Open Deck categories (Type-1, Type-2, Teams, Type-A): $10 each
Closed Deck* categories (Sealed and Booster): $20 each
You pay full price for 1 category and half price for your other 2 categories that are equal or lower priced.
(ex/ Sealed Deck is $20 so then Type-1 2-Player is half price at $5 for a total of $25 for both events)
*You keep all cards in the Closed Deck categories.
 
The schedule is as follows (20 minutes between all rounds):

Thursday //  Doors open at 8A.M. and play starts at 9A.M.

                    We will try to be done by 6P.M. including the lunch break.

                    ** To play you must be 12 or younger and have no RNRS points.

                    We will try to be done by 4P.M. including the lunch break.
 
                    At the conclusion of the weekend's events, we will have an Awards Presentation.

There will meals available at the church for breakfast and lunch each day.  For only $15 at the door you will get tickets to enjoy the following:

Breakfast Thursday: Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick w/ Syrup + Water OR Juice
Lunch Thursday: Chick-Fil-A Sandwich + Chips + Water OR Soft Drink
Breakfast Friday: Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit + Water OR Juice
Lunch Friday: Combs Bar-B-Que Pulled Pork Sandwich + Chips + Water OR Soft Drink
Breakfast Saturday: Milton's Donuts (local favorite) + Water OR Juice

All Breakfast items may be substituted by a Pop Tart 2 Pack, a Kashi Granola Bar, an Apple, or a Banana as available.

You will be on your own for dinner unless there are leftovers at the church from lunch, in which case, that will be available ($5 per person for one of the lunch combos listed above including an entree, a side, and a drink; depending on availability).

Great question.  Also, the order of the sets is important too.  I vote that TEC is always the first pack drafted   :D

My ideal draft:

TEC
TexP
Disciples
CoW
PC
...and maybe another pack or two, but that is already 75 cards.  Priests or Womens would be fun. 

This rotates between (mostly) NT and OT packs, and does TEC first, which I like because of all the FooF/RoA cards.

That would be awesome!  I loved that we did that but was slightly disappointed that I couldn't draft too, but I'm just excited to draft the 5 boxes at our State and Regionals this year!

I could see us doing something like what has been suggested already. Not sure we will do all packs but pretty close to it.  ;)  If we were to do all sets hypothetically, what would be a reasonable price for booster (we clearly can't do $15 since that wouldn't even work at cost)?

How many cards would this end up being?  My opinion is, if too many cards are drafted, it makes it too easy to assemble a fantastic booster deck.

Personally, I don't like drafting Unlimited, Prophets, Apostles, or Angel Wars.  Too much junk.  I love boxes, but all 5 already gets you up to 75 cards.  Priests, Kings, Patriarchs, and Womens are nice, but Womens packs have a 1/10 chance of landing a Falling Away. 

I think that 5 boxes, plus Priests/Kings/Patriarchs, would be plenty to have an epic booster...  Maybe 2015 was more epic, and I admit it's more fun the more cards you get to Boost with.  But if this truly going to be the National championship of Booster, it might be best to keep the number of cards drafted around 100 or so, to give a better chance of players' booster skillz shining.

Just some food for thought.  This would also save a bit of money and time as well.

Although I disagree on Apostles not being worth drafting, I agree with jmhartz about the number of cards. 105 cards will give you the chance to build a really solid deck.  :thumbup:

Is 105 how many cards 5 boxes + Patriarchs/Kings/Priests would be?  I can never remember how many cards are in those packs...

More cards = more awesome
I did a super draft with every single redemption box/pack ( including warriors packs from three lions) not too long ago and it was very fun. All of the cards actually made it harder to decide what you wanted to throw in and what to leave out and required a lot of deck building skill to build something cool out of all those cards. Plus you get to keep all of those cards!!!

2015 Nats booster was way too many cards.  The older packs simply don't add enough value for the time you need to take drafting them.  Drafting + deck building felt like it took as much time as two rounds of play.  Even boxes + Kings/Priests/Patriarchs doesn't necessarily seem like the best experience.  I'm definitely in the 'just the boxes' crowd for draft this year, though I'd be ok with a limited number of the foil packs.  Just please not everything!

I'd also like to see us doing the TLG booster rules/structure, though that may be too much to hope for  ;D

If we do all packs including out of print packs (not doubling up on Limited and Unlimited but only using Unlimited) it would put us at about $40 a person for draft. If we trimmed back to something like what JMhartz suggested we would be looking at more like $25 a person. Just wanted to put it into perspective. I don't want to make Booster draft something unattainable for those that cannot be there. What I was originally going to offer with booster draft this year for the $15 was Unlimited, Prophets, Apostles, Patriarchs, Kings, Priests, Angel Wars, Disciples, and Cloud of Witnesses (96 cards if I am correct). I could take out the foil packs altogether and just do Disciples, Thesaurus, Early Church Persecuted Church, and Cloud of Witnsses (75 cards) for about the same cost as well. Thoughts?

Disciples, TxP, EC, PC, and CoW sounds perfect to me. I forgot how expensive adding too many packs could be and I want everyone to be able to play more than having extra cards.

Can we add priests so that the teal and orange cards in the boxes aren't alone? Also it is a way to add characters. The early boxes had terrible character distributions.

This is a big reason I like Priests and Kings added to box drafts - lots of characters.  We don't need Patriarchs, which I think is a little low on characters anyways.

