Why don't you post when you have a tournament?

This thread (http://cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=485.0) links to two different places where my tournaments are posted along with everybody else's: the Cactus website and the events calendar on the Nexus (which should be updated again in the next day or two).  That should be plenty.

I submitted an app for Oct. 28, but I'm not sure if I got it in before the deadline.  Even if it doesn't get posted as a sanctioned tournament, we'll probably still do something that day.

Yeah, they have...the thing is, one person can only host Redemption tournaments so often ::)
He won't be able to schedule another tournament the DAY after he just hosted one.

That is true.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments

Those have already happened.

Yes, those already happened... just this past weekend.  In the time since I last posted, Doug posted the 10/28 tourney, so that's on the Cactus list as well, and will be on the Nexus when I do my next batch of tournament updates (tourney hosts can post their own events on the calendar, just PM me if you don't yet have access).

We're working on getting a larger facility to support the larger crowds we're planning to host down the road, which is why we haven't publicized the Columbus tourneys too much, but one way or the other, Tom and I are trying to do a tournament around the last Saturday of each month, so keep watching the calendars.

Post by: The Schaef on October 02, 2006, 10:25:16 PM
It's a bit of a joke, really.  Someone once said that to me, and meant it in a demeaning fashion, but I looked at that and said, you know what, I am an old man playing a child's game, and that's fine with me.  We need to play games, to relax and take time to enjoy ourselves, to remember the joys of our youth because even when time gives us new challenges and new responsibilities, we should not lose that joy.

I know it's a bit of a hike from Bellefontaine, but if you want to hit our tourney on 10/28, you're more than welcome.

Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: The Schaef on October 03, 2006, 04:54:56 PM
Type A is a beginner's category for players under the age of 12 with no RNRS points.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: toad92 on October 03, 2006, 04:56:12 PM
What if you are new you have no points and you are 13?
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: The Schaef on October 03, 2006, 05:35:19 PM
It was created mostly for the small childs which still be learning.  Even at 13, you should be able to pick it up quickly enough to be competitive fairly quickly.  Plus, our playgroup is mostly noobs around your age, so you should be fine playing Type 1 here.

Guess who was thinking about coming to a tournament sometime?

C'mon guess!

Oh ok, I was looking at my cards the other day and they started calling to me...
I dunno if we'll make this one but I'll try and swing down for the next one maybe, it's only 2 hours away now!

Haven't played in ages so if I seem to be forgetting some things you'll know why.

You're always welcome, you and the whole Bryant clan!  We're trying to have an event every month.  We are also trying to find a larger locale than the hallway (you read me right) we are currently using.

I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the nice turnout we had today, and how much it was appreciated.

Aside from having a slightly larger non-Bryant turnout than expected, we also had goldranger make the trek from WV to run the table of all my best players and take first place.  In doing so, he bested my brother-in-law, the reigning champion of our church youth, and Tom the Playtesting Wookiee.  He was also very generous in explaining some strategies and combos to our young players, and even lending/giving a few cards when both Tom and I were brilliant enough to show up without our Enormous Pile of Extra Cards (tm).

More importantly, he had to work to earn his victory, which means our kids are getting better.  The Central Ohio playgroup is on the rise.

I do not think I will be holding any events before the new year, but I am exploring a couple options to get us into larger facilities, so I hope that when 07 rolls around, you all will consider coming out to play some Redemption with us.  I will make sure we have more packs and cards stocked by then, also.  :)

Hey Schaef, just wanted to say it was great to play with you guys and thank you for letting me join you.  I will be there again as provided I am still here or my new youth ministry is close to there (again please pray that I find something soon.) I encourage people to go to the Columbus area and try out the Schaef's tournaments. It is worth going and you can meet some good people. Kentucky also has a couple of spots (Independnce and Jackson) which are good to play too.

Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: mnpaladin on November 07, 2006, 11:42:18 AM
It depends on how many people are there.  If it's not a large amount of people, the round number will probably be 3-4 for Type 1-2 player.

Post by: toad92 on November 07, 2006, 10:39:41 PM
What does this mean Type: All. Closed Deck 2-player ($14.00), Closed Deck Booster Draft ($14.00), Open Categories ($5.00). , what is brigaed scouts?
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: Professoralstad on November 07, 2006, 10:48:53 PM
It means that all types (T1 and T2-2Player, T1 and T2-Multi, Closed deck and booster draft) will be played at the tournament. Closed deck and Booster Draft will each cost $14 to play, all other categories (open categories-meaning you bring your own deck) will cost $5 for you to play. I think Brigade Scouts is a form of Boy Scouts that yoh love aeralee's church hosts (as he said).
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: yoh love aeralee on November 08, 2006, 01:03:42 AM
4 a local booster draft do u pay the $20 or for every pack?
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: Professoralstad on November 08, 2006, 01:13:09 AM
It's only $14, and if you pay that you get all 7 packs (as long as Priests are @ the tourney). It's actually a good deal if you want to buy packs, because its a $18 value for $14.

The tournament in Franklin, OH on Dec. 8-9: Is it a local or district tournament. Last time, I checked the Cactus website, it listed it as a local. Someone on the boards here said it was a district. Does someone know something that I don't? So is it a local or district?

What is a Closed Deck and how can you do one or more tournaments that the same time
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: mnpaladin on November 09, 2006, 11:33:33 AM
Closed deck is where you get 1 50 card starter deck and 3 booster packs of your choice, and build a deck out of the cards, then you play against opponents just like in Type 1 2 player.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: goldranger36 on November 09, 2006, 03:16:35 PM
Closed Deck is a lot of fun and it is interesting to see what you can add to a starter deck to play with. And to answer another question, I live in Huntington, WV.

By the way, not to get off the subject again, but if anyone is curious, Voltron is now being aired on Cartoon Network at 5:30am as of yesterday. To get back on the subject, what are the chances of their being a State Tournament in Ohio and where would it be held?

I would think Columbus and it would be hosted by scheaf so scheaf are you up to the challenge of hosting a state tournament

I'm sorry, I thought I had answered you earlier.  I WAS at Joe's last tournament, he gave me a ton of his old cards to spread among the players if I could, but we didn't have anything for a while after that.  Talking to Rob and Chris at the 05 Nats planted the seed in my mind to start taking big steps in the game: getting tournaments going again, set up the website, sell cards, and eventually bring Nats here.

Obviously the site was the only thing to happen anytime soon after 05 Nats.  Selling cards and doing tournaments has just come together in the last six or eight months, and Nats are a long-term project.  But where I'm going with all this is, I looked way back on what Joe had done for me before he left, and it was sort of the genesis of the idea for The Storehouse, collecting used cards donated from long-time players and reselling them / giving them out to new and growing playgroups.

Our success with tournaments has been promising so far, but limited, but rest assured we're working to bring central Ohio back into the tournament scene in a big way!  :)

The good news is, I can see now on the RNRS rankings that my brother-in-law (Josh Kullberg) and our best young player (Nathan Ensminger) have RNRS points to their credit!  Hooray!  Their names are in the spotlight!  The bad news is, Brian, who drove AAAALLLLL the way from WV to introduce our young playgroup (and Tom) to pain and suffering, had his name spelled "Brain" in the rankings.

"Pinky and the Brain, Pinky and the Brain, one is a genius, the other's insane." (shakes his head and finally comes back to his senses). Yeah, I noticed that my name is spelled Brain in the standings instead of Brian. It would be fun if you could get a district in Columbus. And on the topic of those Minnnesota players, I played quite a bit in Minnesota in 2005-2006 and I can say they have a lot of great players up there, including Prof. Alstad. By the way Scheaf, nice picture of Pinky and the Brain.

