom recently went home to be with the Lord.  My sister-in-law preceded her a few months before.  Both had diseases that ravaged their bodies and minds during the past few years.   Both are dancing in the streets of heaven.  Praise God!

I will be submitting applications for both local and district tournaments in the near future.  I am targeting middle to late September and early October.  Stay tuned.

I'm am both saddened to hear about your loss of your family members, and happy to hear about where they are now.  I am also happy to hear that after a hiatus, that TX is returning to the Redemption map :)

I'm free whenever as far as I know. I just have know a week or two in advance so I can ask off for work.

Also, I'm gonna go ahead and throw my vote for Type-2 out there.   ;)

We are anticipating adding several very new to the game players.  If you have any G or H decks in great condition, I would like to purchase them for $2.50 a deck.  That will enable me to help get these new players started.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing you all on the 18th of September.

Post by: Lawfuldog on August 15, 2010, 05:32:43 PM
Terry, I have at least 10,000 cards sitting in boxes that I would love to give to whoever is new and needs cards, or to whoever just simply wants more bulk to add to their collection to maybe make a Type-2 Deck eventually.

I'll bring however much I can fit in my car, and they're free to whoever wants 'em. There are definitely several G/H decks in there, it's finding all of the cards and putting it together that would be difficult.

That sounds fantasctic.  I am sure the new players will appreciate your generosity.  Thanks, Ben.  See you in a couple of weeks.  T am going to schedule another District Tournament on the 3rd Saturday in October.  I will also try to squeeze in a local before that.

Awesome. If you'd like, you could schedule the Districts this season and then in-between Districts I'll happily host the Locals.
Title: Re: Texas Tournaments
Post by: Terry Markoff on August 15, 2010, 09:55:00 PM
I hope that becomes a reality.  My main problem is having a weekend day open to be at the church.  If you could find a place, possibly a Christian bookstore's back room or someone's home, that would be great if I can't be there.  The church will be available if I can be there.  So I'll try to let you know dates I might be able to offer the church.
Title: Re: Texas Tournaments
Post by: goldencomet on August 16, 2010, 09:45:51 PM
I'm also gonna try to host some so I can be entered in the "win every card ever made" lottery
Is highland park too far away for anyone? Because that's where my church is and the only place I can think of at the moment....
Also since there's already a tourney for the 18th I'm not gonna do the 25th. How is October 16th? It's not permanent, just throwing the date out there...and it'll be local
Title: Re: Texas Tournaments
Post by: Terry Markoff on August 16, 2010, 11:09:18 PM
I am scheduling another district for that day, Jon.  Highland Park is closer for the South Dallas guys and girls.  They number about 8 players.  Not too far for me or most of the other regulars.

This will shape up to be the best year ever for Redemption in Texas.

I would love to host several, my only problem is finding a place to host them (since Terry isn't always able to be at the church). So as soon as I can find a place, I'll start sending in the applications.

I am sorry to say that none of the 24 packs of Disiples I bought will be available.  I opened a pack, then another, and another....well you know how that goes.  I do have the Chaldeons Promo, though.

I will have Disciples packs at the local on 10/2 tournament.

See you in 4 days.

Question?  Yes, another one.  Don't y'all just love me

At these tournaments-does every participant get a promo or just the winners?  And no, I am not trying to sound greedy.

  In Christ,

   Sadness
Title: Re: Texas Tournaments
Post by: Terry Markoff on September 14, 2010, 06:19:25 PM
Everyone attending and registered to play in at least 1 event receives a promo.  For this District Tournament, I was fortunate enough to be able to get Chaldeans.  A player winning an event also will receive another promo, foil card or rare/ultra-rare card of his/her choice from the selection offered.

If a player places 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event, he/she will also receive packs of cards as their prize.

Ask as many questions as you like.  We have 2 of the best sources of gameplaying information in Marcus Parker and Ben Shadrick in our play group.  Both are planning to be at this Saturday's events.

In all fairness to him, Chad Soderstrom has won at Nationals (twice, even) whereas I have not.

Also, Sadness, I'm Ben Shadrick and if there is anything at all you are wanting to know, whether it be about strategies or gameplay, feel free to PM me at anytime.

I am crazy excited about this tournament, I have 6 or 7 decks I want to try and it's so hard to just pick one!

