What a great time we had. Intense games and a huge RoAkster Draft. I thoroughly enjoy hosting for the awesome NV playgroup. As always I wish there was more time to be together for playing, trading and general goofing off.   ;D   I would like to thank Grace Church for allowing us to use the facility, we are very grateful. I would like to thank STAMP for the judging expertise, it is much appreciated. I don't believe we had nearly as many ruling questions as in the past. That shows much growth and understanding of the rules by the players have. You guys are awesome!

Susanville Local Tournament
More to be announced.

If you have any questions, just send a PM.

NNRP, send any info relating to activities and/or tournaments in your area and I will get them posted. Also, please send me a list of dates and we will see what tournaments we can get scheduled in Northern Nevada. Locals, Districts and State are all gonna be on the calendar this year. Let me hear from you guys.

Godspeed,
Mike

What categories do you think will be at the Jan tournament?  I really want to play RoA Draft.  That would be so much fun.

Cameron,

All categories are offered at District tournaments, so you will be playing RoA Booster Draft.  ;D  What I do need to know is, how many are expected to play RoA Booster Draft, so I can order supplies accordingly. Thanks.

Here we go with the triple post.   :o

11 days and counting down to the Reno, NV District Tournament. I hope to see all the regular players there and the new ones also. It is gonna be a great time.

We are beginning the planning stages for the Nevada State Tournament on the weekend of April 17-18. Wooo-hoooo. Last year was a great tournament and this year will be even better.

Do we have a schedule of events yet?  I am interested in knowing what events will be offered at what times.

Thanks!

Cameron

P.S. I sent out a email to everyone in the NV group, so I'll see what response we get.

Ok, here is one possible pairing of categories.

Friday Night - Closed Deck and T2 - 2player
Saturday Morning - Booster Draft and T2 - Multi
Saturday Afternoon - T1 - 2player and T1 - Multi

This is tentative and flexible. There is the possiblity of running 2 categories together and the other 2 one after the other, it all depends on time. Any input is welcome. I would like to make sure the categories are paired up in such a way, as to allow players the most playtime without having to make a tough decision between which one to play.

The Friday start time may be closer to 3:30 - 4:00 to accomodate a few players. I don't see this having much impact on scheduling.

Godspeed,
Mike

Many people I know want to play both T1 2player and T1 multi.  What about this?

T1 multi - Closed Deck
Booster Draft - T2 multi
T1 2player - T2 2player

This schedule idea is based around the idea that most T1 players will want to play Booster along with the T1 categories.  Just an idea.

Exactly why I ask for input. Ultimately we'll will work the schedule to get the most playtime in for all players.   ;D

Here is another idea:

T1 multi - T2 multi

Booster Draft
T1 2player
T2 2player - Closed Deck

Also, does anyone have a NJ (dom) that they could trade before the tournament starts?  The musician is looking for one, and it would be great for him if he can get NJ at the tourny.  If you do, PM me or the musician and we can try to make a deal.  He has Pentecost and 2 UPCs.

Also, do you need a laptop?  I know last time I brought mine, and I would be glad to again.  I'll make sure I have the tourny tracker ready if you want it.

Also, we got another promise of cookies. XD  Should we in addition bring $ for pizza, or should I ask everyone to bring lunch/dinner?  Also, do we need other food/drinks/water?

Thanks all for working hard to make this happen!  I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

It seems that you can bring lunch money if you want pizza, or you can pack your own lunch. There is no rule that you have to make one choice or the other.

Spy is correct. Lunch money or packing your lunch is fine. I will also have Redemption Card supplies on hand for sale as will Scott, so bring some spending money for that also.  ;D  I will have bottled water and some snacks on hand, any additional goodies are quite welcome.

@ the musician - I do have one NJ dominant that I can trade you for. We can work out details at the tournament.

@ Cameron - If you don't mind us using your laptop with tourney tracker, we would appreciate it tremendously. Your second tournament schedule looks promising also.

It is almost here.......wooo-hoooooo

Sounds good!

Also, I am in desperate need for a Trembling Demon before the tournament.  I have quite a few trading cards which I can PM if you want.  If you have one to trade, PLEASE PM me!  I would prefer to trade, but if necessary, I could buy....

Thanks,

Northern Nevada District Tournament Results
Type 2 Multi-Player
1. Mike Lasky
2. Austin Lippert
Is there something missing here?  If it was a multi-player category then there must have been at least 3 players, and so 3rd place is missing.

If there are only 2 players, then I don't think that you can officially host that event at a tournament.  Realistically it wasn't a multi-player game if there were only 2 people in it.

