I'm sure I'll be ridiculously busy that day, but who knows, crazier things have happened...I might just pop in for a game or three.

I have a feeling this might be BubbleBoy's big breakthrough and turn to win type 1-2 player.

Well in that case, there's no sense in me going...Ha, just kidding. I'll try to make sure there's at least one Alstad to stand in the way of Bubbleboy's victory. But like I said, my attendance is highly tentative.

I could give you some appearance money, like they do at the big track meets for big track stars. Besides, your the Alstad I like to play the most (because I have beaten you the least).

Any chance you could give me a project dealing with Digital Signal Processing instead? That would be much more helpful then money...

Both of us know that can never happen with my condition. RDS (Restless Deck Syndrome) makes the victim unable to use the same deck at a tournament more than once, severely debilitating his ability to master the use of any set of cards and thus his ability to win tournaments. However, it does make gameplay much more enjoyable, as you are playing with different strategies all the time. ;D

You might get lucky and build that ever elusive unbeatable deck. I have built many but then I played someone.

You could borrow Proffessors DSP combine it with your RDS and come up with that UBD until you run into a RLK. :D

Howzabout applying DSP to financial market data to smooth random fluctuations and extract meaningful trends? You can make way more money as a quant than you'll ever make in legitimate pursuits.

Hopefully you can stop by to try and win the tournament. We haven't had to many "out of towners" or "out of staters" to pick on this tournament season yet.

Well, it seems that tomorrow will be busy for me, but I may still be able to see about that booster draft game...I'm guessing it would begin around 3ish? It may not work out, but you never know for sure.

The more Alstad's the better. I might have to play Booster draft if you come. 3ish sounds about right. Call me on my cell phone if you can make it. 952-838-5998

Yay! Dreams really do come true. ;)

In all honesty, I have to attribute at least some of my success to luck. In two of my games, I had some long LS dry spells, and in my last game, my opponent drew almost no defense until I had already made three or four walk-ins. Also, Martin wasn't there, and I'm rarely able to beat him.

Finally figured out the password for my old account.  Anyways, yeah, I got third in type one 2-player!  Has Matt posted his complaints about cell phone use during tournament games?  He gave his consent for me to answer send a text during the game, but then said it cost him the game and he would have won at the end...so confusing.  :-\/

Wait...who are you?

You can ignore him. He has red hair* and cannot be trusted.

Of all the sneaky tricks...Whipping out a cell phone and taking like twenty minutes in text someone. And then I run out of time just as my offense is about to crush the remnants of his tattered defenses.

OK, so maybe it wasn't quite twenty minutes.  But it was darn sure at least twenty full seconds. Cost me the game it did.

OK, so maybe it didn't quite cost me the game. But it might have under other circumstances.

*The bit about red hair was just so you can place the face. You shouldn't ignore him and if you do, it shouldn't be because he has red hair.

...so confusing.  :-\/

Ha! And you thought my original account of what happened was confusing. Try to explain what I was thinking of when I wrote the above.

Isaac doesn't play as much as some of us. He is, however, a fairly decent player when he plays.

Agreed.  Well, not to say that I don't win, but my wins are typically by one or two points.  I got lucky on the very last game, springboarding me up without ever actually having to play somebody out of my range (aka Nathan, Josh, or whoever-your-name-is).  BTW, is there some sort of list of people in our region and their usernames on this page?

on a side note, does anybody know if we're doing a certain annual draft that (as far as I know) we didn't do last year?

Don't think we are doing a Booster Draft this year. We have a District Tournament on January 2. I don't have two weeks off of school this year and I'm going to Wisconsin to visit my folks. Nathan and I were going to come down to Austin this weekend for your tournament but the Neighbor had a big oak tree dropped in his yard and if I want the wood I have to cut it up on Saturday. Maybe we could do it in the Spring. We should do a type 2 Booster draft using every thing.(RoA, FooF, Treasures, etc.....) Matt Brinkman Wants to do a Team Tournament.

Sad! it would have been awesome to do it! although, it's probably a good thing because I have school to do and I shouldn't be staying too late at the church. T2 booster would be intense. We did an everything draft (minus WA, we had Womens though) last year, but that was type one, and the decks were insanely good. we paired the tins defenses together, so it wasn't quite totally drafted, but it was a blast.

T2 booster would be intense.

Here's the story of a T2 holiday draft...

1) Spend thirty minutes drafting.
2) Go to build your deck.
3) Realize you don't have enough good cards to balance evil cards (or vice-versa).
4) Give up and go drink egg nog.
5) Jayden Alstad wins unopposed because he is the only one wicked smart enough to keep track of good vs evil count on the fly in his head.  (Plus, I'm not sure he likes egg nog.)
6) Declare the tournament a success and plan to play again next year.

Wraith, you need to see if you and 'Sauce can come up for the Jan 2nd local.  Nathan and I would love to beat play against you guys in teams.

New idea--negative prizes.  I just found a place that stocks 20 ounce bottles of Big Red soda. I am going to pick up one of those bottles for the Jan 2nd Teams tournament. The team that comes in last place at the event has to split the bottle and drink it down. What say ye?

Make sure you show up at the Jan 2nd District and I will have an extra bottle for you. Think of it as a congratulatory engagament present.

Alls I knows is that at the NC Regionals last year, I brought in a case of Big Red as a soda option for lunches. I ended up refunding the soda money of everyone who purchased Big Red. Not only could't I give the stuff away, kids were offering to pay people to drink it with no takers. I believe it was Ring Wraith who described it thusly...

"Imagine someone chewed bubble gum and Dentyne at the same time. Take the chewed gum out of their mouth and wring it into a glass with ice cubes. Now think of something twice as nasty."

Hey,

Now all we need are Tim and Gabe to show up. Well forget Tim, he only comes to our locals.

What does the forecast look like for that weekend?  I made the trip to MN (actually from MN) in a blizzard once and I'd rather not do so again.  But attending your January 2nd district has crossed my mind.  I'm just not sure when I'd sleep that weekend if I added 14 hours of driving to the typical new years eve all nighter.

Unfortunately, the furthest out we have is the 10-day which takes us through Christmas Eve.  We'll have our trained weather spotters let you know in a week or so.

If you could convince Gil to come you two could switch off driving/sleeping in the car.
