Title: Texas Tournament News
Post by: Terry Markoff on August 05, 2007, 04:21:53 PM
A District Tournament will be scheduled for Saturday, September 22nd.

It will begin at approximately 9:00 am.  There will be a lunch break.  We will send out for pizza for those interested.  Drinks will be provided by host.

Morning Session will include your choice of:

Closed Deck ($10);  3 rounds
Type 1 2-Player ($2);  3 rounds
Type 2 2-Player ($2);  2 rounds

After a lunch break we will be offering:

Booster Draft (Faith of our Fathers) for ($15);  3 rounds
Type 1-Mult ($2);  2 or 3 rounds
Type 2-Multi ($2);  2 rounds

Congratulations to Chad Soderstrom for winning the Closed Deck National Cahmpionship and for winning the Closed Deck Points Championship.

Congratulations to Ben Shadrick for winning the Booster Draft Points Total.

Congratualtions to Aaron Burt for winning the Ironman Competition.
Congratulations to the 16 Texas National Championship participants.

My personal favorite memory was the first day during Closed Deck when we were about to start round 7 after I looked at the rankings.  There were 6 members of our little play group in the top 10.  Cool.

Sorry, Marcus.  The promo is the new Captured Ark.  Looking forward to seeing how many new Faith of Our Fathers make it into Type 1 and 2 decks this year.

I've got a Blue/Silver type-1 deck with a Gold/Gray Emperor defense that looks pretty good.

I haven't quite gotten all the cards I need for type-2 though.

2 Questions Terry,

1. Are you going to add Patriarchs and Angel Wars to the Booster Draft? Or just use the FooF Tin and what comes in it.

2. Are there going to be FooF Tins for sale at the tournament? If there are, I'm sure I will buy 2 or 3 and other people would too.

Post by: Terry Markoff on August 14, 2007, 12:28:20 PM
Ben,

Good questions.  I am thinking about adding Angel Wars and Patriarchs but the cost may be prohibitive.  It will cost me $300 for the tins (20 tins-enough for the booster draft and then some left for sale, I'm thinking) and another $50 or so for the extra packs (Angel W and Pat.).  I would have to charge $20 for Booster Draft to do that.  If you guys are alright with that, I'll place the order.  Let me know what you all are thinking.

Terry

You could order 2 complete sets of tins from Covenant Games for $270.  That would save a little.

Terry,

Nah, $20 is a little too much for booster. I'm not even playing Booster Draft this year, I was just curious.

Congrats Ben, Chad. I hope to see all of you on the 22nd...but who knows what mysterious wanderings lie beyond the foggy path of schoolwork?

:P Don't ask...the point was I don't know my schedule this fall yet, but I hope to see you guys on the 22nd. :D

Hey Terry,

I had a quick question I need to run by you. I might be getting a good amount of Warriors and Womens packs, and thought about holding a side event during the lunch hour. It would be something like this...

X-TREME BOOSTER
Come and enjoy all the fun of Booster Draft, but with a slight twist!
Each player will get the following:
Unlimited Booster Pack
Prophets Booster Pack
Womens Booster Pack
Warriors Booster Pack
Patriarchs Booster Pack
Apostles Booster Pack
Kings Booster Pack
Angel Wars Booster Pack
Priest Booster Pack
(Possibly 10 FoOF cards also)

You're probably thinking "WOW! Warriors Packs! How much is this gonna cost me?"
It will only cost you $25! (Unless I add 10 FoOF cards, then $30)

This event will be held in the lunch hour of the September 22nd Tournament, and possible a little extra time to get 2 or 3 games in.

Yes!  We are still alive and well in Texas.  We will meet Saturday, Sept. 22nd, at 9 am at the church.  We will do the multi player games in the mornging and the 2 player games after the lunch break.

Booster Draft will be $12 to enter.  Closed deck $10 with a $5 buyback for the complete G or H set returned in playable condition.  Unwanted drafted cards, lost souls and other doubles you have no use for will be appreciated and redistributed to new players.

Bring a friend who has never attended a Dallas tournament and receive a free pack for each registered new player you brang.

Looking forward to Saturday.  See you then.

Does this include Patriarchs packs, or just the FoOF tins?

I switched the events to accomodate a player who would like to play Booster but cannot stay for the afternoon session.  I will consider adding both Patriarchs and Angel Wars.  Probably at least one of the 2.

See you guys on Saturday.

Just a reminder about this weekend's tournaments.  A local at my house Friday evening starting around 7 pm.  I am expected (counting me) between 5-7 players.
There will be 2 events offered.  Closed Deck is free if the player returns the G/H deck in playing excellent condition.  The other event will be determined that evening.