Now that I am back from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (went to see parents for Thanksgiving), I can answer Prof. Alstad's question. We have met but not directly. I saw you at the District Tournament earlier this year in Roseville on March 5. You played my friend in Closed Deck and beat him and I think you went on to win it that day. My friend and I came from southwest Wisconsin (at the time I lived there) and we were the only ones from Wisconsin. We came to check out a tournament in Twin Cities and we had fun. Anyway, pray for me. I have to go to Grundy, VA for an interview for a youth ministry opening so wish me luck. There is still a chance I could end up in Indiana (south of Fort Wayne) and possibly up by Staples, MN so wish me luck.

Closed Deck simply means that you do not pre-construct your deck like in Type 1 and Type 2.  Closed Deck 2 player is also known as Sealed Deck, where each person gets one starter deck and three booster packs of their choice.  They then proceed to make a deck out of the cards they want in their deck, and play just like in Type 1-2player.

Yes.  Just be prepared to have to work a little harder for your wins.  :)

To the Franklin folk, sorry I was unable to attend.  My wife learned of my plans and forbade me, which is probably best because I had to work last night.  I'm exploring whether we can survive financially without that second job, though, so I can maybe quit and not have to worry about these scheduling conflicts.

uth, I am still very interested in working together to build up Ohio tournaments and bring nats back here.  Feel free to email, PM or IM me, or I can even PM you my cell # if you want.

Renting costs money.  We can rent any kind of hall you want, if you tell everybody on this board and all of your local friends not to shop anywhere else other than my store.    And probably not even then.  That's why we're exploring churches, etc.

I also don't relish the thought of having to charge my kids for the tournaments, especially the local ones.  So renting is off the table, as far as Tom and I are concerned.  Maybe uthminister can swing it, I don't know.

Thanks for the compliment...but I do think we have the facilities to host a "bigger" tournament.  We have a full size gym, lots of restroom facilities, plenty of resturants close (even hotels for the real big tournaments), a kitchen we could serve food and drink from easily, and plenty of extra space for people to hang out, trade, and just relax.  I really think we could pull off a stellar event here in Middletown.  I admit it is not centralized like Columbus but at least it's not Cincinnati...LOL!  What do you think Schaef?  Also I have an idea about something I we (our playgroup) is calling the "Masters of Redemption Tournament".  It would be a one time only tournament that incorporated anyone nationwide who wanted to play and would include every category of play.  The prize would be 1 of every card variation ever printed.  It would likely be an expensive entry fee since we would likely use it as a fundraiser for a foreign mission trip.  We were thinking $100 per person with a cap of 64 players.  Every player would participate in all six categories of play for a set number of rounds and the player with the top score after all six categories would be crowned the Masters of Redemption champion!  We have the cards for the prize and we have the facilities for the tournament, but I want everyone's feedback on this tournament.  It would be non-sanctioned since the format is different and since every promo Cactus could possibly offer would be part of the prize.  The only thing I think might be interesting is if we could somehow get Cactus to come up with a promo for this one time event only.  What do you think?

I like the idea.  I think that you should at least offer a set of promos for that event though.  Cause at $100 a pop, you need to at least get something.  Probably at least $50 worth of cards in promos.  This just coming from a noobie though, so take it as you will.  Just my 4cents.

with 100 dollars entry fee and that BIG of a prize up for grabs? 99% if not ALL people there will be set in a MUST WIN! seriously competitive mindset Imo.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: uthminister [BR] on December 28, 2006, 11:48:53 AM
True, but if there were a promo or promos that could only be attained at this tournament, would that make it less of a must win?  I understand what you are saying though, but like the Faithful Servant card and the money invested to receive it, this tournament would be benefiting a foreign mission effort, not paying for the big prize because I personally own the cards and will be donating them to the tournament.  Would that make any difference...

I really like the idea, and I agree with RR that this would be a very competitive tourny.  I'm a laid back player myself, so the other guys won't effect me that much.  I do think though that 100 bucks is too much for the tourny, in my opinion.  I don't know the value of all the cards, but in comparison, to win a regional tourny (Cincy for example), you get a $7000 trip to Hawaii, and the entry fee is only 10bucks.

i think u should need to pre order a ticket for this.and a promo is sent with the ticket.then u get a promo or more for showing up(with a ticket),and if u went with the ticket idea i think it should be like $50.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: Daniel TS RED on December 29, 2006, 09:46:34 AM
I'm just thinking from a businessman standpoint.  How much does it cost to go to the nationals tourny?  If your other tourny is more than the nationals, I would think it costs too much.  I do like the idea of a tourny of champions though, but with $100 a pop and being located in Ohio, i think most top players won't be there.  If it was cheaper with the same prize, then I think you'd get a better pool of the top players.

Daniel

Post by: Daniel TS RED on December 29, 2006, 11:49:36 AM
$50 seems to me like a pretty fair price.  And that's come'n from some1 in WV.  So my trip wouldn't be that long anyway.  But I really do like the idea, and with $50 as the price, i think it would be a fair deal.

May 26 would be good, but I'm not sure if a Memorial Day Saturday would drive attendance up or down.  Perhaps the following Saturday, June 2?

If you're able to schedule it after many schools let out for the summer, that also factors in to the crowd you're likely to draw.

Well, May 26th will be a good candidate for the State...however the Regional could be scheduled for after school lets out (assuming we get the bid for the regional).  I think I will submit the May 26th date for State after I check with the church's event coordinator to make sure there are no conflicts.

How do people celebrate Memorial Day?  I have never really ever done anything out of the ordinary on that "holiday".  Do any of you guys have plans for that weekend?  I think a four day weekend would be perfect for this tournament, but it could just be me.  After all Schaef, you have proven to be right more times than not so far (1 right / 0 wrong)!
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments

Better mark this day on your calendar, then  ;)

Honestly, I'm not certain.  It just strikes me as a time when a lot of people do stuff with their families and such.

Don't get me wrong, if you do it, I'll be there with bells on.

Unless my family has something going on.  :)

It's probably a question better asked of members who have hosted states, and what kind of scheduling issues they have had around that time of year.

Travis is aiming to have it out in the Middletown area or possibly Cincinnati, currently aiming at Memorial Day, though I'm trying to nudge him towards a date during summer break.  I don't have the resources or the location to put up a competing bid at the moment, so I figure it's better to try and help him get a good setup and then put the weight of the Columbus playgroup behind that.

The link to myspace is the Redemption Players and Collectors myspace page I set up.  As far as the MORT, it will have to be put off till next year due to no space on the currently running printsheet for our promo for the tournament.  The exciting thing about that statement is that something is being printed currently/has just been printed...so let's play the waiting game!

Central Ohio is growing and still intends to hold many tournaments this season.  We are also coordinating to see if a bid for the 2008 Nationals can be accomplished this year.

NO not really.  Soul Seeker ( Jonathan Greeson) and Josh Moremond are both from Cincinnati, Ben Huntsman hosts tournaments and he lived in Independance KY, which is just across the River.  And Travis ( uthminister) and I both host here by Middletown ( he in Franklin and I in Trenton) Both of us are about 40 minutes away from you.  You got a lot of company down here!

Mentioning of hosting, Matt I need you to print multiple applications for me.  I went to go and sign up and realized that I have no way of printing applications to host.  I would really appreciate it if you could get me a few (or four)....four tourneys is my goal.
Thanks.

One that is unmentionable on these boards and one that I used to play in High School...blast from the past. Myself and Stevo are picking up the game again because we are realizing that the only way to introduce Redemption to the players at our local card stores is to go in with an interest in what they are already playing. You know, like the way that Paul had an understanding of the Roman culture and was able to introduce them to the Unknown God...

