So it's decided?
California should get Natz '09. Their regional was similar in size to the rest of the regions last year and there hasn't ever been a national tournament on the west coast.

please let nats 09 be in ga cause i'd love to be in at least 1 natsme too
If I remember right we had 40 at our southeast.43 to be exact. I'm pretty sure
Iowa is best because it's centraloh and don't forget you live there. and R99 cmon you would rather hav it in Ohio than in your home state!?! what the heck "well uhh I like paying for travel gas."
GA for natz '09!+1
Either that or back to ohio..i kinda liked it there ;)
43 players at your regionals translates to about 70 total at Nationals. California is on the very edge of the country, and don't say "like New York" because it isn't. The vast majority of players live eastern-midwest and east from there.NY even had low numbers...
That said, GA for Natz '09!
North Central Regionals had 40+ (easily) as well as players from 5 or 6 different states.
Daniel/Daniel/Kirk/RR/colin arebetter 8)North Central Regionals had 40+ (easily) as well as players from 5 or 6 different states.
+1. i was there.
nc regionals was a blast. the host was a totally awesome guy (he even handed out orientation folders!), and who doesnt like hanging out with chris bany and kevin shride? :)

I personally think it's a bad Idea to put Nats in California because yes you had X people but that X number of people is probably not enough to support a national tournament, and you can't count on people traveling out to Cali in the middle off the summer when everything is the most expensiveThat last argument doesn't work. NY is Very pricey.
I would't mind taking a trip to California. I think they should have a Nationals sometime soon. I would just make it part of a family vacation.
Well, as long as I can remember we GA people have been waiting for Natz way before you CA people even thought about it. Poor Eric *No pants* Largent is still waiting for his turn. Year after year we've been turned down, it's our turn!!!!!!!!! :'(
you can't count on people traveling out to Cali in the middle off the summer when everything is the most expensive
all you from CA do realize the reasons you can't come out to us are same reasons we can't come to you

If Rob would put Nats anywhere permanently it should be either Iowa or Minnesotano it shouldn't

in the words of myself on my show av Shav: "Wha?"
in the words of myself on my show av Shav: "Wha?"come up with a reason of why it should be in TN! nobody is going to move nats for one person, I'm sorry to say, but they choose nats for large playgroups in good locations for the majority.
Disneyland is boring. Disney World is where it's at.
:2cents:This is the first time that I have ever seen this used!!!
Or they chose locations really close to cool locations like DISNEYLAND!!!! ::) California for Nats 09!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;DPfft Fl has epcot, MGM, Animal kingdom AND disney world. We also have Sea world, bush gardens, wonderworks, and probably some things I am forgetting. Not that I am arguing for FL to go cuz we simply don't have a super duper large playgroup atm but as much as attractions go, I think FL is winning. We also have tons of beaches within an hour drive.
Besides... Chuck Norris lives in Southern California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrance,_Ca#Notable_residents).
you all might not know this but chuck norris was in a movie with the greatest martial artist in history: Bruce Lee!!!!Besides... Chuck Norris lives in Southern California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrance,_Ca#Notable_residents).
What if Chuck Norris played Redemption? He could eat Bucklers and create Faithful Servant Promos with his beard.
He helped Huckabee win Iowa... I'm calling him!
all you from CA do realize the reasons you can't come out to us are same reasons we can't come to you
That is an invalid argument. If the regions are the same size, than your argument also states that we can't have it on the east coast because it is too far for US on the west coast to travel.
This whole east coast/west coast problem is easily solved...Have the tournaments in Minnesota!i'm just gonna turn around and walk away cause this is the dumbest comment i'v ever read in my life.