Saturday (at the church) we will continue the weekend festivities with a District Tournament.  The start time is 10:30 am.  It will run until 5 or 6 pm.
I expect between 10-15 players to attend.

Terry,

Just an update about me and the group that tags along. Me, Jordan, and Chad will most likely attend the local tournament (there's a good 90% we'll be there, and will definately be at the District.) but Aaron cannot attend the Local, he can go to the district though.

Thanks,
Ben

Cool.  Brett cannot make it.  The kids from church might go to the district.  Not sure about Marcus.  Probably just you guys.  If you cannot attend Friday evening then no one will be there but me.  I might then try to run it after the District on Saturday.

I'm presently too busy/lazy to build decks, so I'd be limited to closed deck/BD, which I don't currently have the cash for.  I may come Saturday afternoon for Booster, but probably not tomorrow night.

Happy New Year!

With our first Texas District Tournament of the new year behind us, we look forward to the challenges ahead.  Sadly we face this year without 2 members of our playgroup.

Chad Soderstrom has decided to join the circus.  He will be billed as Jo Jo the Dogfaced boy and Mimi, the Bearded Woman.  Actually Chad sold most of his collection and is looking forward to purchasing his first car.  We will miss him but wish nothing but blessings upon his life.

We also congratulate the Denver Redemption area as Jordan Drott's family has moved to Colorodo Springs.  Your gain is our loss.  (Don't let him eat or drink anything with sugar in it).

Back to the tournament results.
Booster Draft:  Buddy Dunn took first place for the second time in a row.
Ben Shadrick took second and Terry Markoff, third.                         Lots of laughter as Ben was stuck with orange and failed to see anything helpful during the draft.
Closed Deck:  Terry Markoff took first place while newcommer Daniel Burt took second and Buddy Dunn, third.
Type 2-2 Player:  A bit of a surprise as Aaron Burt took first place, Bethany Dunn took second place and Ben Shadrick, third.
Type 2-Multi:  Ben Shadrick came roaring back and took first place honors in the multi event.  Buddy Dunn took second place and Bethany Dunn, third.
There was a blow out as Aaron Burt won all three of his Type 1-2 Player games.  Jonathan Myers placed second.
Type1-Multi was also won by Aaron Burt.  Terry Markoff and Daniel Burt tied for 2nd place.

We hope to see our Waco and East Tx friends March 1st, when we will play again.

Please let me know if you plan to attend the District Tournament this Saturday.

I believe that the following probably will be attending:

East Texas:  Jason plus 3 or 4 from his play group
Waco:  Blake and several of his family and friends may join us
DallasFt. Worth:  Aaron, Ben, Chad, Sheika, Jonathan, Rohan, Terry, Buddy, a small? playgroup from an area church
Unsure:  Marcus and his sister Nika, Bethany

$2 will cover cost of pizza (lunch)

Should be exciting if everyone shows.

Stay tuned for news about the Texas State tournament coming in late May or early June.

Today's tournament was fantastic.  Four players new to our group joined us today.  Thank you Cactus website and message boards.

Results in the morning session included a first place finish for Aaron Burt in Type 1-2 Player, a second place finish by Buddy Dunn and a third place finish by newcommer and first time tournament player, Isaac Aldana.

Closed Deck results showed Jason Litchfield easily beating the field and Terry Markoff grabbing second place (only because only 2 players participated in this event.

Type 2-2 Player results included another win by Ben shaddrick and a second place finish by Bethany Dunn.

Six boxes of pizza were consumed in about 15 minutes during the lunch break.  A new record for pizzas and time taken to devour them.

The afternoon session provided some interesting matchups.  Four members of a south Dallas church battled for 3 rounds in the Type1-Multi-Player event.  When the dust cleared, Marcus Rutledge and Jhovanny Aldana shared first place while John Jacob Martinez finished third, just 1/6th of a point behind his friends.  All three young men were playing in their first sanctioned tournament.

Ben Shadrick once again won Booster Draft while Sheika Dammala place second and Terry Markoff just beat out Rohan Dammala for third place.

Finally, Aaron Burt won a grueling battle with 3 other players in the Type 2-Multi-Player event.  Buddy Dunn placed second while Jason Litchfield took third place.

We are hoping to host the Texas State Tournament at The Life Church in late May or early June and the South Central Regionals in July.  Stay tuned for more information.  Out of state players are cordially invited to join us.