Boy do I stand corrected.  Thank you, Ben.  Chad Soderstrom, one of my favorite moments was being at Nationals when Chad beat SirNobody in the finals to win that year's Type 1 2 Player Championship.  And Chad will be joining us on Saturday (playing Type 2 I hope).

Sixteen players rang in a new season of Redemption at The Life Church in Dallas, Tx.  We had first time players, seasoned veterens. past National champions and comeback stories.

Chad Soderstroms successful return to the Redemption scene helped to punctuate this district tournament with an exclamation point.  After nearly 2 years away from the game, he overcame a shakey start in the Type 1-2 Player event with an impressive win in the type 1-Multi event with his dominating play.  He also placed 3rd in Booster Draft,  clearly putting himself back on the Redemption map of players to watch this year.  John Jacob Martinez placed second and newcommer Chris Rutledge sqeezed past a crowded field to place third.

John Jacob Martinez once again played masterfully as he scored an impressive win over the 14 player field in the Type 1-2 Player event.  Luz Mora took second place while Jonathan Myers shocked everyone, including himself as he captured the third spot.

Of course, we can't have a successful tournament without Ben Shadrick strutting his stuff.  He place first in both the Type 2-Multi Player and Booster Draft events.

Marcus Parker surprised Ben By blowing him away in the Type 2-2 Player event.

Terry Markoff placed second in Booster Draft and 3rd in theType 2-Multi Player event.

Ben Shadrick donated several thousand cards to the playgroup.  There were wide smiles on the faces of the members of our playgroup for several hours after their last event as they lingered to search through the boxes of cards Ben had brought with him.  Thanks, Ben.

Next tournament, a local Oct. 2nd.  All are invited.

Its great to be back! :D I can't wait to familiarize myself with all the new cards and come up with a deck that will hopefully put me back into the group of feared players. Hopefully by next nationals I will have everything perfected and will be back with my game face on. ;) I can't wait to see all the people I haven't seen in my 2 year absence. I also want to thank Terry for being such a great tournament host, and a good friend to everyone in the Texas play group. Thank you for everything you've done for us over the years Terry. Don't think this means I'll go easy on ya though! ;)

Congratulations, again, Jacob on your Type 1-2 Player streak.  I find it absolutely amazing that you prevent your opponents from winning Lost Souls when time after time it seems like they are saying, ", O.K. Stop that," knowing you can't and then you do!  I appreciate the efforts your playgroup make to get to each tournament, your play styles, and character and integrity.

See you mid-October.

Thanks Terry you are the reason I'm still playing today. That Chad battle was epic, watching Jon rip a hamans plot cus he thought he had hamans gallows was hard to watch, Chad coming up on top in multiplayer with a deck he wasn't familiar with was nothing short of amazing, Ben giving away literally thousands of cards to the new generation was everything this game is all about, my beautiful girl Luz managed to get second a third time in a row (I created a monster!)  Can't wait for the next.

Amen, Brother!  Your creative ability to build decks for your friends has helped create such a wonderful and healthy competitive environment.  We will miss you next weekend but that will give others 2 more chances to win, place or show.  I am looking forward to your rivalry with Chad.

Terry, I plan to be around for awhile! My life and the lives of my friends have been impacted by the tournaments you've been hosting for years. Also, if you would like to give me some dates your church is available I wouldn't mind hosting a few tournaments to relieve you from some of the burden. I am also talking with Ben about finding somewhere capable of holding tournaments. I love the new competition! I haven't come up with the deck I am going to be playing in T1 2p this year yet, but I'm diligently working on my next masterpiece! :P

Just keep your eyes on Him.  He is the one who has been blessing you guys, and blessing us through you, too.  I will let you and Ben know of some dates that the church will be available.  I was thinking about sending an application for a District Tournament on November 6th and December 18th.

I also spoke to some fairly influential people in the Dallas area about doing some advertising for Redemption among a group of pastors and youth leaders.  That could prove to be quite interesting.

See you on Saturday.

We will have a full schedule will multiple rounds on the 16thth of October.

Great tournament.  13 players participated in our local.

It was great to see Aaron Burt and Jordan Drott retrurn to the Redemption scene.  Each of them had successful comebacks.  Jordan came in 1st in Type 1-Multi Player and 2nd in Type 1-2 Player, while Aaron finished 2nd and 3rd in those events.