Fantastic!  I putting those dates in my google calendar now!  I will try to bring someone up for the 21st.  I will probably have a local on 3/28 maybe even 4/4 but it that depends upon how the Easter plans go because Easter is the next weekend.

Hey, its great to hear of some activity in OH!  I would love to make it to a couple of these tournaments.  If you guys are really doing these, how come none of them are listed?  I need advance notice in order to plan and make it there.

Also, Jacob and I have been talking about hosting a couple tournaments this spring.  It would be nice to coordinate with you guys so we don't host on the same day; we would like you guys to come to ours as much as we want to travel to yours.  We could also use someone to provide product if we host a district.

It is good to hear you are back Matt!

lol, thanks, its even better to BE back.  Man I have a serious Redemption itch that I need to scratch!

update on my plans.  I cant do a tournament either 3/28 or 4/4 so I will shoot for the weekend after Schaef's district for either a local or a district.  probably a local first.

If I have any luck I will put in for another one early in may.

BTW Has anyone put in for state or regional yet?

Also, is anyone making serious plans to go to nats this year?

We're not that far away so if you want to come up for some friendly games sometime then I'm open for that.

We would really like to go to some of yours and Schaef's tournaments so the sooner you get your dates set then we can plan for it!

Also, we would like to host ourselves but we've had some trouble being able to plan 6+ weeks in advance.  Is there any way that we can send in the application 3-4 weeks in advance and get approved?  It would also be REALLY great if Cactus had a way to apply for tournament hosting online.  We would probably be hosting more often then.

I am hosting a local (closed) on March 14th.  It may not show up on the boards since the timing is so close to the event but I have cleared it with Rob.  We will be beginning at 8:30 Here at Trenton Church of the Nazarene, 220 N. Miami St. Trenton, OH 45067

Here is a map:

http://www.trentonnazarene.org/contact-us (http://www.trentonnazarene.org/contact-us)

We will be playing type 1- 2 player and type 1 Multiplayer.  We will be doing multiplayer in the morning and two player after lunch.  The cost is $2 one time fee.  I will be providing drinks and pizza (dominoes) so if you want anything else you will need to arrange to bring your own lunch.  I will be taking up a donation collection to cover the pizza so I don't lose my shirt.  Here is a general schedule of events

8:00  - Deck Check-in

8:30 - 12:30 Type-1 Multiplayer (3-4 rounds)

8:30-9:30 - Round 1
9:30-10:30 - Round 2
10:30-11:30 - Round 3
11:30-12:30 - Round 4 (if needed)

12:30-1:00 Lunch

1:00-4:45 Type-1 2 player (4-5 rounds)

1:00-1:45 Round 1
1:45-2:30 Round 2
2:30-3:15 Round 3
3:14-4:00 Round 4
4:00-4:45 Round 5 (if needed)

Schedule will be adjusted as needed depending upon attendance

It is a closed local, But I am sending out the invitation to anyone who wants to play. I told Rob that I would do the inviting since he may not have time to put it on the board.  It will be an official local and you can consider you and your playgroups and anyone you can invite to come.  I would like to have as many people come as possible so feel free to bring your friends and invite anyone you want.

If you can make it, please let me know so I can ballpark about how many to expect.

How about a July Regional?  Your honeymoon is not going to be more than a month, is it? (although congrats if you're lucky enough for that!)  I think we'd have a decent shot at getting it and it'd be great for all those that can't make it out to Cali.  I know some people are interested but it would help if we coordinate and get support for it.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: crustpope on March 14, 2009, 11:06:45 PM
Thanks to all who came to my Local!  I really appreciate it

Type 1 - 2 Player

1st place - Rod Stewart
2nd place -  Matt Archibald

Type 1 - Multiplayer

1st place - Matt Archibald
2nd place - (tie) Rob Mulye and Travis Brown

I have several favorite memories from this tournament.

- Travis and his never ending decks (we let everyone check in as many decks as they wanted and Travis checked in 5...and counting)
- using Travis's Garden Tomb against him ;D (I still haven't been beaten by a Garden Tomb Deck ... But I can say it is fun beating someone with one!)
- Rob and Travis both looking like I shot their dog when I said "you have 10 minutes left" (each of them had a look that was somewhere between shock and terror because they each had brutalized each other with their decks and had one LS rescued apiece...Then ended in a 3-3 time out tie
- Me using Caleb's huge egyptian to discard more cards from his deck than he did from mine by banding him in with Lying spirit.  It took him 5 turns of that until he finally just killed his own EC to keep me from dragging it in against him
- Rod's genesis/emperor deck that constantly made me discard a card from hand on both offense and defense for what seemed like four straight turns.  There were at least three or four times that I had no cards in hand.  and when I got Zeb, he threw up CoM to ice the cake...it was the only game I lost and it was because my SoG was playing hide and seek from me.)
- Surviving (barely) Travis's A-bom deck.  A-bom was loose in my territory and I had to use HT to get one of my green prophets to play seach for my SoG to save me from the Abomination.  It was getting close there at the end.
- Wasabi covered peas...don't knock it until you try it.  I'm sorry Travis for mocking you...got any left?
- "Caleb you are cut off of the Mt. Dew!"

Good times all.  See you soon at District!
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: uthminister [BR] on March 14, 2009, 11:26:53 PM
My favorite memory in addition to all the one's already mentioned had to be using Rob M's own Greek in a side battle to put Abom in his territory...that was brutal. I was really glad to meet Rob M and see some faces I have not seen enough lately. Caleb continues to do the impossible and turn Mountain Dew into rescued souls...how does he do it? Rod Stewart and Matt Archibald are continuing to make things competitive here is Southwest Ohio. Oh, and watch a new up and coming player in our playgroup...you may call him "awesome"!
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: robm on March 15, 2009, 09:45:13 PM
I had a great time meeting and play you all at the tournament.  Having my own Greek character used against me for the A-bomb was a great moment at the tournament. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon at the next tourney. It was nice just to be able to place 2nd in such a competitive group. If only I had a guardian to protect my lost souls...

It was also nice to be able to play some decks that I hadn't tried out yet, even if there were less than successful.

God Bless and see y'all (living in KY has got me using words i've never used before) soon.

Hey Everybody,

April is looking like a fine month for redemption in Ohio.

Matt is hosting a district on the 18, and I will be hosting a local on the 25. Right now the tournament page on the web site reflects an error on my part, I gave cactus the wrong date, But I have spoken with them and we got the tournament rescheduled for the 25 Like originaly planned, sorry matt.

My tournament on April 25 will have 3 categories T1 2 player, T2 2player and T1 multiplayer. All categories are free and we will take up a colection for lunch or just go to subway.

I am planning on running T1 2p first and then depending on the turnout  T2 2p and T1 multi at the same time.
Deck check in is at 8:30 a.m. and we start playing at 9:00 a.m.

When confirm what room we will be playing in, I will post some directions on how to get around on the campus. Untill then I hope you plan on attending.

Matt is hosting a district on the 18, and I will be hosting a local on the 25.

And on top of that, May will be looking good as well.  I believe Jonathan and Jacob will be having at least one more district in May and I will be submitting a State Application for late May, Likely May 22nd-23rd.  I know it is Memorial Day Weekend but you still have Sunday and Monday to play with Family.  Give me Friday Night and Saturday and I promise you wont regret it!

I plan on Sending in for my district tomorrow. It will be in Nicholasville/Wilmore on May 1st and 2nd. Hope ya'll can plan on coming down for it.