I sent in a request to host the Texas State Tournament which if approved, it will be a one day event at The Life Church in Dallas, TX (located at the NW corner of Hillcrest and Alpha roads) starting bright and early with players having two choices.  They may participate in Closed Deck ($10 entry fee) or Booster Draft Player (for $12) to begin at 8:00 am Saturday, June 2nd.  Participants, there will be a $5 Registration fee to help the host defray the cost of the product used.

At approximately (no sooner) 11:00 am two more events will be offered.  Type 1-2 Player ($2) and Type 2-2 Player ($2) will be held.  A lunch break of approximately 1 hour will be inserted some time during these two events.  As usual, we will send out for pizza.  A donation of $2 a player will allow you all the pizza you can eat.

The final two catergories will be held within 20 minutes of the final Type 1 and 2 games.  Players may choose between Type 1-Multi-Player ($2) or Type 2-Multi-Player ($2).  These events might continue well into the evening (probably after 8 pm) so please communicate this to loved ones and/or friends who will be providing you a ride home.

I am looking forward to a record number of players joining us this year.  For you out of staters, know that the competition will be stiff as Ben Shadrick, Chad Soderstrom and Aaron Burt all plan to attend.  State promos will be given to all paid participants.

Please let me know if you plan to attend and (if you know) what events you will be playing so I may have plenty of product available.

ATTENTION ALL TEXAS REDEMPTION PLAYERS!

I am truly sorry for the lack of communication and the delays in posting the Texas State and South Central Regional Tournaments.

I hope I have met with my final obstacles.  I posted the Texas State Tournament for June 13th and Saturday, June 14th.  Closed Deck and Booster will be on the Friday.  Closed Deck will begin at approximately 10:30 am.  Booster will start at the conclusion of the Closed Deck final round.  Please let me know, if you can, whether you will be attending either event.  I need to purchase the materials this week for both Closed Deck and Booster Draft.  Closed Deck will be $10 and Booster $12 to register.  There will also be a one time $5 registration fee to participate in this tournament.

Saturday will kick off with Type-1 and Type 2 2 Player events.  They will be followed by the multi-player events in the late afternoon (probably around 4 pm).

There will be a lunch break each day.  Everyone is on their own, but if you want I can provide all the pizza and cold drinks for a nominal $2 charge.

We have around 30 potential players.  I hope to see the folks from South Dallas, Dallas, the surrounding suburbs, Waco and East Texas.  A hearty Howdy to our Arkansas neighbors.  I hope you can attend, too.

I will be posting more information as I am able.

Hey Terry,

I'll be going both days and be playing Closed Deck, Booster Draft, Type-2 2 player, and Type-2 multi-player.

I'm not 100% sure that Aaron will be able to go, he is leaving June 7th to go out of town and I'm not sure when he's coming back.

If he is back in time, he'll probably play Closed Deck, Booster Draft, Type-1 2 player, and Type-1 multi-player. (not sure about type-1 2 player though.)

Looking forward to it!

Attention all out of towners and out of staters.  I do believe that I will be able to offer lodgings in the church for those that might need that type of assistance.  Please let me know if you plan to attend, the categories you will be playing and if you will need a place to stay (the church).

My mom really doesn't want to pick me up and drive back the next morning. So if there are others planning on lodging, I'd like to just bring a sleeping bag and stay at the church.

If there isn't anyone else staying at the church, my mom said she'd come pick me and Jordan up. (99% sure Jordan is coming, unless something drastic happend and his family reunion gets canceled.)

CAN'T WAIT 'TIL THE TOURNAMENT!

Thanks,
Ben

I'm 95% sure that I'm staying the night at the church. I'm not sure about the rest of my group. I think half might come both days and others just Saturday. I'm giving them info this next week and should have an estiment by Tueday night.

btw I'm doing both Booster and Closed and probably both type-2 but I'm not sure yet for the saturday stuff.

Thanks for the heads up Ben.

Buddy, I'll judge booster.  Thanks for judging closed Deck.  Play whatever you like saturday and I'll switch off withv u judging.

We will be sharing the church on saturday.  Men's breakfast will go from 8:30 am to about 10 am.  Then we will play the tournament in the main meeting area as you enter the building.  The women of the life Church will be having a meeting most of the day in the sanctuary and the upstairs classrooms.

Counting down to 6/13.  Only 10 more days.

So Tuesday I had one of my guys show up and the parents for one other. I think that Vincent, the one that showed up, will only be there Friday morning. His family is spending that weekend in Dallas but seeing how he has to do stuff with his is family he can't be there the whole time. There was talk he may be there Saturday but I think it was finalized for just Friday morning Closed Deck. I didn't get confermations from Jose's mom on what he's doing but I wouldn't be surpised if he came both days mostly because I may be the only way he can get out there. I'm going to make a few phone calls to see it I can set some more names.