Chad Soderstrom continued his successful return with a 1st place finish in Type 1-2 Player.  Alas, multi-player seemed to confound the poor lad.

Ben Shadrick continued to dominate Type 2 scoring victories in both the 2 player and multi-player events.  Newcomer Xavier Mendoza scored a victory in Closed Deck and his broth Noel placed 2nd.  Noah Johnson a first time player took 3rd place honors.  Marcus Rutledge placed 3rd in T1-multi-player

Marcus Parker took 2nd place in both of the Type 2 events while Terry Markoff finished 3rd in the T2-Multi-Player event.

We are looking for a record number of participants for the next district tournament in 2 weeks (10/16).

Whew, the Life Church is going to need to replace its floors with all the foot traffic its getting.
Be advised guys(and girls),the closer we get to major holidays, the more than likely, folks will be paying less attention to their driving and more to the cellphones, shopping lists, etc. Also, police will be out in force. So,watch your driving as well as your speeding. We don't want people telling saint peter,"we were on our way to a redemption tournament when THAT happened!" Drive safe and looking forward to seeing you there.

God Bless you and keep you safe,

The sessions are pretty much morning (2-player) and afternoon (multi-player), with a break around lunch time in between.  You don't have to stay for both sessions if you don't want to.

October 16th District Tournament results:

Type 2-2 Player 1st:  Ben Shadrick
                      2nd: Marcus Parker

Type 2-Multi-Player  1st: Ben Shadrick
                            2nd: Marcus Parker
                            3rd: Terry Markoff

Type 2 went according to plan with Ben winning both events rather easily.

It was an interesting Closed Deck event with 6 relitively new players.
1st place was won by Noel Mendoza while the crowded field had 3 players tying for 2nd place.  Alisha Rutledge, Noah Johnson and Chris Rutledge.

The Type 1-2 Player event was won by Jordan Drott.  Jacob Martinez finished second and C.J. Jackson nabbed the 3rd spot.

Type 1-Multi-Player event went Jacob Martinez who is establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with.  C.J. Jackson grabbed second place while Jordan Drott placed third.

The Booster Draft event went to Terry Markoff.  Ben Shadrick rallied to win the 3rd game to place second.  Jordan Drott placed third.

!4 participants played from 9 am to 5 pm.  I believe a good time was had by all.

Next event will be the November 20th district Tournasment at the Life Church.. Hope to see a record number of players there.

I want to give a special welcome to long time collector and first time player Stephen.  Thanks for joining our playgroup.  We hope to see you at the next tournament.  I am glad we were able to help you find so many of the cards you have been searching for to complete your collection.  Thanks for driving all the way from Weatherford.

I also want to congratulate Jordan Drott for his first tournament victory since coming back to the game after a 3 year layoff.  I also want to congratulate Noel Mendoza on his first tournament win and Noah for his first 2nd place finish.  Both of these youngsters have been playing for one month.  Of course, I want to congratulate Ben Shadrick for his 2 Type 2 event wins and Jacob Martinez for his Type 1-Multi-Player victory.

I just keep praising God for the play group we have.  You are a very welcomed addition.  By the way guys, Noah was so excited that he began teaching his cousin how to play, opened the practice game with prayer and gave his cousin lots of cards to start his own collection.  Cool, huh.  You all are such a good example to the little guy.

Hey everybody, I'm Justin Cannady! Just got back into the game!! I have been playing for years but have not playing for a long time. Need to figure out all the cards I need so I can build a tourny worthy deck. I know the tournaments are held in dallas, but are there any players in the Fort Worth area?? I live in Glen Rose and am about 1 hour from Ft Worth, 2 hours from Dallas. Would be great to have some players close to my area. Anyways can't wait to make it to a tournament!

God Bless

Great, Justin.  We have a number of people here that could help you with the cards.  Many for free.  We  meet about once a month for tournaments.   Our next tournament is a district on November 20th.  It will start at approx 9 am.  Location:  The Life Church at the intersection of Hillcrest and Alpha roads.

We have a player from weatherford and another from Tyler, but most of our playgroup live in the Dallas area.  Hope to see you soon.  My cell is 972 948 2304.  Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions.  My name is Terry.

Some of the guys might, but I don't think they have recently.  Ben would for sure.  He's already been quoted as saying that he'd play every weekend if he could.  He is part of a group of four players that come regularly to our tournaments.  Best thing to do is to ask them yourself when you see us.