As others have already noted, it comes down to whomever applies.Despite the many variables involved in the selection process, that formula is brilliant and simple. Furthermore, it is dependable. +1
Ideally, though, a rotation like the following could work well:
Northern mideast/midwest
Southern mideast/midwest
East
Northern mideast/midwest
Southern mideast/midwest
West
Northern mideast/midwest
Southern mideast/midwest
East
Northern mideast/midwest
Southern mideast/midwest
West
Once every 6 years, the East and West could get a Nats while 4 out of every 6 years most of the Redemption community would get to attend Nats.
My vote is either:and me too, right Bryon? :P ;)
1) CA if Rob can afford to fly
2) NC/Georgia if Rob needs it close to home
I really, really want it in CA this year. It is once in 15 years for the west side of the Rockies. However, if Cactus needs to save $ due to the current economy, then I'd pay to fly Kurt and I to GA/NC so Rob could have a short drive.

Mark your calanders for March 7th, 2009.
With gas prices down we expect Kansas to be back, along with Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa. Maybe the Canadians will make it this year. And with Nationals being in California this year who knows maybe the Georgians will put in an appearence since they might not make it to Nationals.
Details to follow after the new year.
Were warming up for everybody. Last Friday at game night we put a game together to challenge BmJayBee83 our very own 2nd place finisher at 2008 Nathionals in Type 2 Multi player. We put him at a table with one Random High School Kid, one Random College Student and one Random Old Guy. He placed 4th. Life is tough here in the North Country.
Stay warm this winter, keep your long underwear on. We do.

California is a city in Minnesota.
California is a city in Minnesota.Thankfully, my third grade teacher spent three weeks on context clues, which proves:
On a related note, we've got a Minnesota, CA. In fact, it's mere miles from Anderson, CA.but that wouldn't be Minnesota, that would be Callifornia, where as
California is amakes everyone happy, because Minnesota can be 2 states at once. more amazing Minnesota facts.citystate in Minnesota.
Well, MN certainly has enough lakes for more than one state. ;)
Do you hear that Marylanders (is that a word...? People who live in Maryland). We have exact 11,842 more lakes than you! Go ahead, we'll let you wish you were as cool as us :PWell, MN certainly has enough lakes for more than one state. ;)
Yup, Minnesota, Land of 11,842 Lakes.
EDIT: To those who don't know; Maryland doesn't have any (natural) lakes.g
Not to one up Minnesota or anything (come to think of it that's exactly why) Manitoba is the land of 100 000 lakes.
Yup, Minnesota, Land of 11,842 Lakes. We've got a basketball team out here named after your lakes...
Not to one up all of you at the same time, but California has the pacific ocean, which pwns all over your puny lakes.
The Lakers.
They were named after the lakes in MN, where the team was first organized (before the team moved to Los Angeles).
So your claiming because the Romans were amazing, you get the pacific?
nats in AL!
Africa 09! lolwhere in Africa? you mean there are going to be 2 national tournaments?!!!! which one is Rob going to?!!! :o

He was likely saying "oops" about the confusion on whether he wants Nats in AL or not. Several of us have posted about it within the last ten posts of this thread.

Thankyou is a funny-looking word; it looks Japanese at first glance.
That could contribute to the Japaneseiness.
I'm probably weighing in a little late on this topic, but my personal choice would be CA for 2009 because 1. They deserve it 2. They've got the numbers and 3. I probably won't be able to go in 2009 anyway with my wedding being around that time.
THEN, in 2010 let's shoot for GA. That way I can help with the hosting, and get our tournaments back rolling by that time.
So yea,
2009 - CA
2010 - GA