Now THAT I could make :P , at least I think I could come Memorial day weekend :P

I can and will confirm the rumor that I am planning to host a district in may. The olny question is when? It seems that the olny days open to do it is the 9th or the 30th. Jonathan will be out of town on the 16. I dont know about you guys but 4 tournaments in 4 weeks might be too much for some lightweights(just kidding).

April 18, 25, May 1-2, 9 what a four weekends that would be. With that in mind the 30th might just be a better date. I hope for a little input from you guys on this matter.

At this moment I am planning to make your tournament Rob. Do you have any information on when you guys in Kentucky will have your states?

Either is fine with me.  I would probably be able to make them alll.

By the way..there is a rumor that someone in Ohio is putting in for the regionals...  Could be a good year for Ohio/Kentucky redemption  ;D

I won't be able to come if you have a district on the 30th of May, because I will be in NY, so I vote for the 9th! Four weekends of Redemption!

Mark and I are communicating about having KY States sometime in June. Most likely either the 19-20th or 26-27th. Any input is welcomed.

Thanks for the input the 9th it is for now. I have to apply in the next few weeks to ge the 9th so I will leave the question open for a while longer.  "Someone in Ohio" that sounds ominous. I would like to know anything you got on that rumor front, especialy if it came from a source other that Jonathan!

The rumor for midwest regionals is that they will be held on the 26-27th of June  so if you hold KY state then, I will probably not attend.  If we do a regionals, that is the only weekend we can do it in June.  I will let you know more when it becomes official.

Alright, I have submitted for Regional on June 26th-27th here at Crosspointe. In other related news I have also submitted for a local on June 13th to be held here at Crosspointe and we will have the Panic Demon promo if all pans out as I am expecting it to. Man it feels good to be back in the running for hosting tournaments again...

I completely concur.  We do not want to compete with our brothers from the North, and if they get the regional June 26th-27th, then we would probably also head up that way.

As for KY states, I think that June 19th-20th is the best time to go for at this point (depending on site location availability which I'm still working on).

Assuming that you are talking about the East Central Regional (which KY is eligible for), then no it does not mean that we won't host one.  That decision hasn't been made yet, but if we host the Regional, then it would be in July and would therefore not conflict with this.

I have bad news folks.  I will likely be unable to host the Ohio State.  My original dates have already been taken and I cannot use my home church to host it.  I tell you all this so that if someone else is willing to host the tournament, that they can go ahead and pick up the ball that I dropped.

Sorry guys, I am still trying to find a way to get this done, but I thought I would be fair to you all and let you know that I am currently not able to host it at my church and do not have the application in yet.  so if anyone else wants to do it, please go ahead.

Jacob mentioned he won't be able to run the tournament in May which is dissappointing but I hope he'll think about doing one later.  I look forward to seeing you all the next couple weekends!

I think that Matt originally mentioned May 22-23rd as the date for Ohio State.  I'm sure it is flexible; I think May 30th would work as well.  If Matt still wanted to host it but just needed a location then maybe something could be worked out.  Of course Travis will also do a good job at hosting.  Either way I really hope we get it and don't hesitate to ask for help.

Happy Easter!!

Sorry to take so long to get this information to you guys.

My tournament will be held in room d-115 and because i am sure that means almos nothing to you guys i will give you a few directions.

If you are using any sort of map program it will show two entrances to the school. this however is not the case, the road through campus is one way so use the entrance on spirng vally rd. do not worry too much if yuo use the exit as an entrance as many a confused parent stilll does on ocasion.

Please park in the main lot. You can recongnise the main lot as the largest of the three on the campus. for those of you entering from the spring vally rd. entrance it will be the first lot on your left.

the school entrance you want to use is the 3 story building on the right. Redemption posters will then point you allong the way to room d115.

Hope to see you there.

deck checkin is at 8:30 am

type 1 2p starts at 9:00 am
all categorys are free but lunch is not.
thanks

As has been our tradition for the past few months, we continue to host Redemption Tuesday's at Schumer's in Centerville, OH starting at 6P.M. We are in the middle of an ongoing Type-1 Tournament that will culminate at a Booster Draft including the TexP cards when they arrive. The grand prize for this lengthy tournament is a complete set of FooF and RoA cards. Come join us for all the fun at Schumer's!

Other than that, Matt, I have nothing but am willing to put something together. Perhaps we should have a tournament in December so I can use the Mary Promo in my Genealogy of Jesus deck...

I was going to try to host one in early to mid September ( local) and try for one every month after that.  I know Jacob wants to do a Booster draft tournament sometime in sept/Oct but I dont know when.  ANyone else thinking of hosting an official tournament?

btw, we need to see if Shumers is willing to put up the cost of a tournament and host a few on Tuesday nights! I would LOVE to be able to do an offical tournament up there every tuesday or every other tuesday if we could.  That would be awesome!

Post by: uthminister [BR] on August 03, 2009, 09:30:49 PM
Well, if you read my post we will be doing a Booster Draft but it will be unofficial and FREE...

As for hosting a tournament every Tuesday or every other; that would be sweet. I will have to talk to Schumer about it and see what he thinks.

I wouldnt mind hosting those tournaments or spliting the hosting with you, I just cant afford to pay for alll of them.  perhaps if we talked to him and paid for the first two out of pocket to show him how what kind of response he could expect he might be willing to front the cash for the others.  i would even be willing to let him keep any profit that it generated after I recouped the entry fees I would have to pay for the ones we pay for at first.

Traditionally, we've done 2 tournaments during the fall semester of the Local or District flavor.  But last year my own playgroup dwindled and the OH guys weren't traveling in the fall.  So I ended up eating my shirt.  At this point things are really up in the air as far as tourney here go.  I'll just have to see if the playgroup revives when the new crop of students arrive.

The Tuesday Nights a Schumer's is really a good time. I went for the first time this week and saw a few faces of folks I played the WOW TCG with and a bunch of brend new folks too. I used to play WAY back in the day. I went to nats at Origins and it was a blast. (I know Rob Anderson has to remember getting beat by a 7-year old Adam Day!!!) <---- that was my buddies kid!!!!

It brought back fond memories of good times and I think its nothing but a good thing.

Just wanted to throw that out there. (I will have more than a starter deck next week guys...... lol)

As I told crustpope privately, I do no approval of any accounts on the board.  Rob handles that traffic.

I haven't had time to sit down and get things squared away for scheduling and all the other stuff that goes with hosting, since we've only just moved this past weekend (the entire Storehouse is still in the back seat of my car!  :o ).  That said, it is my intention to fire up tournaments monthly again starting in September.

It is also my strong desire to bring the Big Local Beat Michigan Extravafesticon back for another year.  So mark your calendars early and let's have a good turnout this year!

OK Guys, I put in for two locals September 12th  and September 26th

the 12th will be type 1 2 player/Multiplayer and type 2 2player and multiplayer

The 26th will be Type 1 2 player Type 2 2 player and Sealed deck and Booster.

Plan accordingly

I will be playing these in two at a time fashion paired as they are above.  If fewer people come we may play more categories by doing them one at a time.

The tourney at Schumer's was great...we had a good turnout and the top two guys were guys who were not playing Redemption a couple months ago. Also, the store did something I had never seen before. The extra money collected (anything above their hosting fees) was put back into prizes. So at the local we received 5 packs for first, 4 packs for second, 3 packs for third, 2 packs for fourth, and everyone else received one pack all the way down to last place. Very cool idea I thought!!!

That is awesome.  I wanted to come but Kami and I had to watch our Nephews at the last minute and I couldnt leave her alone with them :/  at least I couldnt Justify it to her..I tried..