Looking forward to meeting you in person.

  Thanks, Stephen
Title: Re: Texas Tournaments
Post by: RedemptionAggie on November 03, 2010, 12:35:17 AM
By rule, Type 1 decks have to be between 50-154 cards.  Type 2 decks can be between 100-252 cards.  Terry probably doesn't (and can't) enforce other limits.

For deck checking, T2 decks need to be organized (all copies of the same card together, all cards of the same alignment together - good/evil/neutral) to be able to check it in any decent amount of time.  It's probably also a good idea to organize T1 decks over probably 70 cards, so it's easier to catch duplicate cards that aren't supposed to be there.  (Technically, all decks are supposed to be organized, but it's easier to remember/catch mistakes in the usual 50/56/63 card decks than larger decks.)

Thanks, Marcus.  November 20th!  Be there.

Three more brand new players were introduced to the game last Sunday.  Cheyenne and Taylor, brother sister and another adult, David, were excited about the game and will probably try to make it to the next tournament.

Hope to see close to 20 players at next tournament.

We have 2 tournaments coming up.  Both are District.  November 20th six events will be offered.  Closed Deck, Both type 1 and Type 2 events, and Booster Draft will be offered.
In Booster Draft you get six or seven packs, each from a different set.  You open one pack at a time, take a card, pass it to the player to the right or left of you,  look at the cards passed to you and take one card, then pass those cards to the person you passed to a few moments before and repeat until all the cards from everyone's first pack are taken.  Then you open a second pack from the 6 or 7 you originnally received and start the same process over.  You do that for each pack.  Then when all the packs have been opened and passed around, you have about 15 minutes to create a deck using the cards you chose.  It's pretty simple.  It is like no other type of game either.  Attack, attack, attack often wins, so draft Good Characters and some enhancements to aid them.  I am sure others can explain its intricacies better than I.  It is the most costly to play, though.  Roughly $20 because of the number of packs you receive.

Another Saturday, another exciting tournament (especially for first time winner C.J. Jackson).  Congratulations, CJ on your first place finish in Type-1 Multi-Player.

Ben Shaddrick and Marcus Parker once again Dominated the Type 2 events, as Ben Won both events and Marcus came in second.  Terry Markoff finished a distant third.  Marcus also won Booster Draft in a wild and wacky 4 game set.  Ben edged out Terry for second place.

Terry Markoff won his first Type-1 2 Player tournament in which he inadvertently entered a deck with no EDominants.  Go figure.

Marcus Rutledge racked up a third place finish in both Type 1 events and CJ Jackson came in Type 1-2 Player.

We only had 8 players able to make this event.  We are hoping for 15-18 at our next district tournament on Saturday, December 18th.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Hey, Buddy.  Glad to hear that you will be able to make it.  We have been trying to start by 9:15 am with Type 1, Type 2 2 Player.  After lunch, we do the Type 1 and 2 Multi-Player and for those desiring to stay, we follow that up with Booster Draft.  We have been finishing up by 4:30 ish.

Ben and Marcus will be glad to see you.  They need a third for T2-Multi.  They've taken turns beating up on me.

Welcome back, Buddy Dunn.  Buddy returned to our playgroup after about a year's absence with a bang, as he placed 1st in Booster Draft, 2nd in Type 2-Multi and 3rd in Type 2-2 player events.  Congratulations, Buddy for your triumphant return and for saving me from using Marcus Parker's heroless Type 2 deck  (well, it had heroes,  but I rarely saw them).

Marcus does quite nicely with his #1 Type 2 deck, though as he racked up 2nd place finishes in both of the Type 2 events.  It probably goes without saying that Ben Shadrick once again was the story with his 2 wins as he swept the Type 2 matches.

Noel Mendoza once again won the Closed Deck competition as Noah Johnson finished 2nd.

John Jacob returned to form with a 1st place finish in the Type 1-2 Player event as Luz Mora took 2nd place and CJ Jackson took 3rd.  CJ had a great day as he beat the field of Type 1-Multi players much to everyone's astonishment (except himself).  John Jacob tied for 2nd in that event.

Neeka Parker tied for 2nd place in the Type 2-Mult event.  She also returned to play after a very successful semester at college.

I hope to schedule a Local and a District tournament some time late January or February.  Thank you all for your participation and helping to make our tournaments so special.