To those staying at the church: I'm bringing a few board games for that evening. On the list right now is Risk, Star Wars Risk, Pirate of the Caribbean Life, Settlers of Canaan, and possibly Settlers of Catan (it's not mine so I'm not sure yet) and around two dozen decks of playing cards so we could play any card game you can think of. We don't have to play any of them I just though it would be nice to have a few options.

In order to help defray the cost of playing in this year's Texas State and Regional Tournaments, you may give me a comple and playable G/H deck in lieu of the $5 one time registration fee.

Hope that will help you.  It will help me, too.

2 DAYS TO GO

Buddy, will you and Bethany be playing Type-2 on saturday?
Title: Re: Texas Tournament News
Post by: Blood Bought Believer on June 11, 2008, 06:58:36 PM
Ben,

That is the plan at this point.  Bethany will not be there Friday (she has a summer semester class at Eastfield), but she is planning to play Saturday (she prefers Type 2 anyway).  If Marcus judges multi on Saturday, I should be available to play both categories of Type 2.

Judging from responses, I would think Marcus (except for multi) and Neeka will be playing Type 2, along with Jason, Bethany, you and me (and possibly Aaron)...we should have a good group for Type 2.
Title: Re: Texas Tournament News

I was wondering if we have a count on people staying at the church and how many of those people have cars. I'm mostly wondering for dinner Friday night. Are we going to have room to car pool somewhere or just send a couple people to pick something up? I doubt we want to have pizza for 3 meals in the weekend.

Is there a Chinese place that delivers in the area? I'm just thinking through options.

Title: Re: Texas Tournament News
Post by: Blood Bought Believer on June 11, 2008, 07:10:57 PM
Jason...I don't know if I will be staying the night Friday, but I'll probably stay late if I don't (and I will have a vehicle).  I would think that Terry would be staying around, as well, so there should be some kind of transportation available...besides WHAT"S WRONG WITH PIZZA?   ;)

Ben...Yeah, but if Marcus judges during multi that leaves FIVE.
Title: Re: Texas Tournament News
Post by: RedemptionAggie on June 11, 2008, 07:12:13 PM
The plan wasn't for more than 1 of Neeka and I to play T2, at least now that I've looked into building decks.  Neither of us has really played since Nationals, so accounting for FoOF in a T2 deck would take some time.
Title: Re: Texas Tournament News
Post by: Blood Bought Believer on June 11, 2008, 07:13:29 PM
...and the count dwindles...

If we end up on an odd number, I can play something else...or judge so Terry can play.

Marcus...you mean you're not going to play the same deck you have played for the last two years?  :D

Title: Re: Texas Tournament News

I've been playing it longer than that, and Orange and Jacob/RTC cause some issues with that deck.  If one of us plays T2, that will be offense, for the most part, I think.
Title: Re: Texas Tournament News

Jason, I will be staying at the church as will Aaron, Ben, and Jordan.  Add to that the folks you are coming with.  There are alot of fast food options.  I am sure there is Chinese in the area.  Many places deliver.

I appreciate Buddy and Marcus for volunteering to judge.  At the moment I beleive Buddy is judging Closed Deck on Friday.  I will be judging Booster in the afternoon-evening.

Saturday, I figured I would judge the Type 1 and Type2 2 Player events while Marcus judges the evening multi events.

2 days to go.

Alright folks I'm heading to Lindale tonight (puts me 25 minutes closer) and then on to Dallas tomorrow. As things are looking I'm the only one staying the night. Several people haven't come for the last 2 weeks so I wasn't able to spread the word that well. One of my guys is coming Friday for closed deck in the morning, but he's spending the rest of the weekend with his family. Hopefully we can get more for Regionals.

See ya tomorrow.

The Texas State results.

Closed Deck:       First Place:  Aaron Burt
                        Second:      John Jacob Martinez
                        Third:         Isaac Aldana
Booster Draft:     First Place:  Jordan Drott
                        Second:      Aaron Burt
                        Third:         Neeka Parker
Type 1-2 Player: First Place:   Aaron Burt
                       Second:       Jordan Drott
                       Third:          Isaac Aldana
Type 2-Multi:     First Place:   Jordan Drott
Second:       John Jacob Martinez, Buddy Dunn (tie)
Type 2-2 Player: First Place:  Ben Shadrick
                       Second:       Marcus Parker
                       Third:          Buddy Dunn
Type 2-Multi:    First Place:   Jason Litchfield
                      Second:       Bethany Dunn
                      Third:           Ben Shadrick

Nine different players placed.  We had several new players.  Watch out for Isaac Aldana and John Jacob Martinez.  They shined.