5 boxes + Priests
5 boxes + Priests + Kings

Yes. If we added those, we could do $20 for draft. If we are going to make this change, I will need to get a good amount of support from here and then I will need to update the tournament page to make the price change to draft.

As someone going to Nats specifically for Booster, I'd be happy with Boxes + Priests/Kings, or Boxes + Priests, or even just Boxes. I'll just be there to see some new cards and have fun!

Having done a dozen or so CoW booster drafts (both live and w/ Lackey), I submit the following proposal for Nationals Booster Draft.

Disciples
Early Church
Persecuted Church
Cloud of Witnesses
Unlimited
Prophets

You might be asking "Why Unlimited and Prophets?" Well, the five box packs will typically allow for very strong drafts, but there is a bit of susceptibility to not getting enough characters for the brigades you draft. Adding a couple of the cheaper foil packs (which keeps cost down) allows people to grab the extra 2 or 3 characters they might need to have a really solid deck. (Obviously if you draft Silver or Clay, that won't apply to you, but you know that going in.) In a recent booster draft, I ended up using 6 of the 16 cards I drafted from those two packs (I believe 4 were characters and 2 were enhancements).

You might also be wondering why do those two at the end...since the point of those packs is just the chance of grabbing an extra character or two, it makes more sense to me to draft those last when my offense and defense have been established and it's easy for me to pick between the 4/4 Blue Hero and the 4/4 Gold Hero, one of which is probably useless to me, but the other might be perfect. Since those aren't the packs that will be putting me into brigades, drafting them first becomes mostly pointless IMO.

Just my thoughts...as of now I'm planning to play T2 MP on Thursday anyway, but I'm definitely feeling the pull of Booster with how much fun CoW Booster has been.  8)

I vote for Justin's. Powerful draft is fun, plus unlimited and prophets add stability that kings and priests don't provide.

I get far more playable characters from Kings/Priests than I do from Prophets and Unlimited. Plus it gives us some teal to pair with the teal cards we get in the card boxes.

For sure, and I totally agree that the 5 boxes + Kings/Priests is also a great draft option. My recommendation was also for keeping the cost down a bit. If Travis is willing to do 5 boxes + Kings/Priests at the traditional $20 booster price, that's awesome. However, 5 boxes + unlimited/prophets is also a great deal, and obviously the best use for unlimited and prophets packs is Booster draft.  8)

What will the draft order be?  I'd prefer to do TEC and CoW early, and maybe wrap up with Kings/Priests for the reason Justin stated - pick up characters in the brigades we drafted.

If I am not mistaken, the tournament host guide says the packs are to be drafted oldest to newest. With that in mind, the order will be as follows:

Kings
Priests
TexP
Disciples
Early Church
Persecuted Church
Cloud of Witnesses

Actually the tournament guide does not require a specific order so the host is free to determine what order the draft is  :)

-Each player is responsible for bringing 8 regular lost soul cards (no special abilities) to the table. You
will need 7 lost soul cards if you play a 50 to 56 card deck. You will need 8 lost soul cards if you play a
56 to 63 card deck. If you pull a lost soul card from a pack then you can substitute it for one that you
brought to the table. This is the only way you will be able to play a lost soul card that has a special ability.
- Players look at the cards they drafted and have ten minutes to assemble a deck. Each player will have at
least 54 cards and are allowed to remove cards if they wish. Each player adds the appropriate number of
lost soul cards to their deck to make it legal. When players finish building their decks (or when deckbuilding
time has expired), and after a referee has checked their deck to confirm that it is legal, play
begins.
- Players must play a minimum of fifty cards in their decks.

Allowing players to pick any 2 cards boxes in sealed makes things very interesting as everyone is bound to get a couple solid cards.

Agreed - Presents interesting choices too, do you go Early Church for the Tin cards that are almost always paired up, or CoW for the chance at TSC and You Will Remain

My question is if we allow players two box packs then how many booster packs would they be able to get? Three seems like it is not really enough but four seems to be too much. I have toyed around with the idea of assigning a numerical value to each pack (basically equivalent to retail price and then give players a certain amount of points to "spend" on their supplemental packs to their starter deck. The points system would be something like the following with the caveat that no player may take more than two items from one category (i.e. no Starter Deck and 8 Tier 2 Boosters).

14 points allowed:

Starter Deck - 6 points
Box Packs - 4 points
Tier 1 Boosters - 2 points (Pa, Ap, Pr, Ki, AW)
Tier 2 Boosters - 1 point (Pro, Unl)
 
What do you think? Are there any obvious flaws to this system that I am not seeing?

I am going to be the little kid here and ask, "Why?"

Let's look at the three options which entail a variety of choices of which I will now make broad generalizations about to attempt to make my point...
I take two boxes and I have 30 cards but they are more powerful overall.
I take three packs and I have 30 cards but they are less powerful overall.
I take one box, two tier 1, and 1 tier 2 pack and I have 53+ cards but they are moderately powerful overall.

I guess the third option just adds a bit more flavor in my mind.

I thought you were playing the part of the kid ;)

I'd rather keep things simple. Option 3 above is clearly the best - I get one box which will give me a good chance at a Tin card set, and then 2 shots at good rares. If I get lucky with my tin card and get Edict and can add Samuel via the blue pack that's just gravy.

Why not keep it simple? We don't need to be overly complex with this.

Outside of the "overly complex" pack/box choosing process, are there any obvious flaws. If it would create a great Sealed experience, then why not try it?
