Why have we moved the dates back so late?  I know most of the country doesn't start back until after Labor Day, but these dates completely eliminate any possibility of me bring several students with me.  This is not a complaint (as I don't know how many I could bring), just a genuine question.

These dates were suggested to me so I obliged.  I believe the primary reason was access to judges and to allow Rob to be in attendance.

Welcome back Blake! Any chance of getting Dayne back for at least this year?

Jerome actually left for the world race last week and will not be state side again until December 2020 so sadly he still wont be here.

Do we know if this is going to be more of a "new trend" or just maybe something for this year?  I know Rob has a convention/conference around the last weekend of July most years, so this helps him a lot.  Just curious for future planning.

I cannot comment on if this is a trend setting date other than to stay that was not communicated to me in anyway.

@RDT they do although I am not sure how extensive they are anymore.  The last I heard you stand on a balcony and look down at the factory.

The later date of Nationals is fantastic for my youth group since we have our annual summer camp the last week of July every year. Now we could actually bring a group to Nationals this year since the date has been moved back. Not sure we can make the trek all the way from OR to PA but who knows!

Let me speak with Rob about prize support before I give a final answer but at worst I see them being available as side events.

See everyone there.

The date decision was driven by my schedule.  I have the Christian Product Expo– Wilmington, DE Aug 16 - 18.

Well Dayne's unsure, but he didn't rule out the possibility of him stopping by to visit and maybe playing sealed.  I wouldn't get hopes up for him coming, but its not out of the realm of possibility.

Maybe I was over estimating but I mapped the time/distance from my house in Hagerstown to the church address and google says 1 hour 10 minutes.  I do remember thinking I would need to give myself 2 hours.  My schedule is just very hard to fit in driving that far while also leaving my wife stranded. (we only have 1 car)

Title: Re: Redemption National Tournament 2020!!! (Get Hyped)
Post by: jbeers285 on January 20, 2020, 12:37:22 PM
Type-A has a loose 12 year old age limit.
I believe the stipulations also include have a lifetime RNRS score of 0 for all categories.

(Last year a player from group had turned 13 only a couple weeks before nationals and had never been able place at any other tournament, after discussion with the judges, they allowed him to play Type A last year. He did go on to win Type A.)

The fact that he won could be used towards a hard age cap of 12 though.  I believe Derek probably would have gone 1-6 or 0-7 had he played in the general tournament though.

Post by: Ken4Christ4ever on January 20, 2020, 12:43:36 PM
Is there a minimum age for Type A? I don't recall, but I think they are not allowed to get any help from parents on what cards do, so I assume they need to be able to understand at least all of their abilities.

I don't believe there’s a minimum age. So long as the child knows how to play and has a decent understanding of the game is what qualifies him/her to play.

Will it be wrong for this upcoming Nats to change its name to the Redemption World Tournament if only to honor Canada (who has been a participant) and future nations who might have players participating in the near future? I declare that because we now have players at least from Germany as well. Today at LEAD2020, the seeds of Redemption are going to be planted in Australia. Moreover, the Royal Rangers International leadership at LEAD202O also today has already embraced Redemption and we declare the game to be planted in each of its 93 countries.

Would Cactus then allow the renaming of the 2020 Nats to the 2020 Worlds? ;)

COVID-19 Update

I have just received the final permissions to go ahead with the National tournament as planned!  I am grateful to my church, church board and senior Pastor for allowing this event to continue as planned!

Many of you have probably been wondering what was going to happen but we are going to run Nationals as planned!

Things to Note
1. We are not going to require masks but if you desire to wear one please feel free.
2. We are asking every player to bring a pack of baby wipes to wipe off the table where you played in between rounds.
3. The church will not supply hand sanitizer, if you want some please bring it along.
4. We request that no hugging or handshakes take place.  If contact is necessary please use an elbow bump.  (We will not be enforcing this but it is a request)
5. Food is going to be available at the church for purchase.  (Details will be worked out concerning Covid-19.  We will be diligent in using safe practice in all preparation.)

Soon as we see the next single Canadian or even Reth (Germany) in a future Nats, we must immediately rename the tournament as Redemption World Tournament since it's the logical name to give it!

Prayers up for safe travels to the 2020 Redemption World Tournament y'all!

Be blessed and prosper!

That’s rough having booster along with the multiplayer games. Why not have booster along with sealed and LoC-2 player, and then have the multis with teams on one day? Wouldn’t people rather want to do both booster and another multi rather than choose only one?

The multi categories see the least amount of play within the entire community.  There are people who love multi, but that seems to be few and far between now a days.

You have to go back to 2013 to find where a multi category wasn't in the bottom 3 numbers at Nats (minus Type A of course), and most of the time the two multi categories were the bottom two in numbers.

Booster and Sealed are pretty much always the two most popular categories outside of T1-2 player. Wouldn't make sense to run them at the same time.

I didn't realize multiplayer was THAT unpopular, and I don't understand why sealed deck is so popular...why do people like to pay for sealed if most of the product they are getting are starter deck cards? Do people like the simplicity of using primarily starter deck cards? I guess to me the cost outweighs the enjoyment (or lack of) due to using more basic cards.
Title: Re: We are Having Nationals 2020 in PA! (Please check for updated schedule)
Post by: landonh5 on July 07, 2020, 04:06:08 PM
What attracts me to a booster or sealed style of play is the simplicity, but more so it seems to level the playing field. T1 and T2 are kind of like the MLB, you can spend till your heart is content on the best players (cards) to get what you want, but you still need to know how to utilize the skills of a stacked deck. Sealed and booster are more like salary cap sports (NHL, NBA, NFL). You only have a finite amount to spend (i.e. price of entering that style of play, which everyone is subject to), but everyone is working with the same style of cards. You may get a Patrick Mahomes, or you might get a Johnny Manziel; but chances are you aren't gonna have any David vs. Goliath games, but you aren't gonna get any All-Star games either.

That makes a lot of sense. I guess I just don’t see the enjoyment in having at of your cards spoken for when playing specifically sealed deck. Part of the thrill of booster is the chance of getting the chase cards and sealed deck only offers three packs (three chances) for that. Booster gives much more opportunity for chase cards, and if you get a few of them it can really put you in a great position to go far

My group plays a lot of sealed because we have been able to do some fundraisers that allows my younger (without job) students to be able to buy the packs and I just reuse the I/J decks to save money for them.  This allows them to be able to compete with me on a "more even" level and also gives them the chance to pull cards they don't have, then I trade for their cards they already have, so it helps slowly build their collection and gives them a chance to compete with me.

I'm excited to announce that Your Turn Games has partnered with Josiah to be the official supplier of product at this year's National tournament!  Furthermore, the Nationals registration page is now available! Please go to the below registration page at YTG and fill out this simple registration form between now and 07/31/20.  It is IMPORTANT that you fill out this form by 07/31/20 so we can have an accurate headcount for logistical purposes, and so we know how much product we need from Cactus for closed deck events.

We hope to see you there!