Not surprisingly Jordan Drott, Ben Shadrick and Aaron Burt won 5 of the 6 events.  They are good!

A great time was had by all, even newcommers Marcus Rutledge, Zack Reynolds, Jhovanny Aldana, Vincent Villalobos and I had a good time, even though we were not able to place.

We are all looking forward to Regionals on Friday and Saturday (July 18th and 19th).

Dallas, TX is proud to host this year's South Central Regional Tournament this year.  The fun begins at 10 am Friday, July 18th with Closed Deck.  There will be a $5 one time registration fee to play this tournament to help defray the cost of hosting this event.  Ben Shadrick, your fee is waived because you returned a complete G/H boxed set in mintlike condition.  We will play 5 rounds.  Sometime during this event, there will be a lunch break.  Players can order pizza (all you can eat) for $2 or go to one of the many fine restuarants (fastfood places) in the area.  Around 3:30ish we will begin Booster Draft.  If you return a complete set (one of your doubles, I would presume) of one of the Faith of Our Fathers sets before we start this event, you will receive a free pack of cards (your choice) and an 8" by 11" glossy photo of Brett ripping a Haman's Plot against Chad, or $5.

Closed Deck:   $10
Booster Draft: $12

Saturday, July 19th will open with Type 1-2 Player and Type 2-2 Player events beginning with Deck Registration at about 8:30 am.  We will play 5 or 6 rounds of Type 1 and 3 or 4 rounds of Type 2.   We will take a lunch break around 12 noon.  At about 3:30 ish, we will play the Type 2 events.  3 rounds of multi, Type 1 and  2 rounds of multi, Type 2.
Out of town, out of state, out of mind players welcome.  Bring a first time player to a Dallas tournament and both the new player and the bringer will receive a free pack of Priests (one per player limit).  The count down has begun.  There are only 20 days left.

Type 1 and Type 2:  $2 per event.

IF Neeka comes on Friday, she'll play Booster.  She's got orientation up at UNT from Wednesday until Friday morning, so she doesn't even know if she'll feel like coming Friday afternoon.

I'll play T22P on Saturday and can judge multi.  Neeka would probably prefer to play T2 on Saturday, although that's flexible.

Terry If you don't get your tins by midday on the thursday before give me a call and I can buy some out here and bring them. Type 2-Multi:  1st:  Chad Soderstrom;  2nd:  Aaron Burt;  3rd:  Jason Litchfield

A great time was had by all.  A special thanks to Marcus and Buddy for helping me with the judging.  A special thanks to the East Texas playgroup for driving several hours top participate.

Next tournament will be in September, probably a local and a District.  You all have a great time at Nationals.

I squeaked in by pulling Destruction  ;D

Just a reminder, I'm hosting a local out here in Tyler this Saturday. I know that it's to far for most of you, but if you are coming let me know. Thanks.

What's the promo?  Expected end time?

I probably won't come, but you never know.

Wings of Calamity and we should end by 4ish. The Scroll opens at 9 so we are starting registration then and we'll get game play going by 9:30. If you're not there and I know that you're coming I'll wait.

The results are in

Type-1 2player
1st Jason Litchfield
2nd Jose Rios

Type-1 Multi
1st Jason Litchfield
2nd David Lutmer (hasn't been to any Dallas torments yet)

I will say they weren't making it easy on me. Amd starting in the fall I will be hosting Type 2 at my tournments as well so all you Type 2 players need to come out here so I'm not winning all the time.

Hey, congratulations to Ben Shadrick, Aaron Burt, Chad Soderstrom and Marcus Parker for there finishes at Nationals and final RNPS finishes.  No wonder I can't win at Districts.

Texas may have one of the smallest playgroups, but man are those guys good.

I think Terry fell off the edge of the world.  I'll have to see if I can find a place to host some tourneys.

Nope.

Oh and I would really like some prayers for my group out here. At the beginning of this semester, I had to stop leading it because I had a class during the at time and I don't have any evenings free to move it. As far as I know, they are still meeting and I still have contact info for most of them, so if there is a tourniment, I may still be able to bring some folks out.

I am definitely necroposting here!!! Such nostalgia!  For those who do not know Terry Markoff --- he is currently the oldest active Redemption player. Joe S was just 15 when Terry started this tourney thread!

Now time to hunt those Texans on hiatus!!! Chad S. (then just 14) was Nats 2006 champ, Ben S. (then just 13) was also 2006 Nats ranked for Sealed Deck. And Marcus P did not even imagine that time that he would one day become Redemption rules guru!!!

GOD IS GOOD!!!