CA is waay to expensive for our whole family to go.
Megabus. Megabus! Megabus!!!
I don't think that goes to CA... let me checkCA is waay to expensive for our whole family to go.
Megabus. Megabus! Megabus!!!
We will just rent a coach. I bet we could fill it up with people from the Midwest and Canada.
Redemptionbus! Redemptionbus!! Redemptionbus!!!
I just grabbed a quick quote to rent a coach from St. Paul to Hollywood in early August. The cost per person would be around $300 if we had 55 people interested. Beats airfare.
Actually, it would probably just interrupt and prevent.interrupt + prevent=negate. either way, it's going to be expensive either way.
Buh-Dum-Ching!
Florida 09 BABY!!! :prayer:errrm its beyond a doubt that its either Ga OR Ca
errrm its beyond a doubt that its either Ga OR CaI hate to state the obvious, but this is inaccurate. Georgia and California have gotten the most support on the forum so far. However the actual choosing of the Nats location is completely up to Rob, and could take into account many factors which have not even been brought up here on the forum. Therefore, Nats '09 could actually be in almost any state at this point.
Well, I don't know much about location myself, but I'm beginning to have a feeling that I will never be able to make it to nationals. :'( The last time it was in MN, I had to go to a funeral, and my dad won't take me further than an hour's drive from home....So everyone just go on without me. *sniffle, sniffle* I'll be fine. :'(
There's an airport in IOWA?!?!?!! ahaha. ;D
There's an airport in IOWA?!?!?!! ahaha. ;D
Yes, it's actually just a patch of grass next to a corn field and we only fly those old biplanes but we call it an airport...
CA for Nats '09. (please please please I really want to go to a Nats before I get old :) )there are many more others who want to go before they get old too... like BubbleBoy. the majority is closer to Iowa, and we had just as big a regionals as the CA people did.

Although he couldn't make it, he's had a couple shots at it being within a hour or so of him. Couldn't we Cali's have a shot at it being within a couple hours of us?CA is much further away then IA for the people on the east coast. I will say it again, you're asking more people to do exactly what you would do.
If you put Nats in CA you automatically alienate 2/3 of the Redemption community Iowa on the other hand is manageable distance to travel from both coastsIowa is questionably reasonable driving distance for me, and I'm in KY (only halfway to the coast from Iowa). It is definitely not reasonable driving distance for someone living anywhere on the East or West coasts. That means someone living there would probably have to fly to get there. And as long as people are flying, then it really doesn't matter where Nats is, because flight times won't be significantly different.
2008 - OH
2007 - MO

Basically, no one out west has been able to come to Nats without flying EVER. It is their turn to get to have Nats withing reasonable driving distance for all of them that don't have the money to fly.
so basically, you want the west coast to have their own little nats party, plus a few people who found enough money to afford it?
Given the economic times, Why not make the regional tourney's a little more interesting? Charge more per Regional participant with the awards being that the Regional 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners having their commuting expenses paid for by the Regional entry fees to a NATS tourney, with at large invitations to the Regional RNRS point leaders (no expenses paid) and invitations to local 1st place winners (no expenses paid) to participate if they can afford it.
Wow now that would be a NATS tourney. ;D
[YMT's most excellent little rant mostly deleted--mjb]
What happened to the whole "first shall be last" Christian attitude? Why can't we put others' interest before our own? Based on the list of prior Natz, it appears that is exactly what the west coasters have been doing for almost ten years.
I've become busy with buying a house and getting ready to go back to school to become a Math teacher