I don't want to nitpick rules, but is this really allowed.  Can a host allow only 2 players to complete in a "multi" event and then give prizes and RNRS points to the participants.  I have canceled an event in the past when I didn't have 3 people to play in it.  Should I do this in the future instead?

I don't think so... I wouldn't rule in favor of turning a multi-player category into a 2-player game.

I seem to recall that Bryon has canceled or delayed events as well if not enough are avaliable for MP.
2 players == 2 player game =/= multiplayer game.
Title: Re: Northern California/Northern Nevada 2008-2009 Tournaments
Post by: Bryon on January 21, 2009, 04:47:09 PM
Scott is correct.  I don't hold a multi-player event unless or until there are three players who can play.  Sometimes I used to jump into a multi-player event just so there can be a third player.  Sometimes that means playing the event after the tournament is otherwise over.

Bryon,

You have brought up a good point. Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me to cancel the event, but to run it with who was there. I'm probably in the wrong on this, so I'll check into to it.

I apologize to those affected by my error in running a multi-player category with 2 players. I talked with Rob about this and now have a crystal clear understanding that a multi-player event must have a minimum of 3 players to be run officially. In the future, if there are not enough players for a multi-player category,  it will be postponed until enough players can play the category or it will be cancelled altogether. Once again, I do apologize for the error on my part.

Mike

All tournament info has be updated and everything is greenlight GO!
Any questions, feel free to send me a PM. The NV State will be run has we have run NV tournaments in the past unless the players would like to see/need any changes. Multi-player games will require a minimum of 3 players (poking fun at myself) to be run, so if you are interested in T2 Multi, let's make sure we have at least 3 players this time.   ::)

Mike

NV and North CA players, earlier when it was announced taht Nats was in CA it was mentioned that I may be able to use my church van and meet players some where and give them rides the rest of the way to Nats.  At this point there is an okay chance I can do this but I need to know how many would want to go and how likely it is that you would go. I can't have you telling me yes you are going then the day before I leave find out you aren't going.  If I don't know some what soon who all needs rides I may not reserve teh van and just take a car with the people from here that are going with me.

No I will not be able to make it down.
Cries of anguish are heard at being deprived of a T2 Legend for the 2nd Annual NV State Tournament.   ;D   Guess we will have to settle for TJ this time.      :rollin:

Godspeed,
Mike

btw, do you think TJ will see this?

Alright everyone.....We are on the countdown to the 2nd Annual Nevada State Tournament. Woot.  :o
The RoAkster Draft has been lowered to $20.00 (that way I don't have to make change....lol)  but the draft remains the same. 94 cards for drafting, covering 14 years of Redemption history.
I look forward to seeing everyone there and hopefully some new players.

Mike

Double postage. The Nevada State is just around the corner. Are we using the same play schedule as the District? That seemed to work out quite well. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Just to organize everything (using last tourny's schedule).....

Fri Night, starting at 3:30 pm
T1 multi - T2 multi

Sat, starting at 9:00 am
Booster Draft
T1 2player
T2 2player - Closed Deck (for those who don't want to play either, like possibly me, pickup T1 games too?)

If we wanted to consolidate Saturday, we could also do something like this:

Booster Draft - T2 2player
T1 2player - Closed Deck

How does this look to everyone?

Cameron,

That looks good. Everyone gets to play what they like without much conflict between categories. We will definately play RoAkster Draft as a standalone. With such a large draft we will need more time for it and I thnk just about everyone is gonna play also. I like the idea of pairing T2 2 player and Closed Deck. Like you said, it allows those who don't want to player either to get in some pickup games.

Mike

Right now, it is a bit windy with dark clouds.  However, the weather shows possible rain right around 1. :P

Well, I'm not sure what to do.  I'll get back to ya in a few.  When do you need to know so that you can leave on time?

If it is game on, then I'll need to know by 11:30, but we will probably head over anyway at that time. If the boys don't play we will go to the church and set up early.

Mike

ok, I'll post on the weather by then.  That will give us enough time to get an idea on the weather for the rest of the day.  The weather channel shows about a 40% chance of rain, but Reno weather is so weird we might have a beautiful sunny day. :-)

UPDATE 9:11:  Windy, but no rain.  Clouds are dark, but the weather is still fine to do it.  I would wear a hoodie or long sleeves, but it is still on as of now.  I'll try to post around 11:00.

I was trying to keep track but may have missed it.  Were any demons redeemed at NV state tournament?  There weren't any in the games I played or closed deck.