So who won?  Did Rob win it all?

Rob did not play cause without him it was an even number of players. Matt won and Tom came in second and I would have taken third if that was an official place in locals. We had a blast...

This is a rebuilding year here at Redemption Oakdale.  We probably won't be having any big tourneys here for a while, but when we do, we'd love to have you come join us :)

Hey, I want to thank everyone who came to the Local in Dayton today.  I had a great time.

Type 1 2 Player
1st - Matt Archibald
2nd - Jonathan Pequinot

Type 2 - Multiplayer
1st Rod Stewart
2nd Matt Archibald

In 2 player it came down to a time out win.  Had the game lasted 5 more minutes, I probably would have lost.  But as it was I eeked out a 3-1 Time out win.

In multiplayer, the beat was pretty brutal.  We ended three rounds tied at 6 points But Rod had  +14 LS differential and I had  +13.  I made myself a target jumping out to a 3 -0-0 lead in the first round, and I got quite a bit of Dominant flow after that.  But the WORST move I made was on a feat of trumpets, I declared 4 when I knew Rod had no way to block and then I gave him 4 cards.  Before the Feast of Trumpets, he had a SoG, a Grapes but no EC to block.  After I gave him 4 more cards, he not only had an EC to block, but he also got a Martyr so there was really no way for me to rescue against him.

ugh.  I think I hate feast of Trumpets.  it has done me just as much harm as it has done me good sometimes.

Matt, I will make sure to promote your touranment with the guys at Schumer's. In addition to that, I wanted to let all of you Ohio players know that for the next eight weeks we will be doing theme nights at Tuesday Night Redemption at Schumer's Baseball Cards & Comics. The schedule is as follows along with whose idea it was:

1/5/2010    //  Type-2 play (Rod)
1/12/2010  //  No Special Ability Lost Souls Allowed (Rick)
1/19/2010  //  No Dominants Allowed (Matt)
1/26/2010  //  No Humans Allowed (Steve)
2/2/2010    //  Minimum of Four Offensive and Four Defensive Colors w/ Equal Number of Cards Per Brigade (Rob)
2/9/2010    //  Completely New Testament Decks (Caleb)
2/16/2010  //  Only Cards That At Face Value Are Characters, Enhancements, and Lost Souls (Travis)
2/23/2010  //  Minimum of One Separate Card From Every Brigade Offense and Defense (Jonathan)

If players show up with decks that do not conform to the deck building rules for that night they will still be able to play, but they will not be eligible for any of the prize packs (i.e.\ TEP packs).

2/23/2010  //  Minimum of One Separate Card From Every Brigade Offense and Defense (Jonathan)

PK you will have to explain some of the rules for these theme nights.  For instance:

on 2/16 - If I am reading this one correctly then there can be no Arts/Doms/sites/Covenants/curses/Fortresses correct?  TC Enhancements still work but its all just good guys/bad guys and their corresponding enehancements.  Correct?

on 2/23/ -  I am guessing that multicolored brigades dont count correct?
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: galadgawyn on December 31, 2009, 04:50:43 PM
Hey Matt

2-16  That sounds correct.

2-23  This was my idea so I'll elaborate.  I originally thought that multi-colored cards would count but only for one brigade per card so -  you could not use Self to count as all 7 evil brigades but you could use it to account for one of your choice.  However on further reflection I'm questioning this.  That might make it too easy to get all the brigades in the deck; If I use Self, Lurking, Lying unto God, Torment and a duel colored demon then I only have to use 2 actual brigades in my defense which is not what I wanted.  The idea was to have everyone use spread out decks.

So I think your assumption should be correct; only single color cards count to meet the requirement.  Thanks for the question.

By the way, I'll probably be able to make it for the Sat. portion of your tourney and I hope to play with Rod in the Teams cat.

I am glad that you elaborate on your theme JP because I was a little fuzzy on what would be allowed too. I am really excited about tonight's theme since most everyone who has recently begun playing has never tried type-2 play. It should be lots of fun. The weird thing is that my type-2 deck is smaller than the type-1 decks I have been playing recently...

Night #1 (Type-2)

We had six people turn out to play Type-2. Most of the guys who have just started playing except for Rob, did not take a swing at this style of play since the number of cards they have available is still too limited. Actually two of the newer players did stick around and played a game of LotRs. As for the six who played Redemption, I (Travis) took first, Rod took second, and Caleb took thrid. Caleb beat up on Steven's new Panic Demon deck 7-3 and I took unfair advantage of a deck that I had helped to construct just a few minutes prior, beating Rob 7-1. Rod and Jonathan (a beastly opening pairing) ended at a 6-6 tie when time expired. Round two was interesting pitting me versus Caleb in which I ran away with the game 7-0. In all fairness, Caleb would have put up a much greater fight, but he chose not to go in early which allowed my deck to get set up quite heavily. Rod played Rob which ended more defniately for Rod this time reaching 7 before his opponent. Steven and Jonathan were knee deep in one of Jonathan's combos intended to discard Steven's deck when Jonathan had to leave, forfeiting the game unfortunatly. I am pretty sure Jonathan would have run away with the game had it gone the full time. Overall a good night ending with some liking Type-2 even more and some vowing never to play it again. Everyone who had a Type-2 deck ready to play received at least one TeP pack with third getting two, second getting three, etc. We will see yall next week with no special ability lost souls in your decks.

The weird thing is that my type-2 deck is smaller than the type-1 decks I have been playing recently...

That is when you know you are doing type 1 right!

Mor cards = more combos .  That is my motto

Hey, not that I need the cards for winning but I thought that Steven had conceded our game (there was no doubt about the outcome) before I left giving me the win.  That would have put me ahead of Caleb and maybe Rod depending on his score.

By the way, the reason I left early is I got a call from my wife that she was not feeling well and on the way to Urgent Care.  It turns out that she had gallstones and had to have her gallbladder removed (at the hospital - not urgent care).  Thankfully, the surgery went well and she is home healing.  I don't know that she'll be well enough by Tuesday for me to come.

Matt, I also have some potential conflict for next Sat.  I still hope to come but I'm praying about it and waiting on God for direction there.

Nothing yet but I might try and schedule something for February.  And if I can't get my act together to do it on schedule, I'll announce an ad hoc tourney in advance.

Here's one, by the way: Extravafesticon IV - Sat. 11/27

Night 2 // No Special Ability Lost Souls

It was actually nice to play a game where a lost soul didn't set you aside or make you discard cards. Probably the nicest thing was not having a half rescued lost soul come and go; forcing you to rescue ten souls to end up with five. We had a new guy tonight, Anthony, who along with myself played with E/F starter decks for the night. We didn't win, but Anthony did come close when he played Tom ending the game with a respectable 4 lost souls. Not bad for a guy who has never played and is using a crummy starter deck. Other than that we had the usual suspects at the top of the leader boards including Rob, Rod, and Tom (I think that is right, now I am second guessing myself. If anyone was there and knows this is wrong please correct me.) Anyway, all went away with nice new TeP packs for FREE and the winners were rewarded accordingly as well with TeP packs. I am really liking this theme stuff, however we have been missing a certain Rick... ;D

Next week's theme is No Dominants...

Schaef posted earlier that he did not know when he would host again.  The only one he has down for sure was next fall during the Ohio State/Michigan game.

He may host a tournament in Columbus this year (I hope so!) but he hasn't committed either way yet.

I am at school until about 4:00.  You can call me on my cell anytime after that.  I will ask Kami but I dont think it would be a problem.  We just have to find beds for everyone.  Is Lindsay sleeping in a crib yet?  Micah is still in the cradle.  we also have a pack-n-play.  would the three boys sleep together in the same room or would we need to separate them?