Although I would tend to agree with most of the sentiments YMT has expressed, I would point out that the desire to have the largest number of players possible attend Nationals is not a selfish interest. I would prefer it is some way could be to maximize the turnout even given a West Coast location.
Maybe announcing a West Coast Nats for 2010 (barring unforeseen circumstances) at the same time as the 2009 Nats announcement would be a good thing. It would give everyone on this side of the Atlantic continental divide an extra year to arrange vacation schedules or save up a bit extra for flying out. It would also give the West Coast play groups a two year bump for recruitment. Lastly, it would allow the negative nellies a chance to adjust their attitudes a bit.
I'm just spitballin' here. As I see I was instaposted, I wish JSB23 would let me post my own ideas.
To be honest with you I would like to see a 2 year notice for ALL Nats locations. This would allow for vacation planning for families to try and attend.
I know some of the top players from around the country may not be able to make it but there are good players on the West who can't make it to other Nats in order to show our skill.
Was the Natz in New York City a "little east coast party?"
Since then, I have not been able to make either of the other Natz because they were both in the Midwest. I certainly cannot afford a trip half-way across the country.
Many people will not be able to travel no matter where Natz is held. Why not let the west coast have their first (and with present sentiment, perhaps only) Natz?
What happened to the whole "first shall be last" Christian attitude? Why can't we put others' interest before our own?
Again, numbers should not be the most important detail.
Your opinion is selfish for the exact reasons you gave above: it is still too far for the west-coasters - "more than halfway across the country" were your words.
I think there needs to be a consideration of a whole segment of Redemption loyalists who have thus far been pushed aside for the convenience of others. It's the west coast's time and that time is now.
So there's no comparing New York to Cali just because they happen to be next to the blue parts of the map.Neither would I recommend a Nationals in London just because England has never had one and there are 5 people over there who have never been allowed to host.
Hmmmm....... so I'm not allowed to compare a west coast Natz to a NYC Natz, but you are allowed to compare one to London? What personal gain do I seek for having the Nationals in any particular location, West Coast or not?You live in Fl why in the world ae you pushing to go across the country..you have to have some good reason like"Oh we we're already going to visit family there so nats would be perfect"
Ummm..... you would get to go?QuoteUltimately, only the people who submit a bid are going to be considered in the first place, and among them Rob will choose whom he chooses.
So you are suggesting that the west coast has never submitted a bid? How many bids have they sent that were turned down? It would appear that all of them have. After a while (like 10 years maybe), I would give up trying, too.
I realize that Rob is the final decision for whatever reasons he chooses, I just am presenting an argument for why the west coast should be that choice this year. FWIW, my "selfish" remark was directed originally at the people who were giving selfish reasons. We all have our reasons, but I think the west coast deserves one more than any other region. That's all I really intend.
Hmmmm....... so I'm not allowed to compare a west coast Natz to a NYC Natz, but you are allowed to compare one to London?

FWIW, my "selfish" remark was directed originally at the people who were giving selfish reasons.
So far the only challenge to that has been "geographic suitability" and "numbers." I find those reasons to be selfish, at this point of the discussion, as a response to "Why not the west coast?"
You were comparing the bid of a west coaster to that of a Londoner, "just because England has never had one." I am calling your logic into question.
I was talking about why the West Coast deserves a NAtz and you were countering my position. I agree with what I just quoted, but submitting a bid hasn't done them any good so far.
The remark that you orginially quoted was my response to Ring Wraith, whose answer was selfish. You then quoted me and ran with it.
So far the only challenge to that has been "geographic suitability" and "numbers." I find those reasons to be selfish, at this point of the discussion, as a response to "Why not the west coast?"
This isn't about you and me, Schaef, so I don't want the back and forth. Don't you agree that they should get it at least once?

I think it should be held in Virginia...Minnesota. (Just kidding.)that's up in northern minnesota. it's like: Virginia, Minnesota, Minnesota. it's further out of the way then cali! Somewhere, Virginia, Minnesota wouldn't be bad though...
That's the spirit!...Although I still will probably not be able to come.Unless its in Ga you won't see me :'(
I say that if it's in MN - lets break the 05' attendance record.FIXED!
Well... it's way into Januray... have you decided yet, Rob?

Godspeed,

Hmmmmm... First Bryon returns to the boards, and then Rob announces he has made a decision about the location for Nats '09.
Coincidence?
Hmmm, would anyone like to enlighten me on where Bryon lives :)

how far is Phoenix, AZ from Bryon/South. Cal? Provided I sale my house and take a family vacation out west...provided that is where Nats is...which i have a sneaking suspicion it is because it's due and they deserve one. (what a run on)
Wow, i'd like to point out I had no real knowledge of his location other than around LA. Woo for guessin!
XD
If memory serve correctly, he's around 40 miles from Magic Mountain (haven't driven down there since last year).

