This looks like a pretty good schedule so far.  Sunday night I had a learning night to see if any youth would be interested and I had 5 players who know how to play come and 5 brand new players come.  I also think there are 4 or 5 other players interested so my group has gone from 1 or 2 players to possibly 15 to 20.

Scott,

Did you have any ideas on dates for the NV State? and are you gonna plan on coming down again?  I'll get my proposed dates worked out and sent to you to be posted.

Godspeed,
Mike

Is June 5/6 a date that will work for the majority of people in the area? I'm pretty sure I'm free, just need to make sure we have people coming.

Districts have been a draw to get our spread out players to travel long distances for the tournaments.

Mike, I seem to remember your boys having spring break sometime in April.  Would that be a good time for NV State?  Of course, the determining factor will be when the NV groups says the church is available.   :)

And we don't always post our local tourneys because our local players know about the tourney and guys aren't going to drive 4 hours for a local.

Mar 28         Aumsville        District Proposed
May 15-16    Aumsville        OR State Proposed

I've already reserved the church for these days.  I'll be sending in the District application really soon and if no other oregon players want the OR state tourney I'll send in that application probably in January. I believe that is when they usually start getting looked at by Rob.  Mike and Scott would either of you two be trying to attend either of these two events?  If so let me know.  For OR State I'm sure I could convince my wife to take a weekend away and have the house open for people to sleep at.

Also I'm excited because I bought like 16 decks a few weeks ago and only have 3 left for my youth group.  I've got over 15 players easily and more interested in playing.  In a day or two I'm going to post on the trade pages my needs for the play group so if any of you have anything I need I like to work out trades with NW players first.  Thanks everyone.

Thanks for being willing to change that Scott.  Does anyone know when the state and regional applications are being looked at?  Also I'm going to try and plan some addictional districts up here but I'm not sure when just yet.

Scott,

I was thinking of have the NV State the weekend of April 17-18. I see you have a proposed tournament that weekend. Most of the schools in this area will be out that week and I shouldn't have any trouble getting that time off of work.

For WA state, would we need to do 2 days? I know it could be a long Saturday but with NV, CA, and OR state all happening I doubt we'll have a big turnout.

Opinions?

Post by: STAMP on January 20, 2009, 03:45:59 PM
TJ, maybe Jake, and I will all be coming.  I guess it will depend on turnout and what hours you have the church for?  It's certainly okay by me.

I would be okay with a one day WA state tourney although Ben we may have a big group from here come up so having it be two days could be easier especially if we have like Type 2 events on Friday.  My group will play both T1 events and there may be a couple of them who would do Booster or closed and if my main two events are out of the way I will be able to help judge and do stuff like that for the T1 events.  I will want to do booster like normal of course.  We could do type 2 friday at your house if you have space nad your parents don't mind.

I'm not sure whats harder, trying to get tourneys all lined up and hosting them or building decks to play with at tourneys.  I see that you already have teh OR state application done and approved so I guess I can probably send in the regional one soon.  I'm excited that my group is growing as fast as it is and that having regionals here gives them a chance to get alot of cool cards.

Okay the regional application was sent in yesterday.  As well as the district I will run in march.  As for this months district in Feb. in medford Ben do you still want to go. I'm planning on going Friday and coming back saturday night.  If you want we can split the cost of a motel room or something.

But I'll keep you posted...
Title: Re: Northwest Tournaments 2009: Planning Phase

The march district and the regionals are on teh official tourney listings.  Regionals does have a small mistake, the dates are June 26th and 27th not March.  One of the things I'm going to do for Booster draft for both of these is if someone has an unopened tin (foof or RoA I don't care) you can bring it and put it into "the pot" instead of paying a fee to play.  You wont get the tin you bring unless you draw it out but I know that some of us have tins unopened laying around or can get a tin cheaper then the $12 fee.

I don't know the schedule yet for the tourneys. It really is going to depend on what events my group wants to play the most.  I'm sure both T1 events will be on saturday but I'm not sure what the other two events will be, or what events will happen on Friday night.

I am pretty lazy. I could tell you about all the stuff I have going on but the reality is that if I woke up before 10AM everyday and didn't waste 1-2 hours playing wii sports I would probably have everything done that I need to.

I visited with the Wolfe's on my trip to CA and they're excited for nationals. Hopefully we can caravan as many people as possible down to make it a good experience for Rob and everybody else that comes across the mountains.

We had a blast!  Jake won TWO categories!!   :o  Josh won two categories, too, but neither was Type 2!!   :o  :o

But the best moment came when Jon redeemed his 3rd place winnings ($3 Redemption cash) for one of only two Apostles booster packs I had left.  He pulled a GUARDIAN OF YOUR SOULS!!!  He had been trying to trade for one for the past four tournaments.  That was awesome!

Ben I do have one idea. First question is are you getting a job this summer? If not what if we didn't do WA state on a weekend.  Of all the people that would come to WA state if we had it, I may be one of only a couple people who have jobs.  The  rest of the players, especially my group, all are students who have hte summer off.  What if we were to do it on a Monday?  This just came to my mind and I thought it would be interesting.  I'm not saying we should run a WA state but I'm not saying we shouldn't.  A WA state would give those of us wanting to go to Nats another chance to earn RNRS points as well as giving the guys who might go with me to Nats some much needed experience. Plus it gives the NW playgroup more cards to us for deck building and bringing in newer players.
Title: Re: Northwest Tournaments 2009: almost complete!
Post by: STAMP on April 08, 2009, 02:23:36 PM
And some of us who have full-time jobs can take vacation!   :)

I'll put my vote in for a Monday tournament.
Title: Re: Northwest Tournaments 2009: almost complete!
Post by: NWJosh on April 08, 2009, 03:48:39 PM
Or what if WA state was Thursday June 25 and then Friday 26th and Saturday 27th was Regionals.  It would get us ready for the 3 day Nats schedule. :) Then Scott would only have to make one trip up to this area. Just thinking out loud.  Heck I know a few of my youth would love 3 days of redemption. Plus on Friday I don't plan on starting until evening time for the events played then so friday would be a day to relax or do whatever.  My personal preference for Friday would be us sitting down and discussion deck ideas for Nats and then building decks.  I know one of the guys who might go with me will play both T1 events and I can't build a T1 deck to save my life.

Also I just thought of this, if Gerry wanted to come across for Regionals doing a thursday WA state tourney might be a really nice bonus for him and his boys.  That way they wouldn't have to come to OR state and then back for Regionals to get all the promos but just a four day weekend or so and could get all the promos and play alot of games.
Title: Re: Northwest Tournaments 2009: almost complete!
Post by: STAMP on April 08, 2009, 04:01:12 PM
Wow!  That's actually a pretty good idea, especially here in the NW since you mentioned our most common obstacle, long trips over lots of mountains.  And it definitely would prepare us for 3 days of Nats.
Title: Re: Northwest Tournaments 2009: almost complete!
Post by: NWJosh on April 08, 2009, 04:11:26 PM
See I can have good ideas. What do you say Ben?  Think about its packs flowing down like rain, RNRS points building like towers, and Mt. Dew (not for me I can't stand it).  Could be lots of fun and I will cover the application fee for WA state if you do supplies and any extra supplies I'll probably buy from you in case I need extra the next day at Regionals.