Awesome!  I'm not positive that it's going to work out, but I'd say there's a 60% chance I'll be there, and a 40% chance I'll be bringing at least a couple guys with me.  I'll update the percentages as I find stuff out :)

Also, Folks, I am pretty good on all other categories, but I need to have an idea about Booster draft.  How many people plan on playing booster draft?  It will cost $15 (this will be with a TEP box).  I have enough for about 20 people so far, but given the response, I am getting pretty concerned that I may need some more merch.  Please let me know as soon as you can if you plan on playing in the Ohio State Booster Draft.

I have also thougth about having a "Brian Reid" Iron Man Tournament.  What do you guys think of that?
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: uthminister [BR] on April 13, 2010, 10:56:08 AM
I really like the idea of having the Brian Reid Iron Man Tournament, but since we are already playing one category between rounds, will that be doable? (unless of course I am reading something wrong in the schedule which is possible) I plan on being there both days and my categories of choice will be Type 1 (both styles) and Teams with Rick, but the others are open for me and I really don't care if I play any of them so use me bro!
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: crustpope on April 13, 2010, 11:04:21 AM
If I did the Brian Reid Iron Man Tournament, then it would have to take second place to anyone needing to finish Sealed deck games.  So yeah, It would get a bit crowded.  Perhaps that is something i will do when I put in for Regionals.

btw.  If you have a date that you really cant do for Regionals, let me know.  I havent put in the Application yet.  I will do that after State.

Hey Matt, I was hoping to play type 2 multi.  It turns out that I can go tomorrow night but I do have to work during the day so I'm not sure I can make by 5:30 (the time you need to start to finish by 7:30?).  This wasn't going to be a problem because you had it starting at 10:00 previously.  I think I could get there by 8:00 give or take some depending on work tomorrow.  Hope this works out.  Looking forward to seeing everybody.

P.S.  where is the post where he is 99% sure that he'll come and 95% sure that he's taking 6 guys with him?  I think its like lightspeed - he keeps getting closer but not quite there

Well This pretty much seals the deal.  We have someone who was wanting to play Type II multi so we have to abide by the schedule.  I will hold off as long as I can on on starting, but we have to get people home at a reasonable time.

So far we have Mark +5 coming at 7:30
Jonathan coming at 8:00 for type II multiplayer.

I dont know what we will do but we will try to accomodate as many as possible.

Actually you have multiple people wanting to play Booster who would really appreciate you backing up the schedule by 30 mins.  And since Booster is a bigger event, it would make sense to have it when the most people could be there.  I'm not asking to switch the order of the events, I want Jonathan to get to play T2-multi as well.  But I think it would be worth finishing a bit later to get everyone in, especially a group that has traveled over 3 hours to get there.  After all if it gets too late, people can crash at the church right?

Speaking of which, as for breakfast, I'm sure that whatever you come up with will be wonderful.  Beggars can't be choosers, and besides teenage guys will eat anything :)  Of course I wouldn't complain if there were some cinnamon rolls.

Of course I wouldn't complain if there were some cinnamon rolls.

I think something along that line can be arranged.....  ;)

and you are right.  I am leaning much harder toward jsut delaing it until you get there.  Now I will have to start by 7:30 regardless.  I cant wait all night.  just get there as quickly and as safely as you can.

I can play all night, I got no problem with that.. I just hope others can be as flexible.... ;D

Dont forget we are also doing Sealed deck in a round robin formatt.  If any of your group wants to do that as well, then they can get their games in during the type II multi rounds and during the night at the church if they want.

Maybe I will just put in a competing bid and start the Southwest Ohio Schism of 2010...

I would be glad to have MW Regionals at either Matt's or Travis'.  July 2-3 would be ok for a date, but you might run into conflicts with people having 4th of July plans.

The conflict with July 4th would be my big problem as well.  Both my father and my mother in Law have birthdays on July 3rd.  I can go in June  but not that weekend.  are there any other weekends that work out well?  I really need to put in this APP asap.

Awww, you really like me.  You really, really like me :)

By the way, any chance that you could match up T1-mp with Sealed on Fri night, instead of with Booster on Sat afternoon?

I will think about it.  I didnt consider that that might pose a problem for people.  I am not sure what configuration would be better unless we switch booster and type 2 2 player aorund but putting booster up against type 1 2 player would not make me popular.

I am open to suggestions, but I get to make the final determination.

Is Sealed really going to take 5 rounds? Initially I'd probably think it'd be most ideal to switch the type 2's and then drop a sealed round, but I don't know if that's possible.

I am open to suggestions, but I get to make the final determination.
My ideal schedule:

Fri early would have T2-mp.
Fri late would have T1-mp/T2-2p.
Sat morning would have T1-2p.
Sat afternoon would have Sealed/Booster.
Sat evening would have TEAMS.

This puts the most popular events all separate, so that someone could play T2-2p, T1-2p, Booster, and TEAMS.  It also gives an alternative at each time when events double for the inexperienced (T1-mp, Sealed) and the experienced (T2-2p, Booster).  It gives an alternative at each time when events double for 2-player (T2, Sealed) and multi-player (T1, Booster).

I like your original schedule for midwest regionals matt. My suggestion would be to pair t2- 2player with sealed on friday night. Then everyone would get to play t1 2 player on saturday and thus avoid 2 player events being paired together.

I am hoping to make it for the whole thing, maybe get a ride down with Jonathan G if possible or drive myself if need be.

It will be really nice to see you guys and get in on the OH/KY competition again.

Looking forward to t1 multi for sure.  ;)

Midwest Regionals will be held on July 9th and 10th.

Here is the Schedule

Friday Night   - We will be playing IRONMAN in honor of Brian Reid.  The cost will be $5 and the Funds will be donated to a charity in his name.  Type II will start Precisely at 6:00.  If it is only one round, then we will be playing seald deck early so if you plan on coming only for sealed deck, please be here no later than 8:00 just in case we play early.  This should give our neighbors to the south plenty of time to get there to play Sealed.

Ironman sign up -

6:00 - Type 2-Multiplayer
7:30 - Type 2 Multiplayer (round 2 if Necessary)

Sealed Deck - 9:00 Create decks
Round 1 - 9:30
Round 2 - 10:15
Round 3 - 11:00
Round 4 - 11:45
Round 5 - 12:30

Saturday
Iron man Sign up

8:30 Deck Check in for Type 1 -2 Player and Type 2 - 2 Player
Type 1 - 2 player (Type A to run concurrently)
9:00 - Round 1
9:50 - Round 2
10:40 - Round 3
11:30 - Round 4
12:20 - Round 5

Type 2 - 2 Player
9:00 - Round 1
10:15 - Round 2
11:30 - Round 3

12:30 - Lunch

Afternoon block - Type 1 Multiplayer and booster Draft (with Tins and TEP  I will also try for WOmens packs as well)

Multiplayer
1:30 - Round 1
2:30 - Round 2
3:30 - Round 3
4:30 - Round 4 ( if necessary)

Booster
1:30 Draft
2:00 Round 1
3:00 Round 2
4:00 Round 3
5:00 Round 4 (If Necessary)

5:00 - Iron Man over.  Turn in your souls
Dinner 5:30

Final Round  - Teams

6:00 Round 1
7:00 Round 2
8:00 Round 3
9:00 Round 4

This is the Final Schedule.  It has not changed.  After considering all the problems with this schedule I think that, given what I have to work around (Mark showing up late with a big crew, some people getting off work late on Friday) that this is the best for everyone.  It puts the least popular category first when the fewest people will be there.  It saves Booster for Saturday when EVERYONE will be there and it still gets through all the categories in a timely fashion.  True it DOES make you choose between Type 1 or Type 2 2 player categories but you will all just have to deal with that because there are too many other minefields I have to dodge.