[Bryon hosts tournaments in Arcadia, which is the next city over from Pasedena (Pasedena is where the Rose Pararde is). However, last I heard, the plan for Nats is to have it about 20 miles west of the usual place down the 101 in Simi Valley or Thousand Oaks in order to have enough room.I think you meant Garden Grove.

Come on guys.... All you guys on the east are ALWAYS closer to every Nats than we have ever been to any Nats. It makes logical sense to have it in CA.
The last MN nationals was in 2005. The last three tournaments were in New York, Kansas City, and Columbus.
And what would that "likely winner" be? You have no clue where it is going. In addition, you have no clue what Rob will choose....
And what would that "likely winner" be? You have no clue where it is going. In addition, you have no clue what Rob will choose....
They'll be forgotten by next year, so just wait until then to start that up again.Come on.... Stop jabbing.
Thus, it is entirely pointless to make remarks about how you think the west coast so desperately needs a Nationals.Sounds good. I was not updated on the status of Nats.
Maybe someday we can all meet more regularly to play in full immersion VR, or at least in a really good community software program like that other game has...?
I wish Elkhart/Southbend had a thriving Redemption community like MN does. Man, have I tried! It's like this area is coated with satanic anti-Redemption teflon! (Thus precluding it from Natz, even if my bros from OH and MN would come and help). Mayhaps my seeds just haven't sprung up yet? Natz (or ANY tournament) would be easy to get to here for a whole lotta folks. This is the crossroads of America. At any rate, congrats and mozzeltof to for getting the nod. Have fun! Maybe I can go this year? Weirder things have happened to me already since 09 started!
Then I'll at least get 3rd. ;)Maybe someday we can all meet more regularly to play in full immersion VR, or at least in a really good community software program like that other game has...?

YES I agree have fun with your 3 players ;D

Somehow if there were only three players I would still end up finishing fourth. :'(

If only. My biggest obstacle here in the Rogue Valley have been churches! Which is the pinnacle of irony as Oregon is the least-churched state per capita. :-\
I may just try the local secular gaming store (MtG, etc.). At least I have some motivation this year.Somehow if there were only three players I would still end up finishing fourth. :'(
Woo hoo! I get fifth!! :D
Well... it's way into Januray... have you decided yet, Rob?
Yes. I am just waiting for the hosts to confirm the Church is available for the dates we have in mind.
Ha! He did respond! So: ;D :D :P ;) :-*Well... it's way into Januray... have you decided yet, Rob?not like he's going to ever see this post...
I know I am a little late to te conversation but does anyone know if someone has already put in an application to host nats? I mean, if none of the other locations have put in an app, then its going to be hard to host one there!

I know of four different groups that were developing a proposal to host Nationals. I discussed the proposal of one group with the other three potential hosts. Everyone threw their support behind the first group saying words to the effect of, "It's really their turn and I can't think of anyone more deserving." The only issue is that the dates the group proposed conflict with a trade show I need to cover in NJ August 4 to 7th. They are confirming that they can lock in the venue (Church) July 30 to August 1st (our first choice) or August 13th to 15th (our second choice). I haven't announced the site because I am waiting to make sure we have a place to play. If for some reason that fails, then one of the other potential hosts/sites will be reactivated.
I am hoping to be making an announcement later this week.
Blessings,
Rob
NJ?!no no no. he needs to be in NJ at the time of the proposed nationals.
are you kidding me?!
It's in CA, isn't it? :'(

If you don't make it you don't make it...and just because unemployment rates are bad, does not mean you can't get a job....just not a traditional one...do services for people, rake leaves, clean gardens, plant flowers, mow when it gets warmer, wash windows, dust, vacuum, things like that for people who may not have a lot...but at the least you should be able to get about 5.00 an hour...just some thoughts friend, take it for what its worth. But an I can't attitude gets you nowhere...well some of those are stuff i can do around the house and get paid so i guess that'll be a #1 option

