Title: Redemption Cash
Post by: Crashfach2002 on February 11, 2011, 01:47:20 PM
Thanks to one of my playgroup members.  I found out that some Redemption Cash has experiation dates on them.  Is this so that it pushes people to use it, or is Cactus trying to get rid of it?  I hope the it is the first choice and not the latter!

I believe it is so people use it sooner rather than "too much" later. My guess is that Rob would prefer not to have so much of it "outstanding."

As far as I know, there is no plan to get rid of the Redemption Cash system.

I've only ever seen Redemption Cash once or twice, how exactly do you acquire it?

Um win tournaments where it's offered?

I emailed Rob about this last year after getting outdated Redemption Cash at NC Regionals. I'm not sure what his policy was, but he said he was fine taking the expired cash, and I didn't even mention that it was expired when I won it.

(Actually, now that I come to think of it, it was earlier than that when I emailed him. Must have gotten it somewhere else).

I've only seen it once or twice as well. Do you know if it's prefferd over packs?

Then why doesn't every tournament have them?

You can only get them at official tournaments.  Even then, the host chooses between packs and Redemption Cash.

I prefer to use Redemption Cash since, I can trade it or get anything at Cactus Game Design with it.

Redemption Cash is probably more of a hassle for the host beings many hosts stock packs anyway.

I personally like it because you can pay for half of your tournament with it.  So if I win, I get to turn around and use it on my next tournament.  If one of my other guys win it, they sometimes trade it back to me for my extra packs, then I get to use it for tournaments too.  Then if I get a ton of it, I can get my packs from Cactus with it and only pay shipping.

If you have a lot of new players in the group, I would recommend boosters packs over the cash because it may overwhelm them. It would just be easier to hand them packs than making them go through the hassle to acquire enough cash to get some prizes, then mail it over to cactus, along with a check and wait some days to finally get the prize. If you've noticed, a lot of new players are very eagar and impatient to get their hands on cards. I would recommend feeding that intense hunger for the game with easy to get & tanglible booster packs over redemption cash.

As their experience grows and collection grows, they'll want to acquire newer cards and the redemption cash lets you get TxP & Disciple packs unlike the prize support of redemption tournaments which only reward players with actual "booster packs" rather than the box sets expansions like TxP & Disciples.

Not to mention it's a pain to break down redemption cash if the tournament results in a lot of ties, I've had problems where there wasn't enough change in the form of redemption cash to evenally distribute to the players that were tied.

Well, if you host a tournament you could only choose one. Either booster packs or cash - not both. If you did, you'd have to do it out of your own pocket.

I get redemption cash as the prizes for my tournaments.  My playgroup plays a ton of sealed deck & booster, so I always have a box of each at my tournaments, so any packs I have extra they can trade their redemption cash for.