I hope everyone is not too offended and I hope that by giving you plenty of time to choose you can focus on building the decks that you want to build for the categories that you will be playing in.  In a perfect world it might be different but alas that is not to be.

I would appreciate some pre-registrations if you know which categories you will be playing.  I will try to drum up some prize to offer for those who pre-register.

Dont forget the Brian Reid Memorial Iron Man Tournament as well.

what is an Iron Man tournament
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: crustpope on June 14, 2010, 11:27:41 AM
what is an Iron Man tournament

Iron man is where you are given 10 of the same unique personal "souls"  anyone else participating in the iron-man tournament must accept a challenge by you (and vice versa) unless A) you have already played and B) you are involved in another category of play at the moment.  During your downtime, you can play a pick up type 1 - 2 player match and the loser of that game has to surrender one of his unique "souls."  If you lose all 10 of your souls you are out of the tournament and the winner of the tournament is the one who A) still has at least one personal LS and B) has the most souls collected from other people.  The tie breaker is the person who has the most of thier own unique personal souls.

It is a category that is often played at Nationals but, to my knowledge, has not been played at a tournament lower than that.

This is the Final Schedule.
I accept your schedule and understand you trying to accommodate many "minefields".  Being a tournament host is a tough thing to do.  However, neither T2-mp or Sealed are compelling events for my guys, so I think we'll probably just show up really late Fri night to do some trading and catch some sleep (or maybe some Ironman).  Then on Sat, most of them will be playing T1-2p, T1-mp, and TEAMS (with a few doing Booster instead of T1-mp).

If I have guys who beg me to do Sealed deck, then I'll let you know, but for now just figure us into the Sat schedule.

wow really?  I assumed you wanted to do sealed deck.  You always have in the past.  man, now I may have to re-think things because I was basing this on the idea that you would want to play sealed.

What if I switched sealed with type 2-2 player.  So Friday would be all type II.  Would that really bother a lot of people?

Sealed would be placed in opposite of type 1 2 player.

what do you think?

I don't think it matters for me because I was going to play type 2 and sealed either way.  I wouldn't normally do sealed but since I'm currently at the top for points, might as well.

I will play type 2 multi, type 1 multi, and not sure about teams  ::).

Sorry for the confusion.  Some guys have played Sealed in the past, but usually just because it was up against a T2 category and they don't have T2 decks so that wasn't even an option for them.  That was why I was hoping for T1-mp on Fri night (which they all play).  They also all play T1-2p and TEAMS, but I figured that you were locked into Sat for those events.

As for having all T2 on Fri night, that would be fine.  Again we would probably just show up for Sat, but that doesn't really change anything for us, so it's fine if it works better for others.  About the only thing that would change anything for us would be if T1-2p, T1-mp, TEAMS, or Booster was on Fri night, in which case we'd head up earlier to get in on that event.

OK since it is not going to matter with Prof Underwood and his kids I will make Friday a type II night and switch sealed and Type II-2 player.

If you come at 6:00 you should be able to play in Both Type II categories (it will be a long night - midnight or so before we end but you could get them both in)

Sealed will square off agianst Type 1-2 player and get a drubbing but that just might make me play sealed since soo many people will probably join type 1-2 player.

I will post an updated schedule later.

That works for me, it gives me a chance to play all the categories that I did not play at northeast regionals.

Will we be able to stay at the church? One or both nights?  If there is a way to stay somewhere the second night I would stay for teams but would need a teammate.

To follow-up from Tuesday, it looks like I will be able to make to the tournament this weekend.  At this point, I am planning to participate in the open categories (T2-2P, T2-Multi, T1-2P, T1-Multi).  If it is still OK, I would like to crash at the church on Friday night.

Lord willing, I shall see y'alls tomorrow at 6PM.  Is it $5 per open category this time?

Thanks!

what do you mean by a pre sleved starter?  It this a pre sleved starter g or h that you have or is this if we bring one of our own? cuz i do have a presleeved starter.

I have 4 g and 4 h decks that are already pre-sleved so I can accommodate up to 8 sealed players with pre-sleeved decks.  I do not allow others to bring in pre-sleved decks because part of sealed deck is the randomness of getting g or h.  each of my g and H decks are sleeved in identical sleeves and placed in identical boxes so you dont know which deck you will be getting.  I also include an extra no SA LS if you want to build a 63 card deck and the extra sleeves to build a 63 card deck ( I have had only one person build a 63 card deck since I have begun doing this but it is there if you need it.)

With the pre-sleeved decks you only pay $5 for the packs you purchase so suppliment the starter deck.

also my Phone # is 513-292-2220 call me if you have any more questions.

I will be at the church by 4:00 and be trying to set stuff up probably by 5:00 or so If the daycare kids will let me  ;) so stop on by if you get into town early!

Wow I never noticed that until now.  I checked my original application to make sure I didn't  put it down as a mistake and I wrote "Booster $20" so this is not my mistake.  I was considereing dropping the price to $18 since I am not offereing a womens pack like I had hoped.  I could alternatively offer an extra priest pack to compensate. This would give everyone one of every pack plus Tep and tin cards along with an extra priest pack (which would boost those who get a priest tin)

We can talk about it when everyone shows up on Sat.  I dont think I can drop the price to 15 wiht Tep, a Tin and extra packs.  but if people were REALLLY counting on $15 I think we can work something out.

Just so everyone knows.  I probably wont host many tournaments this coming year.  I probably wont host anything above a local until after the new year and I will host Either the state or the Regional (not both...that about killed me this year)

So all you Ohio players, lets try to get some more hosts so that Travis and I dont have to carry the water.  Yes I am looking at all you guys playing at Schumers every tuesday  ;)

I'd also like to see Allen and Rebecca host a tournament this year.  That would be cool and I'd come to that!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!??!!   Seriously, I understand you stepping back a bit this next year as you've carried the load this year (after Travis carrying it last year).  I also basically took this year off of hosting (only 1 tourney - KY State - all year).  I'm rejuvenated though and plan on hosting a District in the fall and spring, KY State next spring, and maybe EC Regionals next summer.  Hopefully your time off will work out similarly well.

In the meantime, I agree that having some other OH people hosting (Pequinot, Collins, Shyers, etc.) is a great idea :)

Ah Shyers!  Yess!  Pequinot seems to always be short on cash to host But I would still like to seem him host a local or two.  Shyers however has all kinds of cash and nothing to spend it on!  We should probably (strongly) encourage him to host some tournaments!

We hosted our first inpromptu tournament of the season at Schumer's last night doing booster draft with TeP, Disciples, and Angel Wars super packs along with the usual packs. A bunch of cool new cards were opened along with some old favorites. The most suprising element of the draft was the Guardian that was passed around like a no special ability lost soul until someone was stuck with it. Obviously no one was Ultra drafting and were there to win. Speaking of winners, Tom took first and Rick took second place with Matt and Rob taking a tie for third and me bringing up the rear. They got to open more Disciples packs as their winnings so everyone was happy and got to see a bunch of new cards that they had not previously seen...

Travis Brown has mentioned to our local Dayton playgroup that he is planning on hosting a tournament on the first Sat. of the month from Jan. to June.  Except Jan. will be on the second Sat. 8th? to allow people to sober up.  Since it is not posted yet, I wanted to give people a heads up.

Looking forward to Ohio tournaments again and seeing everyone.  I still hope some others can add to that list.