Nat '09 is clearly going to go to Minnesota. :D

what if i accept your challenge and i don't make it?Then you have made a decision and given it your best shot and failed. But, you will be better off than someone who didn't even try! You will have grown in character, which is of eternal value. Also, think of this: the rudder can't turn the ship if the ship isn't moving. How can God direct your steps if don't take any?
How can God direct your steps if don't take any?how can i take those steps if i don't know where to go?
Are you afraid to make mistakes? You will, that's life. Go do something and God will lead you in the processHow can God direct your steps if don't take any?how can i take those steps if i don't know where to go?
I think your hiding behind that. I know people far mroe handicapped than you are by mental problems that have found jobs. There are completely retarded adults, who have 9 year old minds, who function as stockers at grocery stores. It can happen if you try.+1
i maybe an adult but i have something that nobody here understands or think i'm just saying it as an excuse when all i'm doing is twlling the truth, which is i have a mental problem called "Aspurger Syndrome"RBW your saying i'm using it as an excuse when i'm tellin the truth
(don't yell I quit the first day and don't yell at customers for being "mean" )
Sarcasm I hope and pray(don't yell I quit the first day and don't yell at customers for being "mean" )
Rats! Does that mean I can't yell at my students for being mean? >:(
lol... in reality, I suppose a tongue lashing is the best you can do anymore.
Rules these days... I thought the point of school was to hurt their feelings and destroy their ideals, all of this is REDefining the purpose of school! I think we should REDeploy the original tactics that convinced people of that purpose in the first place; as I feel that will be much easier than to REDact some new guide lines. Those may be the only things that can possibly REDeem school. I feel a 70's era REDux reviving itself!lol... in reality, I suppose a tongue lashing is the best you can do anymore.
Nope. I can't even use red ink to grade tests because it may hurt someone's feelings to see all that RED. :o
KY for nats 09!As much as I would love for Nats to be in KY, I don't really understand why you would include us in your list. You haven't come to any of our tournaments yet (including large ones like States and Regionals). You don't even go to tournaments in TN. I am beginning to doubt whether you would attend Nats if it were anywhere other than your house :)
Nope. I can't even use red ink to grade tests because it may hurt someone's feelings to see all that RED. :oI grade in red ink all the time. Private schools FTW :)
of course i go to TN tournaments but not often cause some TN tournaments are just closed localsI go to locals. I drive two hours every month for Bryon's locals. That's why I can vouch for California. But I see prof's point. You can't not go to any lower-level tournies and then want to have natz. It just doesn't work that way.
well i'v noticed for the past few years i'v missed awesome/hilarious nationalsthanks for ignoring everything I said. We ALL want to go to natz, and we ALL missed those exact same thing. My point is that if you don't even go to the small tournies, why should you be able to vouch for the big one?
one nats with cheerleaders, one nats with tim maly getting a mohawk and in the same tourney people sing a rendition of "We will rock you" and again in the same tournament, "The Kiss" happened to kevin shride and nats 08 there was a marriage proposal.
if you were me you'd understand and be just as irritated as i am.
i'd go to nationals but it depends on the fee and the city and state that'll host it.
I was thinking about grading in invisible ink and making them go over to a blacklight to see their grade. ::)
As I see that there has been no official final word on the location of Natz 09, and since I live 1 1/2 hours from Atlanta, I most definitely would throw all my support behind Cali.
metalpsalm, the problem is not i think about myself.
i don't think about myself.
my problem with missing nats is i miss oppertunities to meet people on the boards in person and to have fun.
Should I be person #351 to say "the decision has already been made, so quit whining about it", or should I just let it rest? ;)let it rest. we just don't know fo-sho where it is, there's always hope for GA or IA (they haven't had a nats there... ... ...)
