Title: Orlando Local April 23rd
Post by: YourMathTeacher on March 20, 2011, 04:52:10 PM
LOCAL TOURNAMENT

Saturday, April 23rd

The tournament season finally gets started here in Orlando. Now that my baby has passed the 6-week age, my wife is ready to have people in the house again. Getting my tax return helped some, too!

I still have not been able to secure a church for hosting, so keep praying about that. For now, tournaments will continue to be held at my home:

17332 Woodcrest Way
Clermont, FL  34714

I am right near the intersection of Route 192 and US 27, eight miles from Disney World. I have a Wii in the living room and you are welcome to swim in my unheated pool if you wish.

We will be starting at 9:00am, with deck checks beginning at 8:00am. The current category offerings will be:

Type 1 2-Player
Type 1 Multiplayer
TEAMS
Booster Draft (with Disciples)

The tournament cost will be a one-time charge of $5 for all open categories, and a separate $10 charge for Booster Draft. Please bring extra money for food since this will be an all-day event.

This is Orlando, so there are many places to eat out. We can order pizza locally from Hungry Howie's. There is a Wendy's, McDonald's, KFC, and Taco Bell less than a mile from my house. If you are travelling far, overnight accomodations can be arranged. There are a plethora of hotels and vacation homes if you want privacy, but you are welcome to crash at my house if you don't mind a sleeper sofa (unless you are the first to call dibs on the extra Master Suite). ;D

PM or post if you have any questions or just to let me know you are coming.

Make sure your mother comes, too. You know she will want to see my beautiful new baby, and all of you will be playing Booster Draft - no money required.  ;)

Last call for tomorrow's tournament. It looks like we will have up to 5 first-time tournament attendees. PM or post if you are coming and have not yet contacted me. I want to make sure I do not run out of supplies for Booster Draft.

We're wrapping up our final category now. Results so far:

Booster Draft:
1st - Josh Kopp (KarazyVP)
2nd - Josiah Weiss

TEAMS:
1st - Josh & Caleb Kopp
2nd - Joshua Harmon & Mom Kopp

Type 1 2-player:
1st - Josh Kopp
2nd - Joshua Harmon

Our three first-time tournament players are holding their own against the top players, and hopefully we've hooked them for life.  ;D

I was not playing, so I can not give many details. I will let RR tell his own story, but I can say that Andrew's 2nd place T1 Multiplayer deck was angels and Babylonians. My son's 2nd place T1 2-player deck was Priests and demons. At one point in TEAMS, all four players at one table had a King of Tyrus in play (both brigades). For me, the greatest ruling challenge was unfolding cascading negates. Ahhhhh.... old school.  ;D

My deck was old school FBTN, had a great time goofing with people, had some amazing randomness happen, such as my opp who's name I compleeeetely forgot, cut my deck, jokingly said "It'd be funny if I cut straight to your SOG." and sure enough, drew my top card, SOG it was. Just a really fun time, my whole family (barring my dad) came and played which was really great.

That was Joseph... the guy with the bulletproof card-carrying case.

I'm glad your family could come. Your mother was certainly more competitive than I thought she would be.  ;)

I still find it ironic that your mother and my son were partners in TEAMS, and then arch-rivals in Type 1 multiplayer.  ;D