February 5 -- Local Tournament @ Schumer's
March 5 -- Local Tournament @ Schumer's
April 16 -- District Tournament @ Crosspointe
May 13-14 -- State Tournament @ Crosspointe
June 3-4 -- Regional Tournament @ Crosspointe

Obviously the State and Regional are up to Rob, but I would love to host them this year!

Agreed.  The job that Schaef, Uthminister, and Crustpope have done in OH over the last 5 years is absolutely amazing.  In that amount of time, OH has:

Hosted countless local & district tourneys at multiple locations throughout the state
Hosted a state tourney all 5 years
Hosted a MW Regional tourney 4 out of 5 years (I think)
Hosted a National tourney 1 year
Hosted "The Storehouse", which is the largest collection in the world of free cards for new playgroups
Trained the current reigning world champion of T1-2p

Congratulations to you guys.  I don't know any state outside of MN that can compete with that.
Title: Re: Ohio Tournaments
Post by: crustpope on December 22, 2010, 12:36:09 AM
I was thinking "when did we not host MW regionals" and then I remebered that someone in Illinois hosted it one year I think...

Having three solid tournament hosts is good but I am sure I can speak for the other two when I say we could use twice that number easily!  We all envision the day when there are at least 6 solid hosts each hosting major tournaments on a rotating schedule here in Ohio.  I know last year I nearly got burnt out and now I am having a hard time keeping up with competitive decks because I took half a year off.

You oughta come to Schumer's some time and see the new crop of players there. I think that Tom could easily be a T1-2P National contender and Rick is a deck building genius who also has National contention in his future. Matt and Rob are no chumps either, although Rob will be leaving for the Army at the beginning of the new year. Rod and Jonathan who have always been great players continue to hold their own as well. I am just so pround of our guys and the way they have stepped up their game. If you want to both get your hands on some of the new cards each week (prizes for everyone) and have a chance to play some top notch guys, Schumer's is your place to be on Tuesday nights at 6P.M.!

Tournament this weekend...February 5th at Schumer's again. It will be the same schedule as the last tournament with Type-1 2-player going first at 11:00A.M.. This time however instead of Booster Draft we will have teams so get your teams decks ready for some great competition. The more teams the better!!! Oh, and the promo for the tournament will be Spirit as a Dove and registration will be only $5 per category.

Also we will be doing a Superbowl Party / Booster Draft as well at Crosspointe this weekend. The Draft will cost either $5 a person or you can bring something to munch on or drink to share during the game. Either way, I hope you will join us this weekend for a full two days of Redemption fun! The tournament will be unofficial so there will be no promos or RNRS points, but you will get 9 packs for the entry fee (cash or food/drink).

June 10th-11th Regional Tournament @ Crosspointe Church of Christ in Franklin, OH

Hey Mark, I'm not sure what Travis' reasons are for those particular weekends so I don't know if it could be changed.  Maybe he didn't think to ask since you hadn't been able to be up as much and hadn't had as many players in the last 2 years.

Regardless, it is always nice to get back together with all our Ohio (and honorary Ohio) players; hope it can work out to see you guys at some point.

I'm hoping this is possible :)

Maybe he didn't think to ask since you hadn't been able to be up as much and hadn't had as many players in the last 2 years.
We actually don't usually get to make it up that way until the spring semester, so this year's pretty normal in that regard.  However, you are right that we've been down in numbers the last couple years.  However, this year we actually have a surprisingly strong playgroup.  Drew and Andy Wills have continued to just get better, and some of our newer players like David and Ian are progressing quickly.  On top of that Michael Saucedo is back, who some of you might remember as being a wunderkind back when he played a few years ago.  We also have several other less experienced players who aren't as good yet, but are enthusiastic about the game and are having a lot of fun with it :)

Regardless, it is always nice to get back together with all our Ohio (and honorary Ohio) players; hope it can work out to see you guys at some point.
Thanks for the compliment.  I'm really looking forward to seeing all you guys as well :)

I have put up two changes; one that Mark wanted and one that was necessary for my own schedule. The changes may be as follows.

The District could be moved to April 23rd.

The Regional could be moved to June 17th-18th.

Commence discussion on whether or not these changes are better for the whole Ohio/Kentucky group or not. Likely these changes, if they do not conflict with any other events happening at Crosspointe, will need to stick though. I appologize for not getting everyone involved initially. It is costing me a bunch of extra work because of my own shortsightedness. Let that be a lesson to all of us and never repeat my error again...or at least try not to.  ;D

Worse case you can shack up with me.  I got room in my house and I live about 20 minutes away.  If kirk comes in he will probably shack up with travis.  Jon greeson may come in and he ususally stays at my house but i would still have room for you even if his whole family comes in.

I dont know about specifics on events and such so I cant say that but I could pick you up from either dayton or cvg (cincinnati) but I cant pick you up until the afternoon so if you fly in during hte morning you may be waiting for a while

I have three rooms for people  if and laurie take up one and John takes up another I gt room for one more in the basement...of course that is where the projector/big screen with cable and dvd is located sooooo maybe someone would prefer that one instead of the traditonal guest room...

However, to make your life easier:  it is set for May 6/7.  Friday deck check in is like 7 PM and tournament starts at 8 PM.  You could leave around noon on Friday and still start the first round on time.  I was trying to make it easy on everyone traveling.

Yeah, the mountains are really quite lovely once you get used to them.  Not as beautiful as the rolling hills and horse farms of central KY, but better for rock climbing if you're into that stuff :)

We'll miss you, but I hope you find a lot of eggs :)

Ironically there have been many tournaments announced in this thread since it has been alive for a long while. For the latest tournaments, though, you might just want to go to the tournament page here... http://www.redemption.com/redemption_tournament_2011.php (http://www.redemption.com/redemption_tournament_2011.php)

Yeah, a little research into this thread and you can find at least four recent tournaments announced.  one is up by you and three are down here in the Cincinnati area.

Just saying maybe you should look before you start griping at people.

Hey Souron, your signature is "Oh Yeah!" By chance did you think that the battering ram looks like an armored Cool-aide man. That is great if so...

Wanted to resurrect this thread for old times sake...

And I wanted to give you all an update on a tournament I held at NWOCYC this past Friday after teaching almost 20 kids how to play Redemption.

***DETAILS***
We had summer camp at the Northwestern Ohio Christian Youth Camp (NWOCYC) this past week. I went with the intent to teach about 10 kids how to play Redemption and took enough product (starter decks, deck boxes, sleeves, card storage boxes, and packs) to give everyone a deck and some stuff to keep their cards distinct from each other. The deal was that when they played games (not when they won but just when they played) they would receive unopened packs.

1st game >> 2 Unlimited and 2 Prophets packs
2nd game >> 1 Patriarchs and 1 Apostles pack
3rd game >> 1 Angel Wars and 1 Priests pack
4th game >> 1 Kings and one Disciples pack
5th game >> 1 TeP pack

All ten decks were claimed by the second day and I had to get a hold of Chris Bany to ship me out another box of starters that were all gone by the end of the week. I was able to teach around 20 kids and a couple of parents how to play the game during the course of the week with the help of Jake and Dakota (two teen guys in my youth group who have been playing for a little while now). As a big finale of the week we had an impromptu tournament on Friday afternoon an had 16 kids sign up to play (all new players as of that week). They had a really good time and were able to walk away with a new game that they really enjoy at no cost to them. I will be sending off starter decks to the guys this week so that they can teach a couple of their friends back home how to play along with some more incentives for teaching others how to play. I love getting to share the game of Redemption with people and expanding the Kingdom of God.
