Anyone heard anything about it? Are we having one this year? Where could it be? Where do you want it to be?

It was in that general vicinity last year? I guess it would be because it would be huge compared to anywhere else though.

Typically it does although it's best if it's in an area that would be well attended and the Midwest has the greatest Redemption player population.

Seems to be some decent initial support for OH. If it ends up there I'll be able to go and bring as much of the PA group that wants to come.  (I'd offer transportation for attendees of the PA state tournament until our church van is full). Possibly do a group of vehicles if necessary and if the MD group wanted to team up with us again we could have a convoy.

He lives near (or in) Madison, WI so he's saying that because he was unable to attend MN Nats due to conflict he would be happy if he'd be able to drive/bus to Nat's in Ohio, which he would've been able to do last year if he did not have a conflict.

How big is the Ohio playgroup?

From what I understand it's not one of the bigger playgroups, but it is fairly central to many of the larger playgroups, which should lead to an overall big turnout--potentially even larger than MN this past year since it would be closer for SE players (GA, FL, TN, AL).

There are no qualifications to attend Nats whatsoever.  There are RNRS points (ranking system involving points per tournament win/place through the year) that are difficult to place in just by winning a Nationals, but otherwise there is nothing that goes on at Nats that anyone off the street couldn't be a part of, including winning the whole thing ;)

You would think Nationals would go to the biggest playgroups outside of the region that  hosted it last year.  But maybe the biggest play groups are the ones that are not very large.

When was the last time that it was in flordia?

Nationals have never been in Florida. The two closest were New Orleans (2004) and Tennessee (2012), both of which are over 9 hours away from Central Florida.

With that said, though, I have already expressed that a Florida Nationals would be rough for everyone else in the country, since we are only "centrally located" if you live on a ship. To my west is the Gulf of Mexico, to my east is the Atlantic Ocean, and to my south is the Caribbean Sea. Places like Ohio make more sense since they are bordered by several different states.

That being said, Florida is a great place to vacation, and if planned far enough in advance, and if central Florida gets a big enough group of regular players, I believe it could be doable.

So, maybe Nats in Florida in 2016 or 2017.  We'll need to get back to you on that.

This is really the catch. Rob would need to announce a Florida Nationals almost a year in advance. That would give people time to plan their vacation, if that was their choice. Flying out for a weekend to Nats in Ohio is one thing. Planning a Florida vacation is something entirely different.

So, if we can get confirmation of Nationals 2016 here in Florida soon, we could have a great turnout next summer!  ;D

Tim,

I'm not disagreeing, but we need a substantial playgroup first which is something that you and I are both working on.  If its big enough we may be able to give a years notice, but as of this month in February were not substantial enough.  We need to give it some more time so we can help determine if 2016 or 2017 is more reasonable (or if we'll even grow big enough in the first place).

What is the average turnout of players from the state hosting typically?

I was averaging about 15-20 players whenever I hosted Florida States.

That varies quite a bit I think. Last year, I'd guesstimate around 40% of the players at Nationals were from Minnesota. However, the year before that there were just a couple that were actually from New York itself (a lot were from the NE region).

Guardian,

How many Minnesota players is 40% of the players at Nationals last year?  I didn't attend last year, so I'm not up on how many Minnesota players attended Nats.

And I'm sure in NY, people in NJ, PA, and surrounding states would attend, me and my crew did when it was in NY at a previous Nationals even before that year.  I used to host in NJ all the time before moving to FL.

... but we need a substantial playgroup first ...

Steven

Steve, you were at the 2006 Nats on Long Island in NY. Fyi we were no more than half a dozen NY players when we hosted that tourney and there were a little less than 150 players who attended. When we hosted 2013 that yielded less than 80 players we were about a dozen active NY players who attended.

My point is, hosting Nats does not rely nor requires a substantial population of players from the host state.  With lots of players volunteering as judges and assistants at previous Nats, one can be assured of support as a host.  It will be a first in the history of Nats if Florida can be announced as the 2016 Nats venue.

I have myself committed my all out attendance and support for Nats 2016 in Florida especially when it will be co-hosted by two of my closest brothers in Redemption, both who came from the same regional nest as me.

"When you build it.....they will come!!!"

Roy,

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

We would still need a location that would support the needs of the event.  I have an idea or two, I'll need to do some further research in Central Florida.  If we could find a viable location, and give enough notice, maybe we could put a bid in for 2016 nationals in the next few months.

It would definitely be a first.

I think the best idea is to focus on this year because no one knows what areas will see growth/decline in the coming years. Since the last two years have been Northeast and North Central, Ohio seems like a logical choice this year, but after that I think we need to wait to see what areas see continued growth.

I do agree with you with Florida to be a successful Nationals we would almost have to bid a year in advance.

I will continue to strive to build Central Florida, and Tim I'm pretty sure is doing the same.  I'm in the process of building a playgroup in Kissimmee, as well as another playgroup in Clermont.  And I won't stop there...

Also, I will continue my search for good locations to support a Nationals in Florida, and we'll see where we are in the next few months regarding potential locations.

just as long as it's not in Disneyworld magic kingdom or else that would single-handedly be without a shadow of a doubt, the most EXPENSIVE nationals ever lol

No,

That's not a location that I would consider.

I think the best idea is to focus on this year because no one knows what areas will see growth/decline in the coming years. Since the last two years have been Northeast and North Central, Ohio seems like a logical choice this year, but after that I think we need to wait to see what areas see continued growth.

Guardian,

I'm not disagreeing with you regarding 2015 Nationals.

We would never use a theme park, but we could use something like "Mickey's Retreat," which is an off-site recreational park owned by Disney.
